Leg: Omogo Kokumin Shukusha Inn⇒Omogo Valley (Microbus)⇒Kuma Kogen (Local Bus)～Matsuyama(JR Bus)～Matsuyama Castle～Dogo Hot Spring～Matsuyama Station～Port Matsuyama→Ferry Boat to Kokura

Had breakfast at 7a.m. We asked the chef about the strange nuts Mr. Matsumoto picked up yesterday. He told us that they were chestnuts of “Aesculus.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aesculus

The chef drove us to the bus stop by his microbus. The local bus left there at 8 a.m. to Kuma where we changed buses to JR bus to Matsuyama. We arrived at Matsuyama at about noon.

We used coin lockers to put our bags, then began sightseeing in Matsuyama, after having lunch at a dice-size steak restaurant near the station.

First, we bought a day ticket for tramcar by 400 yen, then we went to Matsuyama Castle. The castle is on the small hill (132m). There are a lift and a ropeway facilities, but we walked to the castle.

It is a well-preserved castle, and beautiful. We had a nice view of Matsuyama city from the top of “Tenshukaku”or “castle tower.”

There was a corner where visitors could wear old-day armors and helmet for free of charge. Bernardo wore complete armors and helmet and he looked really nice!

After visiting Matsuyama Castle, we went to the famous “Dogo Onsen” by the tramcar.

[Dogo Spa,道後温泉、도고온천]


This hotspring is one of the oldest hotsprings in Japan. It is said to be found 3000 years ago. Many historical figuars such as Shotoku Taishi, Emperor Tenchi or Emperor Tenmu visited this spar. So, it still has the entrance for loyal family-only. We could see the loyal bathing facilities, even the toilet which loyal family members used to use.

After visiting Dogo Onsen, we also visited a nearby shrine.

Then we took a special tamcar called “Bochan Train” and headed for downtown.

We had a special dinner that night because it was the last night when Mr. Matsumoto traveled with us.

We went to a restaurant called “Uotami” and had a package deal of “eating and drinking as much as you can for 3 hours” with 2800 yen each.

We ordered as much as a dozen or more dishes, and had Kirin beer jog after jog. We all satisfied after 2 hours of eating and drinking. Thanks Bernardo, since he paid all for us.

Mr. Matsumoto’s brother drove us to Port Matsuyama, and Bernardo and I went on board that night, heading for Kokura, Kyushu. We saved a hotel fee by using a night-ferry boat, but the cabin was humid and engine noise was too laud to have a good sleep. We could barely get sleep that night.

四国・九州旅行第5日目　2010年9月21日(火)晴れ

日程：面河渓国民宿舎～面河渓(送迎バス)～久万高原(ローカル・バス)～松山(JRバス)～松山城など松山市内見物～松山港→フェリーで小倉へ

国民宿舎で7時に朝食。松本さんが前日拾った木の実の正体を国民宿舎のマスターに聞いた。栃の実だと言われて納得した。店の主人に送ってもらいバス停へ。

バスはきっかり8時半に出発。乗客は我々だけで出発したが途中の集落から数人乗車した。久万高原でJRバスに乗り換えた。

JRバスで松山へ昼ごろ到着。松本さんのお兄さんの夫婦が我々を待っていた。夕方の段取りを話しただけで別れた。

荷物をコインロッカーに預けたのち、駅前のサイコロステーキ屋で特大ステーキ定食を食べてから一日乗り放題の400円の市内電車切符を購入し、松山城前で下車し、松山城を見学。

松山城は小高い丘の132m)の上で、ちょっとしたハイキング気分。リフトやロープウェイもあったが、我々は徒歩でアプローチ。

松山城内では鎧兜をセルフサービスで着用できるコーナーがあり、ベルナルドが着用して記念撮影した。

その後、夏目漱石の「坊ちゃん」に出てくる道後温泉へ行き、温泉に入った。ここは、日本三古湯の１つとされ、聖徳太子以来多くの皇族も訪れたことを誇りとしている。また、皇族専用門や皇族専用施設もあり、現在では使われていないため、見学できるようになっている。

