It was our final day of the 8-day trip to Australia this year. I walked Lane Cove National Park again as my 7th and final time in the morning.

Then after having breakfast, my son drove Shigeko and me to Bridge Climb Office.

We joined the tour starting at 10:25. They organize bridge climb tour every 5 minutes. Each tour can be full with 14 people and every one has to pay $218. It must be a bood business.

We had the one hour orientation including the actual practice of bridge climb with all equipments including life-line.

We have to leave every personal belonging including cameras at the locker at the office. Then we wear coverall clothes and safety loops and put headphones on our heads.

The guide gave all instructions to participants through wireless communication device in English. It is necessary to understand what she says correctly.
After having one hour orientation, she lead us to the bridge. First, we climbed vertically to the upper part of the office. Then we walked toward the bridge.
It was above the public street and many vehicles passing by. When we arrived at the edge of the bridge, then we began climbing it.
The part of the bridge was not difficult to walk. It was open space with gentle climbing steps.
When we came to the top part of the bridge, the guide began taking pictures of participants by group, as well as indivisually.
Later they give one group picture free (or it was included in the ticket fee.) All additional pictures, you have to buy, either prints or in the form of USB memory.
The whole tour ended at 13:30 and my son came to the office at 14:15. He drove us all to the apartment of John and Mary (his wife’s parents).

Their apartment is the ideal home for the aged couple. There are two bedrooms and a living room with kitchen.

They treated us with tea/coffee and fruits and cakes. They used a peeler for peeling apples. It looked very convenient.

Then we visited the office of our daughter-in-law. Since she is an optometrist, my wife ordered a pair of glasses.

Then we headed for the Sydney Airport.
Since we brought three of our friends with us for this trip, our son must have hard time during our stay. He served us with the spiriti of hospitality and I thought I should follow his good example to treat people. We thank him very much.

この日は最後のレインコープ国立公園の散歩は山コースを歩いた。

今回がもっとも遠くまでの散歩で、「キツネ駆除」の標識があるところまで歩いた。キツネは元来オーストラリアには存在しなかった外来獣で、オーストラリアの在来種にとって脅威なのだろうと思った。

朝食後荷物を整理してSさんと私はシドニー・ハーバーブリッジ登頂へ。
我々は10:25出発のグループで参加者は14人(満員)だった。
ブリッジ・クライムは218ドルもする高額な観光イベントだが非常に人気があり、5分おきにツアーが組まれ、どれもほぼ満員のようだ。

5分おきにグループごとに入場し、オリエンテーションを受け、装備を身につけ、ブリッジの模型に安全装置を連結して、階段を上り、U字型の曲線部分を通過し、下るまでの練習もさせられるので、実際にスタートするまで1時間もかかる。
センターで装備を身につけて、指導員の先導でまずセンターとブリッジのたもと部分までを水平に進む。下は通常の道路で車が行き来する。

橋のたもとに到着するとここからいよいよ登頂開始となるが、部分的に非常に狭いところがあり、太めの人はやや大変そうだ。

私の直前はウェストが私の2倍ほどの巨漢だったが、意外と身軽に通過した。
最初の階段部分が垂直に登ることや狭いこともあり、ややきついが、メインのブリッジ部分はなだらかな階段の開放的な空間で、360度の視界も良く気持ちよい。
ブリッジの頂上部分にさしかかると指導員が参加者のグループ別や個人の写真を撮る。これは登頂後にプリントでもUSBでも購入できる(非常にもうかるビジネスだ)。
ブリッジクライムは約3時間のツアーで、終わってから肇がピックアップにくるまでの時間でセンター内の売店でパンなどを購入して食べた。
時間通り午後2時15分には肇が車でピックアップ。そのまま息子の嫁の両親のジョンとメアリーの家へ向かった。

ジョンとメアリーの家では家の中のガイドをしてもらい、りんご剝き器の便利さに感心した。

その後、ルイースの店に行き、喜久子が自分に合ったメガネを作ってもらった。

帰りの便は肇がネットで座席を予約してくれたおかげで、私は希望通り窓際の席、喜久子は左足が伸ばせる通路側で、我々一行は一塊のシートがとれた。
これで2012年7月の八日間にわたる訪豪旅行の日程はすべて終わった。客人3人が同行した旅のため、息子に多大な負担をかけたが、彼の献身的な奉仕精神に感謝。私も大いに見習うべきとしたい。
