Destination (mountain): Mt.Fuji The 8th Station (3200m)
Hiking course: The 5th Station (“Miharashi”2300m 13:15) – The 7th Station (“Hanagoya”2700m 15:39) – “Kamaiwakan (2790m) 16:45) – The 8th Station (“Haku-unso” 3200m 19:34)
Partner: Salangcho (AhToSan member) and about 40 people in the 1st bus of Club-Gets”
This was my 7th consecutive hike to Mt. Fuji since 2006, And this was the 2nd experience to guide AhToSan members from Korea.
Slangcho is an experienced traveler and she reserved her hotel in Tokyo without my help. As I described in my previous blog, I saw her at Haneda Airport and guided her around Odaiba in Tokyo on the previous day.
I saw her at Asakusa station on Ginza Subway Line that morning. We changed trains at Kanda and arrived at Shinjuku at 7:10.
We walked to Shinjuku Post Office where the bus left. The Club-Gets bus left at 8 am. Our seats were the 2nd from the last, and 5 men sitting behind us were all Chinese youth.
We had a short break at Dangozaka Service Area as usual and arrived at the 5th station of Mt. Fuji at 10:40 am.

I could register as “Free Plan” without a guide to the 8th station so that we could start as soon as we arrived at the 5th station. But since I registered as “Tour with a guide” we had to wait until 1 pm.
We had plenty of “free-time” until 1 pm, so we had a sightseeing walk around the 5th station area.
First, we visited Fujisan Komitake Shrine. It is a typical Japanese shrine with observation deck to see Mt. Fuji. We could see the top of Mt. Fuji very clearly that day.

After seeing the shrine, we went to the pine tree woods behind the shrine.
There was a nice concrete table with several benches, and a middle-aged man with short-pants was having rest alone. So we decided to join him to share the table.

Actually he was a runner who participated “The 65th Fuji Mountain Running,” Up To the 5th Station Course.
He said his son was still running up to the top of Mt. Fuji!
I did not know until this time, but it was the official mountain running race and more than 3000 people officially participated.
After having lunch, we saw many runners coming down from the top of Mt. Fuji. Among them, we happened to see the female winner of this race, and I took a picture of her and Salangcho together.

Later I confirmed the fact that the lady who wore the entry number“3001”was the winner among 55 women who completed 21 km course from Fujiyoshida Office to the top of Mt. Fuji with 3 hours and 5 minute record. (She was the 21st among 1167 runners who completed ) Her name is Mina Ogawa.

The winner of the race was Jonathan Wyatt, a New Zealander, who was the 8 time winner of the world mountain running grand prix series.
Mr. Wyatt was born in December 1972, so he was born in the same year of my 2nd son.
The guide of our group was Mr. Morikawa and he came to the square in front of “Miharashi” at 1 pm. We began to hike at 1:15 pm.
There were about 40 hikers in our group. Soon I notice that there was a family of a couple with a young boy. I asked the boy about his age. He said “Four!”I was very much amazed!

My grandson in Australia is 5 years, but I can’t think of him climbing Mt. Fuji!
They are from Kodaira-shi Tokyo. Since their home is close to Mt. Takao, they climbed the mountain several times, they said.

Moreover, they climbed Mt. Kintokiyama (1213m) in Hakone as their practice hike for Mt. Fuji.
Yet, I was amazed that Junta, the boy, never asked his parents to carry him. He climbed even steep rocky places with his own hands and legs. It seemed that we became good friends.

While climbing the mountain, I also noticed flowers here and there. I did not see many alpine flora on Mt. Fuji before. But actually, there were plenty. I introduce some of them below.

The trails of Mt. Fuji were extraordinary crowded that day. We arrived at Hanagoya of the 7th station (2700m) at 15:39, but it took much time, even within the 7th station. We arrived at Kamaiwakan (2795m) at 16:45, and the situation became worse as we climbed higher.

The sun set before we reached at the 8th station. When we finally arrived at “Hakuunso” at the 8th station (3200m) it was 19:34.

We had a supper of minced cut-let and curry rice, we went to our sleeping place. The room in the lodge, there was no distinction of male and female and the space allocated to each hiker was very narrow, about 70 cm or so.

The worse, that my condition was not good. I could not stop coughing easily when I began coughing. So, I could not sleep at all from 8 to 11 pm. I felt that I was in a concentration camp, and lying on the crowed room was like a physical torture.

