I got up at 4 a.m. When I went out to see the Oze Field before the sunrise, I happened to see Mr. Iwami whom I drank with last evening. He was from Fukushima with a couple of his friends. I told him that I would visit my relatives in Fukushima after this trip.

Oze Field before the sunrise was fantastic. It was a fine day and I could see Mt. Shibutsu across the field over the morning fog.
The breakfast time was at 6 a.m. It tasted very good, so that I had another helping of rice.

They also prepared lunch box with two rice ball. It cost 800 yen. I thought it was a bit expensive considering the amount and quality, but I could not help it. It was above 1400 m, altitude.

I went to Hinoemata Lodge to see Mr. Mano. He came out just at 6:30 a.m., but he decleared that he would not climb Mt. Shibutsu. It was too tight schedule for him to climb Mt. Shibutsu and come down to Hatomachi Pass by 2:30 p.m.

So, I decided to climb Mt. Shibutsu alone. I walked with Mr. Mano until near Ryugu Lodge. Then I said good bye and hurried to Mt. Shibutsu.
I overpassed the mother and her daughter whom I saw the previous day. After taking their pictures, I gave my email addresss, but they did not give me an email. So I could not sent them the pictures.

I enjoyed seeing a lot of alpine flora, esp. Drosera rotundifolia (the common sundew or round-leaved sundew), a carnivorous plant.

At the same place, I saw a small mother duck having really little ducklings in the pond. They were really cute!

I arrived at Yamanohana Lodge at 8:30 a.m. So I walked across the Oze Field (about 6 km) for 2 hours.
I could use the free toilet at Yamanohana Lodge. I bought a small pack of milk with 200 yen there. After a short break, I began climbing Mt. Shibutsu.

I took this route with my highschol friend about 30 years ago. So I tried to recall my memory about him and the hike, but I remembered only a little.

From the middle to the top of Mt. Shibutsu, it was consisted by special rock called “Serpentinite.” It was difficult to glow big trees on these rocks, so the big tree area stopped at the middle of the mountain. These rocks were also slipperly so I had to climb carefully.

I could see Oze Field and Mt. Hiuchigatake clearly unitl the middle of the mountain. Then it became cloudy, or I came into the cloud. I arrived at the top of Mt. Shibutsu before noon, yet I could not see Oze Field, or mountains around the field there.

So, I did not stop at the top of Mt. Shibutsu and I continued to hike along the ridge. I arrived at another peak, called Mt. Shoshibutsu at noon. Yet, I did not skip lunch and hurried to the destination.

I came down to Hatomachi Pass at 1:10, more than 1 hour before the bus left. I ate my lunch quickly before I arrived at the destination. But I could not see Mr. Mano there.

Later he told me that he arrived there before noon, and took a good rest with bath at one of the lodges there.
I was satisfied with my 6.5 hour hike to Mt. Shibutsu. Mt. Mano and I went to Tokura together, but we took buses from there to Tokyo, because he went to Tokyo station while I went to Shinjuku.
I arrived at Shinjuku station at 7:30, and using Shinjuku Line, I came back to Ofuna at 8:35 p.m.
It was my 40th hike for this year.

朝4時起き。食事前に外へ出ると昨夜いっしょに盛り上がった岩見さんから挨拶された。彼は福島から仲間数人と尾瀬に来た、やや年上のハイカーだ。
尾瀬ヶ原には朝霧がたちこめてファンタスティック。また、山小屋の前の庭にはきれいなタカネバラが咲いていた。

食事は6時からでついついお代わりをしてしまう。弁当は白米のおにぎり2個。これで800円はHighway robbery!”だと思うが、まあ、山小屋の営業費用を考えれば600円の500cc缶ビール、800円の生ビールともども仕方ないか。
さて、6:30に桧枝岐小屋で真野さんと合流。しかし、会うなり真野さんは至仏山に登るのはあきらめると言う。彼は昨日の昼食の御礼か、食べかけのハムとゴマ豆腐を私にくれた。これはありがたくもらった。

真野さんとは竜宮小屋の前で別れ、尾瀬ヶ原を急いで進んだ。竜宮と牛首の間で昨日の母娘二人連れに追いつき、写真を撮って私のメールアドレスを渡した。

途中、様々な高山植物の写真を撮りながら進んだが、なかでも食虫植物のモウセンゴケは我ながらよく撮れた。また、この付近の池塘では小型のカモが生まれたばかりに見える雛を連れているのを見つけた。

さて、山の鼻には8時半に到着。見晴から竜宮小屋を経由して山の鼻までの約6kmを2時間で歩いたことになる。
山の鼻小屋はトイレが無料できれいだ。全くお金を払わないのは気が引けて、牛乳1パック200円を買って飲んだ。ここまでちょうど1万歩。
山の鼻から至仏に登るのも30年ぶりだろうか。樹林帯を過ぎると滑りやすい蛇紋岩で歩きにくい。今回は抜かされることはなく5パーティほど追い抜いて進んだ。山腹から頂上にかけては高山植物の宝庫である。また、振り向けば尾瀬ヶ原の向こうに燧ケ岳が見える。

至仏頂上が近づくにつれ雲が出て来て、頂上は展望なし。また多くの登山者でごったがえしていた。頂上の石標では、若者のグループの写真を3台のカメラで撮ってあげた。また、私のデジカメのシャッターも押してもらった。

食事をしているパーティも多かったが、ここも俎嵓手前のケルン部分と同様、たいへんな虫の数。食事はしないで先に進み、小至仏山頂に12時に到着した。ここでも食事はせず、下山を急いた。

頂上からやや下がったお花畑付近から雲が晴れ、尾瀬ヶ原も、鳩待ち峠もよく見えた。オブチ沢では飲み水を補給した。鳩待ち峠まであと1km地点で握り飯を出して食べた。

鳩待峠には集合時間1時間前の1:10に着いた。いつもの休憩所に入り500cc500円の一番搾りを買い、真野さんにもらったハムをつまみにして飲んだ。

真野さんは昼前に峠に着き、風呂のある山小屋の部屋を1500円で借りて休憩していたと言う。
戸倉へのバスは2時15分には出発し、戸倉で方面別に分かれて大型バスに乗った。真野さんは東京駅なので111号、私は新宿なので112号。
帰路は以前と同様、沼田の土産物屋で休憩。さくらんぼやバームクーヘンの試食をして、立派なきゅうり4本を100円で購入した。
その後、雷鳴・稲妻・夕立もなんのその、一路池袋・新宿へ。都心が近づくにつれ快晴となり、雨の心配はまったくなかった。
新宿駅には7時半到着。7:45の湘南新宿ライン逗子行きで大船には8:35頃到着した。
今回の登山は今年40回目の登山となる。