道後温泉のシンボルは温泉の所在を知らせたという白鷺で、白鷺の飾りが目につく。また、温泉の前には人力車が数台、営業中。

白鷺の装飾も見たのち、となりの神社を見学してから坊ちゃん列車で松山繁華街へ向かった。

松本さんを交えた三人の旅の最後の晩に、ベルナルドに回転寿司を振る舞いたいと、しばらく回転ずしを探して歩いたが、ない。やむを得ず、魚民で2800円飲み放題、食い放題コースにした。

ここで、思い切り飲んで食べたが、なんとご馳走したいと思っていたベルナルドが、むしろ感謝の意味を込めてカードで支払いたいという。その意を汲んでごちそうになった。

その後、繁華街を市電通りまで歩いてから、市電に乗って駅へ行き、松本さんの兄上夫妻の見送りで、港へ行った。港で松本さんとは別れ、小倉行きのフェリーに乗った。

船室の構造が悪く、エンジンの音がうるさい。また、蒸し暑くて寝づらい第五泊目となった。

Got up at 5:30 a.m. on the ferry. There were only 6 passengers in the room 112. Took a both at 6 a.m. Had breakfast at the lobby. Disembarked at Shimonoseki Port at 8 a.m.

We met Mr. Matsumoto at JR Shimonoseki station. Took a local train to Tokuyama. At the “green counter” at the station, Mr. Matsumoto tried to buy discount tickets by reserving “rent-a-car” at Takamatsu, but failed due to the availability of automobiles. We could not reserve any car, we had to buy tickets without any discount and more over, we missed the scheduled shinkansen train!

Anyhow, we took the next available train, which was “Kodama” from Tokuyama to Hiroshima. Changed to “Nozomi” the fastest shinkansen, to Okayama and got off there to see “Okayama Castle.”

I visited Okayama once in 1965 when I was 18 years old. It was a part of high school excursion. We visited the famous “Korakuen” garden then, but not the castle. It was under the reconstruction and it was completed just next year(1966).

We took “Marin Liner” from Okayama to Takamatsu. It was my first experience to go across “Seto Inland Sea” by railway. 44 years ago, we took “Uko Renrakusen” a kind of railway-ferry between Honshu and Shikoku.

At Takamastu, we rented a Toyota car, and headed for Mt. Tsuruki. Mr. Matsumoto began driving at 3:30 p.m. and we arrived at the inn named “LAFORET TSURUGISAN” at 6:40 p.m. The road to Mt. Tsurugi was extremely narrow and full of hairpin curves so it took more time than Mr. Matsumoto estimated.

It was “tatami” room, and clean and cosy. We changed clothes to “yukata” after taking a bath, then had a gorgous dinner with “shabushabu”. A stay with 2 meals plus a bottle of beer costed 8000 yen. We thought it was quite reasonable price.

四国・九州旅行第2日目　9月18日(土)快晴

行程：下関⇒徳山⇒広島⇒岡山⇒高松→剣山

朝5時半ごろ目が覚めた。112号室は6人ほどで、空きが目立つ。6時に朝ぶろに入った。朝飯は前日買ったおにぎりなどを食べた。予定通り8時下船。

スムーズに通関を済ませ、下関駅で松本さんと合流。下関から徳山へ鈍行。徳山でJRの駅レンタカーを手配しようとしたが、らちが明かず、予定した新幹線に乗り遅れ、割引もきかず散々な目に遭う。

新幹線を一本送らせてまず「こだま」。広島で「のぞみ」に乗り換えて岡山で下車。岡山城をタクシーで往復して見物。

その後、マリンライナーで高松へ。岡山は高校の修学旅行で来たことがある。たしか後楽園を見学したと思うがその時は岡山城は再建前だったようで、まったく記憶にない。公園の堀に青もが発生しているようで、魚が浮いて腐臭がするのは興ざめだ。

瀬戸大橋を渡るのも初めてで、昔は宇高連絡船に乗って高松から岡山へ渡った。今回は逆で岡山から高松へ渡った。

さて、高松でトヨタのレンタカーを借りた。この料金12000円はベルナルドがカードで支払い、松本さんと私がそれぞれ4000円を現金でベルナルドに支払った。

高松から剣山へ向かったが剣山への道はヘアピンカーブと隘路が続き、時間が予想以上にかかった。

宿所の「ラ・フォーレつるぎ」に着いたのは６時35分で、まず風呂に入り、食事は7時15分から一番最後になった。

ここの食事はトリ肉のだしをとった汁での豚肉のしゃぶしゃぶで大変豪華であり、ボリュームもたっぷりだった。ビールは3人で3本。この500円の追加を加えて8000円は大変「お得」だと思った。

