Partners for Plughole Caving: 11 people incluing a family of 5 from USA (New Mexco)
My son reserved 3 tickets (2 for River, and 1 for Plughole), yet since K wanted to join us, my son called the caving agent and succeeded to add one more tichet for River.
I thought K was realy lucky. When my son brought me to this cave for the 1st time in 2001, all tickets had been sold out and we went back 175 km back to Sydney without seeing any cave.
It was my 3rd experience to see the caves (all different caves) and my first experience of “sport-caving.”
It’s a long drive from Sydney (175 km West of Sydey) and we stopped at the sightseeing spot for Three Sisters on the way to the caves.
It was my first time to see Three Sisters having clouds in the lower part. They looked fantastic.
We had lunch (“foot-sandwitches” bought at “the subway.”
My son reserved tickets for the cavings, but he was not sure the start time of caving tours. It could be 1 p.m. or 2 p.m.

It was 12:30 when we realized this fact. So my son hurried to the caves running the highest speed available.

We arrived at the caves at 13:30, but thank God, it was 2 pm for Plunghole and 2:15 pm for River.

My son and his son stayed in the car and waited for the rest of the people. It began to rain.

I took part of “River” in 2005, but “Plughoe” was my first experience.

First we experienced the vertical going down to the earth by using ropes and harnesses.
Then the guide opened the lock of the gate into the narrow holes.

It was a combination of narrow pathes and spacious domes.

Most interesting part was the place for prayers. Cavers could go through only when they posed “Prayers” pose, then go through from feet into the holes.

When we had difficulties in our lives, we need to become humble and pray for God, I thought.
It took 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the tour.
Since I have not done any caving in the past 3 years, I felt very excited and remembered what I learned through cavings with Alan in Korea.
We all finished caving by 4:30 pm, and went back to Sydney. It was another 175 km drive for my son. He took us to a Vietnam restaurant.

My grandson got tired of riding a car (or being trapped in a car) for such a long time. Then he asked my son (Daddy, how many minutes does it take to get there?)

Then my son answered, “Yes, Noah. It will take 30 minutes to get there.” Then my grandson asks, “Daddy, how many seconds?” Then my son answers “180 seconds.”
My grandson never got tired of asking such questions, and my son never ignore his son’s questions, and ansered each question patiently. I was deeply moved by my son’s behaviors. He seems to have demonstrated how I should react to people.
My son patiently waited for 2 hours in his car while we were enjoying ourselves for caving tours. He drove more than 300 km for a round trip to Jenolan Caves. Yet he drove to K’s hotel as well as the round trip to NBL for two guests, although he had his own business at home.
It looked like a perfect altruism which I must follow his way. He went to bed after 11 p.m. after doing all his jobs.

同行者：「リバーコース」(洞窟内に川がある)参加者は妻の3人の友人とK青年、「プラグホールコース」は私の他は11名(10歳の男子が最年少で私はたぶん最年長)
洞窟観光のチケットは「リバー」を3枚と「プラグイン・ホール」を1枚予約していた。当初の予定では「リバー」は、息子とHさん及びSさん、「ブラグイン・ホール」は私の分であったが、Mさんがリバーを希望し、息子の分をそれにあてた。
また、妻が機内で知り合ったK青年も洞窟観光の「リバー」を希望したので、前日、息子が予約しようとしたが5時過ぎていたため、不可。
しかし、要件と連絡番号を受付の留守録に入れておいたため、K青年をピックアップしてブルーマウンテンへ行く途上、洞窟観光の受付から電話があり、話した結果、「リバー」をもう一枚買うことができた。
この日は薄曇りで靄が立ち込め、スリーシスターズは雲の上に浮かび、幻想的だった。
K青年をピックアップしてから市内のサブウェイで購入した７ドルの『フットサンドイッチ』を食べている時、Sさんが洞窟ツアーは1時からスタートではないかと言いだし、息子が2時からのツアーに予約したはずだが自信がないと言い出し、急きょ、洞窟に急ぐことにした。

しかし、スリーシスターズからジェノラン洞窟までは60km以上あるようで、12時半ごろ出発したのではどう急いでも間に合わない。

息子は制限速度一杯の速度で急いだが、洞窟についた時は1時半をすぎてしまった。
不安な気持ちで受付に行くと、私のツアーは2時からで、「リバー」は2時15分からだった。
小雨が降りだす中、息子と孫は車に残り、我々は二手に分かれて洞窟ツアーを開始した。
「プラグイン・ホール」は参加者は12人。そのうちの5人は愉快なファミリーで、洞窟ツアーには不向きなサイズの母親が最初の垂直下降を見送って、あとは入り口で出てくるのを待った。
垂直下降は約10mの陥没部分でその底にある入り口の門を開けていよいよケービングの開始。

かなり垂直で狭い、文字通り『プラグホール』の連続で、興味深かった部分は礼拝の姿勢をとらないとスムーズに潜り抜けない場所、「祈りの岩」があったことだ。

人生の困難に直面した時、神により頼む姿勢をとればその関門を抜けることができるということだ。
ツアーのコンダクターはやや年配の陽気なオジさんと、まじめな「モーズ」という青年の二人で、彼らがツアー客12人の前後を固めた。
ツアーは2時間の予定だったが、実際には2時間15分かかって、ジェランド洞窟地区への入り口部分へ出たときは4時15分だった。

ツアーの開始時も終了時も雨が降っていたが、ケービングには支障ない。久しぶりの本格的ケービングを体験して高揚感を感じた。
ケービングを終えジェノラン洞窟を発ったのは午後4時半だった。
その後、広域シドニー内のベトナム料理店へ向かい、牛肉がたっぷり入ったしゃぶしゃぶのような麺をたべた。

また、Mさんの発案で追加注文した生春巻はとてもおいしかった。

その後、息子はシドニー市内のK青年のホテルの前まで送り、それからチャッツウッドの自宅へ向かった。
我々が息子宅で小休止している間、息子はさらに往復40分のNBLホテルへゲストの二人を送り届けた。
息子の嫁は、妻が機内で知り合った赤の他人を前日、家に連れてきたばかりか、この日もホテルでのピックアップ、スリーシスターズと洞窟に同行させ、時間が余分にかかるのに途中で下すことをせず、ホテルまで送って行ったことにあきれたようで、息子に苦情を言ったようだ。
私の妻が言いだした無理難題に息子はじつに辛抱強く対応し、クリスチャンとしてどう対応するべきかを私に教えているかのようだった。
また、幼い孫が車に飽きていろいろなことを言ってもその主張を丁寧に聴き、答える態度も素晴らしかった。
息子の徹底した利他主義的行動に感激した一日だった。