同行者：サランチョ(アトサン会員)及びクラブゲッツの富士山を歩こう1号車約40人と案内人(森川氏)
富士山登山は2006年から毎年連続、今年で7回目。今回は2008年に続いてアトサン山岳会の会員を案内した。
アトサン会員のサランチョは旅慣れていて、自分で浅草のケイズハウスという宿所を予約した。私は前日、羽田空港で出迎え、お台場を案内した。
この朝は、地下鉄銀座線浅草駅で6:45に待ち合わせ。彼女は時間通りにきて、神田で乗り換え新宿へ向かった。
新宿の郵便局前には7時20分に到着した。クラブゲッツのバスは7時半には来てすぐ乗車できた。
バスは8時10分に出発。我々は最後尾のひとつ前の席で、最後尾は中国人の若者五人組だった。
途中いつものとおり談合坂で休憩し、五合目には10時40分に到着した。後で思うと、八合目小屋指定でフリー登山プランにすれば良かったともいえるが、しかし、このグループに入ったからこそ後述の北尾ファミリーと知り合って楽しかったともいえる。一期一会である。

サランチョと私は昼食をとるのに適した場所を探した。いつも休憩する「富士山みはらし」の３階は工事中で、休憩はおろか、着替えにも使えなかった。しかし、コインロッカーは使えたのでサランチョが登山に不要なものをコインロッカーに預けた。
その後、「みはらし」の右横の通路を入った場所ある小御嶽(コミタケ)神社を見学。今回は展望台から富士山の頂上がよく見えた。

この小御嶽神社に向かって左側の松林の中にコンクリート製のテーブルとベンチがあり、一人の中年のランナーが休憩していた。
彼に断って同席し、妻が作ってくれたおにぎり弁当をひろげて二人で食べた。サランチョは梅干のおにぎりもおいしいといってよく食べた。

さて、休憩していた中年のランナーに聞くとこの日は「第65回富士登山競走」の日で、彼は五合目ゴールのマラソン登山に参加したという。

また、彼の息子は頂上までのコースに参加して、現在もレース中だという。
この山岳マラソンは私はまったく知らなかったが、私が生まれた翌年の1948年から毎年行われ、今年は65回目。
コースは標高770mの富士吉田市役所前がスタート。北口本宮冨士浅間神社から吉田口登山道を通り、標高3,711mの富士山頂久須志(クスシ)神社までの山頂コースは距離21km、高低差は日本最大の約3,000mに及ぶ。(出典ウィキペディア)
ネットでしらべると今年の参加者は頂上までのフルコース完走者が1299人、五合目までは1166人、エントリーは3101人だった。

我々は昼食後、たまたま降りてきたランナーのグループのうち、女性の部の1位という人に出会った。
後でネットで調べるとたしかにエントリーナンバー「3001」小川ミーナさんが3時間5分51秒で女性の部でトップだった。

女性で富士山の頂上まで完走した人は55人で、その中の一位ということらしい。
ちなみに、男性の部のトップは外国人で、Jonathan Wyatt、タイムは2時間33分59秒だった。
ネットでしらべると、彼はニュージーランドを代表する世界最強の山岳マラソンランナーの一人で世界山岳マラソンレースで8回優勝している。彼は1972年12月生まれで私の次男と同い年だ。

さて、1号車の登山の出発は13時半で案内人は森川氏。私とサランチョは森川氏の直後をキープして歩いた。
六合目の最初の休憩で中国人五人組とそのほかの二人組があまりに元気すぎてグループ登山に向かないので、森川氏はかれらをフリーにかえてグループから離した。(中国人の若者たちは東芝で研修中だという。)

また七合目までで遅れ気味だった女性三人組を切り離そうとしたが、結局すごい渋滞のため、遅れ気味の三人もいっしょに登ることができた。
ところで、私は歩きはじめてすぐに30代～40代と思われるカップルと彼らの子どもに気が付いた。
子供の年齢を訊いて驚いた。なんとまだ4歳だという。子供が親と一緒に登る姿を見るのはそう珍しくない。途中で親が背負う姿もよく目にする。しかし、彼らの子どもは一度も「おんぶ」をねだることなく自力で歩いた。

名前を訊くとキタオ・ジュンタ君。ジュンタ君は最初から最後まで一度も甘えることなく、特に岩登りではかわいい軍手をはめてしっかり登った。

ご両親は注意深く見守るが、あやまやすことはなかった。訊くとかれらは東京都小平市に家があり、今回の富士山登頂の前には東京の高尾山や箱根の金時山で予行練習をしたという。

ところで、今回の富士山登山ではジュンタ・ファリミーのほか、美しい高山植物に気が付いた。これまで富士山では高山植物はあまり気づかなかった。しかし、意外と多くの花が咲いていることに気が付いた。以下にそのいくつかを紹介したい。

さて、この日は山岳マラソンの影響もあったか、これまでの登山で最悪の渋滞で、我々は途中で日が暮れて八合目の白雲荘に到着したのは7時半すぎだった。

白雲荘へ到着後、すぐに寝る場所に案内されたが、これがまた狭い。おそらく私の肩幅ぎりぎりで、70cmぐらいだろうか。
グループごとにつめなくてはならず、寝返りも打てない。ハンバーグカレーの夕食を食べた後、すぐに寝床に入ったが、少しでも動けばとなりのサランチョに触れるため、まったく強制収容所に入れられた気分だ。
悪いことに私の体調も良くなくて、数分おきに咳き込むなどして、周りの人々にも迷惑をかけることになった。この午後8時から、結局寝るのをあきらめて起床した11時までの3時間はまるで拷問にあっているような気分だった。
