101225 Mt. Deokyusan (1,614m), Muju, Jeonbuk 徳裕山・全北・茂朱

I experienced the coldest hike. The weatherman said it was the coldest weather in 30 years.

Sunny gave me a cellphone message, saying she felt sick and cancelled her seat. Therefore, there were 34 hikers and I was the only non-Korean member.

It was – 14℃ in Seoul, and – 12℃ in Deajeon. It was really cold. I felt pain in fingers and toes while heading toward South Gate by bicycle.

The bus left at 7 as scheduled and we arrived at Muju Skiing Resort at 8:50 a.m. We took the gondola and went up to the top of the hill in 20 minutes.

We put climbing irons at the resthouse connected the gondola station. Then began hiking toward HyangJeokBong (1614m) but it was really cold. The temprature was – 18℃, but because of the strong wind, the sensible temprature must be – 30℃.

Since it was too cold, I hesidated to take pictures at Hyangjeokbong. But in order to answer to my fellow hikers expectation, I took several pictures there. But the battery went out soon because of the low temperature.

KS suggested that I shoul put the camera in pockets in my pants. Thus I could keep the camera relatively warm. I followed his suggestion and it worked well afterwards.

When we arrived at the lodge, some members provided warm “sake” in a thermos. I got a sip and it tasted really good.

When we arriced at a wooden platform at the fork of the trail, it became noon. We discussed whether we had lunch there or not. But it was too cold to take our gloves off. So, for the first time in my 225 time hikes with AhToSan, we gave up eating lunch.

We hurried to go down from the mountain and had lunch afterward.

When we came down to the exit, it was – 7℃ there. I felt much warmer and felt much better.

Anyhow, I was the last person to reach at our bus. As soon as I arrived at the bus, the driver started the engine of the bus.

We had “tippuri” of the hot soup called “Yukkejag.” We finished the party within 15 minutes and hurried back to Daejeon. We came back to the South Gate at 4:15 and I came home at 5 p.m.

It was my last hike in the year 2010. It was my 60th hike of the year, and my 225th hike as AhToSan regular hike.

韓半島は30年ぶりという寒波に見舞われた。明け方、サニーからケータイメールで、体の具合が悪いのでキャンセルしてくれと入った。アトサン参加者数はこれで34人。

朝の気温はソウル-14℃、大田-12℃。自転車で南門へ行くまでに手と足の指が寒さでしびれる。

バスは時間通り7時に出発。途中15分休憩を入れても8時50分に茂朱リゾートへ到着。ゴンドラに乗って一気に頂上付近まで上がるがとにかく寒い。

レストハウスでアイゼンを装着、最後のチョンジョンやウポと同行。最初の峰(香積峰)までが強風と低温で、参った。気温は-18℃で、体感温度はおそらく-30℃。

あまりにも寒いので香積峰での写真撮影を躊躇したが、思い切って写して良かった。途中の樹氷の美しさも、写真を撮るのは難しい。しかもバッテリーが切れた。わずか25枚しかとれていなかった。



待避所に着いてから予備のカメラを出して使った。こちらは写し終えるとすぐにポケットにしまった。これだと体温で電池が温まり、50枚以上撮ってもバッテリー切れにはならなかった。



待避所ではあるメンバーが日本酒の熱燗を保温器に入れて持参し、皆に振る舞った。私も1杯もらったが、実にありがたかった。



待避所を過ぎて、最後の分かれ道で12時になり昼食にしようとしたが、寒くて素手にはなれない。昼食をあきらめてマッコリを1本だけ提供した。

この後、渓谷に沿って下った。松の巨木と他の木がからまっている地点ぐらいから気温があがり、そこからさらに下った平地の気温は-7℃だったが、この気温がとても暖かく感じた。



バスに到着したのは私が最後だった。バスで少し移動して瀑布のところであつあつのユッケジャンのティップリで遅い昼食を食べた。大田へ戻ったのは午後4時5分。南門には4:15、ワンルームには5時に戻った。



今回は今年ちょうど目標の60回目の登山。アトサンはトータルで225回目。

101218 Mt. Chilgapsan/ceremony/year-end party、七甲山、終山祭、総会、忘年会

Date: Dec. 18 (Sat) 2010 Fine.

