Course: Sendai = Tagajo (Senseki Line), - (Tohoku Shinkansen) – Koriyama – (Bus) – Iwaki – (Joban Line) – Otsukou - Hirakata
I visited the Shiogama Bible Baptist Church (SBBC) this day. Mr. & Mrs. Barkman who served my mother church in Japan (Shonan Nozomi Christ Church), are now attending the service of SBBC and actively working mission service this area. So, I had an appointment to see Mr. Barkman at JR Tagajo Station at 9:10 am.
It took about 20 minutes from Sendai to Tagajo Station by Senseki Line. The Senseki Line was badly damaged by the disaster on March 11, 2011. It was not recovered completely, but so far, up to Tagajo, no problem. The platform was elevated by newly built building.

Mr. Barkman came to pick me up on time. He took me to his house, first, where Mrs. Barkman was waiting for us.

The morning service started at 9:30. The church building looked new, but it was built before the disaster. It was much larger than I expected. The congregation was about 60, it was also more than I thought.

They had lively service, especially for music praise. They had even an electric guitar player.

The messenger was a Japanese pastor, and several foregin missionaries besides Mr. & Mrs. Barkman.

They had a tea-time after the service, but I had a little time there since I was to visit my relatives that afternoon.

Mr. Barkman took me to show the area where he was working as mission work. The area where the disaster hit badly by earthquake, fire and tsunami.

He also took me to the provisional housing area. People who lost their houses are temporarily living in those houses.

Mr. Barkman took me to Tagajo Station and I took 12:19 train to Sendai. I changed trains to Tohoku Shinkansen and headed for Koriyama Station. I bought an Ekiben named "Umino Kagayaki" for my lunch.

The next destination was Iwaki city where one of my cousins was living. I took a direct bus from Koriyama to Iwaki city.

Yoshihisa, one of my cousin came to pick me up at Iwaki Station. He took me to his home in Hisanohama.

This time, I did not enter his house, but just looked around the tsunami-hit area. The huge mountain of rubbles were taken away, but no buildings there.

The recovery of the area seemed not to begin yet.
Yoshihisa and his wife took me to a coffee-shop in front of Iwaki Station. We spent for about 40 minutes until my train came.
I took Joban Line train from Iwaki to Otsukou where another relative was waiting for me.
Takashi is a fisherman at Hirakata Harbor where my father was born nearly one hundred years ago. Takashi is my father’s brother’s son’s son. In other words, my cousin’s son.
His three-story house was washed by tsunami, but since it was a well-built concrete house, it remained as it was.
He and two of his sons saved 3 of their fishing boats by driving them to the sea soon after he felt the strong quake. But they could not sell the fish because of nuclear contamination.
According to Takashi, the operator of clippled nuclear reactors, compensates 80 percent of the previous year’s income. But it is still hard for all fishermen there.
Takashi reserved a hotel room for me, and we had a little party at the dining room of the hotel.

I bought a nice sake from Sendai for him, but he said since he had daiabities he did not drink Japanese sake, but drank shochu.
I should buy Andong Shochu from Korea then.
The owner of the hotel joined our conversation. He welcomed sake, so I presented my “omiyage” to him.
Takashi said he would go fishing next morning. What he would catch would be used as samples of nuclear contamination test.
He said he would go fishing at 3 am next morning. His daughter came to pick him up at 8 pm. I slept at a small room upstairs at Takeshikan Hotel. It was my 4th and last night of this domestic travel to Hokuriku-Tohoku area.

この日、塩釜聖書バプティスト教会を訪問するため、仙台から仙石線で多賀城へ向かった。仙石線は2年前の東日本大震災の影響でいまだ不通区間がある。

塩釜バプティスト教会は私の母教会である湘南のぞみキリスト教会の中興として1990年代に約10年間牧会して下さったバークマン先生夫妻が現在震災被害地復興の一端として協力・活躍されている教会である。

仙台から多賀城までは所要時間は20分ほど。待ち合わせ時刻は9時10分だったが、仙台を観光する時間はなく、早めに出発して30分早く着いた。
バークマン先生は時刻通り迎えに来た。ご夫妻の活動の拠点であるお宅を訪問してから釜石聖書バプティスト教会を訪れた。

教会は立派な独立した建物で、会堂も広く、会衆は約60人と多いことに驚いた。説教スタイルと礼拝の信仰はSNCCと韓国で私が通っているVRBCの中間のような気がする。

会衆が多いのと、若い人が多いことに感銘を受けた。礼拝は10時～11:15で、その後ティータイムだったが、バークマン先生は現在魂の復興事業に携わっている被災地を案内して下さった。

津波の威力はすさまじく、沿岸沿いの集落がそっくり消滅してしまったところが多くあったようだ。また、仮設住宅も現代の「長屋」のようで、苦労が絶えないだろうと察する。

さて、塩釜バプティスト教会の後は、福島県いわき市久ノ浜の従兄弟のところを訪問した。
バークマン先生に多賀城駅へ送ってもらい、12:19多賀城発仙台行にはぎりぎり間に合い、仙台での新幹線もぎりぎりに間に合った。
新幹線の社内では駅弁「海の輝き」－紅鮭はらこめしーを買って食べたが、非常においしかった。

仙台から新幹線で二つ目の郡山で下車、いわき行きバスに乗り換えた。
いわき駅には午後3時過ぎに到着。父方の従兄弟の義久さん夫婦が待っていてくれた。彼らの車で久ノ浜の被災地を車で案内してもらって、義久さんの家の前まで行ったが、そのまま家には寄らず、前回訪れた海岸の被災地にまた連れて行ってもらった。
がれきはおおかた無くなっていたが、新しい家は建っていない。荒廃した様子はそのままだった。

その後、いわき駅へもどり、駅の構内のコーヒーショップで電車の発車時間まで40分ほどコーヒーを飲みながら話を聞いた。
そして今回の北陸・東北の旅の最後の目的地である父の生まれ故郷の茨城県北茨城市の平潟へ向かった。
ＪＲいわき駅を17:36発の常磐線の電車で大津港には18:04に到着した。父方の本家の従兄弟の長男である隆志さんがワゴン車で出迎えてくれて、そのまま宿泊予定のペンション武士館へ向かった。

武士館では食堂に御馳走が並んでいて、二人で再会を祝して飲んだ。隆志さんに仙台からの酒を持参したが、酒は糖が出ているからだめだといって受け取らない。武士館の主人が酒は行けると言うのでご主人に進呈した。

武志さんはもっぱら焼酎だというのでそれなら次回、韓国の「安東焼酎」を土産に持ってくると約束した。
2時間ほど宿の主人も交え飲みながら話をしたが、どうしても原発事故の影響の話になる。国の規定は海産物から検出される放射能が100ベクレル以下ということだが、県の規定はさらに厳しく50ベクレル以下でなければ出荷できないという。
漁ができないことに対する補償は前年の収入の8割というとこだが、船は遊ばせておくことはできないという。(エンジン等の器具がさび付いてしまうから。)
しかし、魚に対する汚染度を調べるために、時折、漁をするようである。この日の翌日はそのサンプルを獲るため3時に起きて漁に出ると言う。そのため、8時ごろ、娘さんが迎えに来た。
今回は風呂の案内はなく、隆志さんが予約しておいてくれた2回の端の部屋で寝た。
北陸東北旅行の第4日目、最後の夜である。