100917 Trip to Shikoku and Kyushu The First Day 四国・九州旅行、第1日目

Trip to Shikoku & Kyushu (Climbing two mountains in Shikoku and sightseeing in Matsuyama, Hakata and Kokura)

Date: September 17 to 23 (7 days)

Partners: Bernardo (all) and Mt. Matsumoto (from 2day to 4th day)

The 1st day of the trip: Daejeon ⇒　Pusan (by KTX)　～　Shimonoseki (be ferry boat)

Taking advantage of Chusok holidays in Korea (9/21 – 9/23), I decided to go to Shikoku to climb two of 100 Best Mountains in Japan.

I have climbed 5 mountains among 100 Best Mountains in Japan this year. They are: Mt. Aso, Mt. Shibutsu, Mt. Hotaka, Mt. Fuji and Mt. Chokai and I already uploaded these hiking records in this blog.

So if I climbed these 2 mountains in Shikoku, the number would be 7 for this year. I asked Bernardo who was my best hiking partner in Korea in the past one years.

We met at Daejeon Station in the afternoon of Sep. 17, and took 2:01 KTX to Pusan. We arrived at Pusan station at about 4 pm, then we walked to the International Terminal of Pusan Harbor. I explained Bernardo about “Joseon missions to Japan” when I took a picture of him in front of the wall picture of the mission near the harbor.

The boarding process went on smoothly, and we were on board at 6:20 p.m. As soon as we put our language in our room which was just next to the public bathroom, we took the bath in the big public bathtub. Then we had cool beer at the loby.

An American boy who came to Korea as an exchange student, together with his wife, sat next to us. His name was John. They were 21 years old, yet got married in USA, and both were studying at a Korean university. How nice! They were to travel around Japan taking advantage of Japan Pass with which they can travel by Shinkansen economically. John was particularly eager to learn “Japanese” and asked me many questions, mostly greeting expressions in Japanese.

The ferry began sailing at about 10 p.m. Bernrdo took nice pictures of Pusan from the deck.

旅行タイトル：四国の日本百名山「剣山」と「石鎚山」登山、および松山・博多・小倉観光

日程：9/17(金)～9/23(木)の1週間

同行者：ベルナルド(全日程)および松本さん(2日目の下関から5日目の松山まで)

旅行第1日目：大田⇒釜山(KTX)⇒下関(関釜フェリー)

今回は韓国の１大行事(名節)である「秋夕(チュソク)日本の『お盆』に相当」を利用して主に四国を旅行した。

同行者は韓国における山の親友・メキシコ人のベルナルドだ。また、下関からは私の日本における登山の師、松本さんが同行した。

今回の主目的である、四国にそびえる日本百名山の２峰、「剣山(1955m徳島県)」と「石鎚山(1982m愛媛県)」を案内してくれる心強い先導者である。

ちなみに、今年は日本百名山のうち５峰(阿蘇山、至仏山、穂高山、富士山、鳥海山)に登っているので、今回は第６および第７峰になる。

第１日目。ベルナルドとは大田駅で合流。午後２時１分発のKTXで釜山へ向かう。釜山には午後４時到着。釜山駅から釜山国際ターミナルまでは徒歩で約20分。途中、交差点の港側の壁には通信使の絵が描かれていて、これを背景にベルナルドの最初の１枚の写真を撮った。

乗船手続きは順調に済み、６時20分から乗船開始。いつもの112号室に荷物を置いて、すぐに風呂に入った。



風呂からあがるとロビーのテレビの前の席でビールを飲んだ。その際、隣のテーブルに座った、米国から韓国へ交換留学生としてきたジョン君とその中国系の奥さんと話をした。

ジョンたちは関西、松本、東京と旅をするようだ。熱心に日本語のあいさつ言葉を学んでいた。

船は夜10時過ぎに出航。ベルナルドがすばらしい釜山の夜景を写真に収めた。