Place: Chilgapsan (561m), Cheongyang, ChungNam Province

Course: Lake Cheonjang – Mt. Chilgapsan – Janggoksa Temple : 8 km (4.5-hour hike)

Partners: 45 members (7 foreingers including myself, from 7 different countries)

We had “Thanking safe hiking to God” ceremony during the hike and General meeting of AhToSan and Year End Party after the meeting at a restaurant at the foot of Mt. Chilgapsan.

AhToSan Hiking Club was established in September 2004. I joined this hiking club in November 2004.

I am one of the most frequent hikers among more than 1000 members. It was my 224th regular hike with this club members.

We had snowfall at Daejeon during the previous night. So the whole town was covered with snow.

I arrived at the South Gate bus stop at 8:07 a.m. Just then Chris, an American young boy (25 years old) came to see us.

I met Chris at the ferry boat which connects Busan and Shimonoseki several months ago. Recently he gave me an e-mail written in Hangul.

I introduced AhToSan hiking club to him and he came to join the hike from Seoul that morning.

I have never seen an American who has mastered Korean language so well so that he can send e-mail by Hangul.

Other non-Korean hikers were: Roxana from Rumania, Soumen from India, Bernardo from Mexico, Tracey from Australia, Sunny from China and George from Japan.

The bus left 8:40 at the South Gate and arrived at Lake Cheonjang at 10 a.m.

We took a group picture in front of the huge suspension bridge called “Cheonjangho Chulleong Bridge” and then began hiking.

Acrossing the bridge there were a huge monuments of a dragon and a tiger. There was the entrance of the trail near the monuments. It was a well facilitated wooden steps, and we came to the ridge trail at the end of the steps.

The trail was called “Cheonjanglo” or “Lake Trail” and it was frozen just as Juli was afraid of. It was difficult to walk on the frozen trail without climbing irons.

Bernardo lended his irons to Heesun and I also lended one to Tracey. I carried extra stocks that day, so I lended one to Heesun and the other to Roxana.

At around 11 a.m., Chinhan Saram began providing Makgeolli, so I decided to have “Suzuki Time” and began providing grape and grape tomatoes, as well as chestnut makgeolli. They all liked them and my bag became much lighter.

After “Suzuki Time” Bernardo escorted Heesun. They walked as the last hikers. The top group arrived at the top of the mountain before noon.

They decollated “ceremony alter” with abundance of foods such as pork, dry fish, many kinds of fruits, and rice cake. Then liked a rope with Korean national flag and the flag of AhToSan and began the ceremony.

San-salang, in charge of the general affair, read the statement of ceremony, then the president of the club read the “thanking statement” to the mountain god. Then they began formal bowing called “cheol” after putting 10,000 won bills under the pork. (Sometimes, they use the whole head of pig in stead of pork. But it is considerable expensive. So AhToSan use boild pork in stead of the head of the pig. We can eat the boild pork after the ceremony.)

One after another, they put the bills, and did “cheol.” Among foreigners, Chris, the big American boy and Sunny, also a tall Chinese lady, followed the Koreans who did “cheol”.

After the ceremony, we enjoyed gorjeous lunch and then we began deceinding the mountain.

There was a beautiful temple named “Janggoksa” at the foot of the mountain. The Chinese characters of the temple is exactly the same as one in Kamakura. It is called “Hasedera” in Japanese, though.

After seeing the temple we walked to the reataurant where we had general meeting of AhToSan and Year End party afterwards.

During the general meeting, they introduced the old and new stuff members. I was introduced as “consultant” of the boad meeting. I was also awarded as one of the best hikers for the year among AhToSan members.

After having delicious food, we began “karaoke” party. Among foreingers, Sunny sang an English song, followed by Bernardo who sang “Besame mucho” in Spanish. I also sang “Blue Light Yokohama” and most of Koreans liked this song very much.

The party was over at around 6:30 and we came back to Expo Sough Gate in Daejeon at around 8 p.m. It was my 59th hike for this year, and 224th hike with AhToSan in total.

