Destination (mountain): Mt. Chokai (the 2nd day of the hike)
Hiking course: Omuro (Lodge) – Shichikosan (2,229m) – Gairinzan (Somma) – Shimekake – Lake Chokai
– Saino-kawara – Hokotate (8 km, 4.5 hours)

Some of the group from Akita got up at 3 a.m. and went out. I got up at 5 a.m. and went in front of the lodge. Then a cameraman shout “Oh, Brocken Spectre!”I saw the phenominum and took the picture. This is the 2nd time I witnessed this henomenon.

Mr. Matsumoto and I had breakfast at 6 a.m. The alone-hiker woman from Mitaka started hiking without breakfast. We left the lodge soon after the breakfast.
[Alpine flora "Iwagikyou"高山植物「イワギキョウ」고산식물 이와기교우]We turned right, just the opposite direction of Shinzan. We climbed Shichikosan first. It was the peak of Chokaisan before Shinzan appeared. Then we walked along the ridge of the somma (Gairinzan). We could see Senjadani Valley where we walked the previous day.

We came down to Shimekake at 8 a.m. Then we walked around Hachozaka and came to the lake side of Lake Chokai.
[Alpine flora, "Tsugazakura" ツガザクラ(栂桜)、고산식물 쓰가자크라]When we had a short break, it began to rain a little bit. So we hurried to Saino-kawara. Before arriving Saino-kawara, we found ourselves in the middle of alpine flora field. It was just beautiful.
When we came down to Saino-kawara from Lake Chokai, there was still a lot of snow. I put the last can of beer in the stream and we drank the last beer.
[Snow remained in the valley of Sai, 賽の河原の残雪、사이 강변의 잔설]From Saino-kawara to Hokotate, it was a gentle slope of the trail. We could come down much faster than the day before.
We came down to the Hokotate bus stop at 11 a.m. We had lunch there and took 12:55 bus to Sakata.

Kikko, my wife invited Mr. Matsumoto for her private party at an Italian restaurant named “Alcheccano” http://www.ques.co.jp/alchecciano/

It was a family party for the Satos, the family of my wife’s mother, her brother and sister-in-law, and her elder sister.
We enjoyed Italian food with beer and wine. Mr. Matsumoto stayed at “Rout-in Hotel” in Tsuruoka. I stayed at her mother’s home in Hodashi, Tsuruoka.

登山コース：頂上御室～七高山～外輪山コース～七五三掛～鳥海湖～賽の河原～鉾立

[「ティップリ」は高級イタリアンレストラン「アル・ケチャーノ」で、佐藤家と合流]
朝3時ごろから秋田の団体が起きて外出(?)。自分は5時ごろ起きて外へ出てみた。すると小屋の前でカメラを構えていた男が「ブロッケン現象だ！」と騒ぎだした。彼のカメラの方向を見ると確かにブロッケン現象が見えた。

朝、6時から朝食。三鷹の女性は朝食を食べないで出発したようだった。我々も朝食後すぐに出発。
[Alpine flora "Iwabukuro", 高山植物イワブクロ、고산식물 이와부쿠로]前日、新山に登った時の雪渓の手前を右折。まず、七高山に登ってから外輪山コースをまわって七五三掛へ下った。外輪山コースは前日歩いた千蛇谷コースの雪渓を見下ろしながらなので景観が良い。

[Looking down the Senjadani Valley, 千蛇谷を見下ろす、센자다니를 내려다보다]七五三掛には8時ごろ到着した。七五三掛から八丁坂下までは往路と同じコースだが、八丁坂下からは山を左手に巻いて鳥海湖へ出た。
[Alpine flora "Iwakagami"イワカガミ(岩鏡),고산식물 이와카가미]鳥海湖で休憩中に霧雨が降ってきたので、先を急いだ。長坂道へ行く登山路を上がったところもきれいなお花畑で、その先から賽の河原へ降りたが、そこの雪渓はじつに立派だった。そこで最後のビールを冷やして飲んだ。

[Snow remained in the valley of Sai, 賽の河原の残雪、사이 강변의 잔설]賽の河原から鉾立まではたんたんとした石畳で、鉾立駐車場には11時に到着。そこの食堂で松本さんに鳥海ラーメンをごちそうになった。

酒田から松本さんはJRで鶴岡へ(480円)、私はバスで湯ノ沢口で下車(780円)だった。その後、松本さんは鶴岡発17:05のバスで湯ノ沢口へ。喜久子が佐藤家の車で待機しており、我々はイタリアンレストラン「アル・ケッチャーノ」http://www.ques.co.jp/alchecciano/での妻の実家、佐藤家の会食に合流した。
アル・ケッチャーノには5時40分に到着したが、レストランは6時に開業。それまで入店できず外で待機した。
[[A family party at Italian Restaurant "Alchecciano" イタリアン・レストラン「アルケッチャーノ」にて、이탈리안·레스토랑 「아루켓챠노」에서]レストランではコース料理のほか、飲み物は生ビールにしたが、一夫にいさんが冷たい焼酎を用意し、ビールにまぜて「ソメク」(ビールと焼酎のちゃんぽんを韓国語で「ソメク」と言う)を作ったのには驚いた。こうすればワインを注文する必要はなく、経済的ではある。
会食後、喜久子は松本さんを車でルートインホテルへ送り、文下の妻の実家に帰って寝たのは9時だった。
