[Stone Monument on which derivation of "Mannal Pass" is written, 「
When AhToSan went to climb Mt. Muhak on April 13, we got off at“Mannal Pass”in Masan city. “Mannal” in Korean means “to meet” and I saw a big stone monument by the road on which the derivation of “Mannal Pass” was written.

After coming back from the hike, I found the website which introduce the origin of this story as below. http://www.do-learn.co.kr/popup/manner/chusuk/chusuk_05_01.asp
You can even see “You Tube” as below.

There is a pass called “Mannal Pass” in a small mountain in Masan city, GyeongNam Province.
People living this area, visit this “Mannal Pass” if they have anyone whom they wish to see, on the 17th day of the 8 th month in lunar calendar.

Then those people having the same idea, get together at this pass on the day, as a result, they could see each other, even if they do not have particular meeting promise each other.
These days, Masan city government organize “Festival of Meeting” on the 17th day of the 8th month in lunar calendar every year, wishing for the peace and abundance for the citizens of the city, and at the same time, they demonstrate traditional cultural events to attract many sightseers.
The old story goes this way; In old days, a daughter of a poor family in the village of Masan, was sent to a man as a wife in another village which was far away. The wife could not get any child and had a hard life under the rule of mother-in-law. Later, even the husband passed away, and her life became even harder than before.
She wanted to see her own mother and her younger sister and one day she went to this “Mannal Pass.” Her own mother and her younger sister had the same idea, and they went to this pass, too. Then they could see each other, and cried with pleasure. That day was, of course, the 17th day of the 8th month of the year in lunar calendar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