今回の登山は2010年を総括する「終山祭」と、登山後に忘年会を行う特別な登山だ。

アトサン山岳会は2004年9月に結成され、満6年が経った。会長も初代から数えて来年は7代目になる。これらのセルモニーも忘年会の中で行われる。

私はアトサン結成2か月後に初めて参加以来、定期登山だけでも224回を数え、1000人を超える会員の中でも1、２を争う回数である。

さて、この日は、前夜の雪で大田は一面雪景色。しかし、道は凍っているが、さほど寒くは感じない。

早めの8時7分にエクスポ南門のバス停車位置に到着すると、ちょうどクリスが来た所だった。彼はこの朝、ソウルを朝早くKTXで出発し、大田で地下鉄に乗り換え、政府庁舎前駅で下車してタクシーで駆けつけたわけだ。

バスは8時15分に到着。今回は当然満席なので、荷物はバスの腹に入れた。クリスはベルナルドよりさらに背が高い大男だったが、私の隣に座った。

彼はわずか2年で韓国語を自由自在に駆使し、ハングルでメールまでできるとは本当にたいしたものだ。まだ25歳だというからすごい。

今回は他の外国人たちも遅刻せず乗車した。外国人たちは一人も重複せず7か国から7人(クリス：米国、ロクサナ：ルーマニア、ソーメン：インド、ベルナルド：メキシコ、トレイシー：豪州、サニー：中国、私：日本)。

バスは予定より10分遅れて8時40分に出発。途中一回休憩して出発地点の天長湖(천장호)には10時に到着した。

橋を渡ると迫力のある虎と、おなじみの龍のモニュメントがあり、そこが登山路の入り口で、整備された木の階段を上って尾根伝いに七甲山へ向かった。

この尾根伝いの登山路は天長路(湖水路)と言うようだ。道はなだらかな上り下りで続くが、ジュリが恐れたとおり、昨日の雪が凍っていて、アイゼンがないとむずかしい。

ベルナルドは自分のアイゼンをヒソンに貸与。私も片方をトレイシーに貸した。また予備のスティックも1本はヒソン、もう1本はロクサナに貸した。

登山を始めて約1時間後のやや広い登山路で「スズキタイム」。チンハンサラムが先にマッコリを振る舞っているところに私もリュックを下ろしてブドウとミニトマトと栗マッコリを振る舞った。1回ですべてなくなり、リュックが軽くなった。

このあとベルナルドはヒソンをエスコートして最後尾として歩いた。先頭は12時前に七甲山山頂に到着、終山祭を始めていた。

例によって万ウォン札をそなえてチョルをする会員が続出。外国人の間では、米国人のクリスと中国人のサニーがチョルをした。

終山祭が終わるとお供えのごちそう(スユク・カレトック・ナムル等)を皆で食べたが、このごちそうがあることをすっかり忘れていた。すなわち弁当は不要ということだ。

下りもなだらかな上り下りを繰り返す長谷寺(チャンコクサ)へ下りるコースで何カ所かアイゼンがあったほうがいいという場所があったが、なくても気を付けて下りれば大丈夫といった程度だった。



長谷寺は大きな寺ではないが、新羅の文聖王12年(850年)普照法師 により創建されたものと伝えられ、鎌倉の長谷寺(寺伝によれば736年)の約1世紀後に建立されたものらしい。

こじんまりとしてよくまとまっている寺で、信心深い会員は本堂に上がって本尊を礼拝した。また、年配の写真家、オンセミロ(온세미로)は特に思い入れが強く、写真と共に長谷寺の解説もアップロードした。

ゴールの七甲山谷(チルカプサンゴル)食堂には午後2時40分に到着。予定通り3時から総会が始まった。

総会で新旧のスタッフが紹介され、年間優秀会員の表彰があり、私も賞(5万ウォンの商品券)をもらった。

いつもの通り、これまでの登山の記念写真のスライドショーがあり、4時から会食がスタート。メニューは山の幸海の幸がいっぱいですばらしかったが、飲み物はマッコリと焼酎のみでビールがなかったのがちょっと残念。

5時半ごろからカラオケが始まり、私も七甲山をリクエストしたが、すぐこの歌の得意な会員(ヨレジとチルカプサン)にマイクを奪われた。

外国人ではサニーが英語の歌を歌って喝采を浴び、その後ベルナルドが「ベッサメムーチョ」をスペイン語で歌って大うけした。私も年配の会員のリクエストで「ブルーライトヨコハマ」をうたって意外と受けた。

パーティは6時半ごろお開きになり、大田へ向かって帰路に着いた。南門には8時に到着した。今回は今年59回目、アトサンはトータル224回目。

101211 MiRokSan (弥勒山미록산461m), Tongyong (統営통영), GyongNam(慶南경남)

Date: Dec. 11 (Sat) 2010 Fine.

Place: Miroksan (461m), Tongyong, GyongNam Province

Course: Sanyangeup Office – (Bush walking) –Mireuksan (Yonghwasan) – Mirae Pass – Observaion Deck on the Rock --- Military Training Place: 10 km (5-hour hike)

Partners: 25 members (7 foreingers including myself)

Destination was in Mireukdo island near Tongyong. Island hiking is usually easy and nice. So many Stammtish members (foreigners) joined this hike.

The hiking place is close to Geojedo, the 2nd largest island in the south east of Korean Peninsula. Yet the highway connects between Daejeon and Tongyong, so it usually takes about 3 hours from Daejeon. We left South Gate at 7 a.m., and arrived at the starting point at 10:30.

We started hiking with full of energy, yet we lost the way, soon. We had to “bush-walking” until we reached at the regular trail on the ridge for about 1 hour.

Alan seemed very tired while we were “bush-walking,” so I walked behind him which means the last of the party. (He says he was too hot because he wore too heavily.)

When they reached at the ridge, they all waited for us, and then they began “Alan Call” shouting “Alan, Alan, Alan!”

When we joined them, we had “Suzuki Time,” short break with fruits and “makgeoli.”

Alan seemed “refreshed” and began walking lively. He even climbed on the rock on the ridge.

We had lunch along the trail where we could have nice view of Tongyong and Mt. Mireuk. Tracey had spaghetti, and a male member cooked “Jajamen.” Jajamen tasted good. Another member of Ahtosan cooked ramen, which was also good.

After lunch, we passed several nice viewing points, and reached at the top of Mt. Mireuk at around 1:30 p.m.

Since there was a rope way, there were many sightseers at the ovbersation deck on the rock. We had really good views of Tongyong, and a lot of islands in the South Sea.

After the ovservation deck, it was an easy download, and we arrived at the final destination of military ground at 3 p.m.

We had “sashimi” party at a sashimi restaurant at Tongyong. Some foreingers did not eat much sashimi, yet, all Korean hikers enjoyed eating sashimi very much.

We came back to Daejoen at 8 p.m.

My good Amerikan friend and senior hiker, Alan England described this hike as below:

Because it was advertised as an easy hike I was invited back to join the hiking group called AhToSan which is short for “Let’s go to the mountains on Saturday” by my hiking friend George Suzuki. I went on a number of hikes some years ago before they decided I was too old. Some of the other regular Taejonhikers went also, and somewhat surprising, all five were women. As before, we took a chartered bus for this trip. MiReukSan is on a small island named TongYoungDo in the sea on the south side of Korea called the NamHae (which means south sea). MiReuk is a name from the Buddhist tradition. The Buddha of the future is called MiReukBul here and also Maitreya. There was a bus ride of about 3 hours south and eastward to the mountain where the weather was considerably warmer than Daejeon. I had been to the next island called GeoJeDo several times. MiReukSan was only 461 m high but there was a long distance up from the trailhead. We hiked up mostly cross country until we reached a trail on the ridge line. We arrived at the peak after about two hours to find an enormous multi-level wooden platform with stairs and numerous lookout points to view the town below and the south sea region. On arriving at the platform the first thing I noticed was a big crowd of people and the second was a woman in high heels who had obviously not climbed a trail to this point. I looked around and found a cable car terminus at a lower part of the wooden platform. These people had all taken the easy way up. The views were wonderful. We started down and reached our bus in a total hiking time of about 5 hours. On the way down we came across some soldiers on maneuver, who completely ignored us. - (unquote)

It was my 58th hike for this year and 223rd hike with AhToSan as the total number.

日時：2010年12月11日(土) 晴れ。

登山場所：慶南・統営(トンヨン통영)の弥勒山[ミルクサン미륵산)

登山コース: 山陽邑（サンヤンウプ）事務所-(ヤブコギ)-弥勒山（ミルクサン미륵산/龍華山ヨンハサン용화산）-未来峠-岩展望台-軍部隊警戒所(5時間)

同行者：約25名(外国人は私を含め7人)

登山地は慶南の統営(トンヨン통영)の島、弥勒島(ミルクド)だ。島の登山は比較的容易なので、スタムティッシュに集う外国人らが大勢参加した。

場所は巨済島(コジェド)の近くなので韓半島の南東で遠いわけだが、高速道路を使うためさほど時間はかからない。したがって、通常の7時に南門を出発、登山地には予定より30分遅れて10時半に到着した。

今回の参加人数は外国人たちを含めて25人と少ないながらも元気に出発したが、すぐに道がわからなくなり、軽い「やぶこぎ」を余儀なくされた。

出発してから1時間ほどの「やぶこき」だったが、アランがすっかり疲れてしまった。私はアランにつきあってしんがりを担当。

稜線の通常の登山路に出たアトサンの会員たちは全員、アランの到着を待っていて、最後は「アラン！アラン！」とアランコール。

ここで小休止のスズキタイム。青葡萄とパングルトマト、および定番の栗マッコリ2本を提供し、すべて消費し、荷物が軽くなった。

アランは稜線にでるとすっかり元気を回復。最初の岩場ではかなり無理して岩の上に登ってきた。

その後、尾根伝いを順調に進み、弥勒山が良く見える稜線で昼食にした。(12:30-13:00)。食事はアランとトレイシーとヒソンが並んで食べ、後の外国人たちは韓国人のトッチャリの周りでたべた。変わったところではトレイシーのスパゲティ。いつも最後尾を歩くカップルの男性が黒いジャジャーメンを作ったのがうまかった。また、チョムワのラーメンもごちそうになった。

食後は見晴らしの良い岩場をいくつか過ぎ、弥勒山山頂へ出た。ここはロープウェイを利用してくる一般客でごったがえしていたが、それでも石標はワンチャンスを利用してうまく撮ってもらった。

山頂からみる統営の港や南海の島々はとてもよい。午前中は黄砂の影響か、風景がややボケていたが午後はクリアな青空が広がった。

弥勒山を過ぎるとあとはひたすら下り坂。それも急な坂は最初だけで、なだらかな下り坂が続く。また、前回同様、杉の林がなかなかすばらしい。

ハイキングはかなり大きなロープウェーの下を歩いて、突然道路に出て終わった。登山路を下りた道路には「살기 좋은 영운리」という石標がある道路に面した芝生の墓では20歳くらいの若い徴兵兵士たちが訓練をしていた。

北朝鮮兵士に見立てた人形がおもしろかった。手りゅう弾の投擲の訓練でもしたのだろうか、土が変色していた。

ハイキング終了は3時半だったからちょうど5時間のハイキングだった。このあとバスで港へ移動。3時45分には食堂に着いた。

約１時間の刺身会食のティップリは豪華だが、ジュリが食べられるものがほとんどないのは気の毒だった。私はどれもみなおいしくて思いっきり食べたが、それでも刺身は半分以上残り、チョムワが自分たちのテーブルへ持って行った。

ルーマニア人のロクサナはよくチャレンジしてなんでも食べたがそれにしても消費量は少なかった。中国人の孫はあまり食べなかった。

ジュリは海産物の生ものはだめだが焼酎はいけるくちで、人気者になった。5時少し前に会食を終え、港で少し写真と撮ってから帰路に着いた。

帰りはかなり飛ばしたようで、大田には8時に到着した。今回は今年58回目で私のアトサン参加は223回目。
