1. Message from Shonan Christ Church (SCC) by Junshi Furuya
May Grace and Peace of our Lord be on Mrs. Eileen Walter and the congregation bathered here.
“The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” Luke 24:46-47 (NIV)
As it is written in the Bible, the repentance for the forgiveness of sins was preached to the land of Shonan Area: Tsujido Higasikaigan, by Mr. & Mrs. Walter.
Our Lord remembered people in Shonan Area and sent them as the messengers of his words to this area.
It was just half a century ago when Pastor and Mrs. Furuta, together with Mr. & Mrs. Walter held the first service here on May 16 in 1964. We all thank you for your precious work.
We still hear how Mr. & Mrs. Walter loved our church from the testimonies of old members. We understand that you kept remembering us in your prayers even after going back to your country and were pleased by the news of our church growth.
It was just ten years ago, June 3rd, 2004 when you visited us for the last time. The new church building will be completed at the place you stayed then and we bade adieu to on June 20, 2014. (The church land will the three times larger than present one.) We believe that you would be pleased to see the picture of this new building. Of course, you will be pleased with Lord in the heaven.
We will love others with Lord’s love as you showed us while you were here, and we will keep promoting God’s work in Shonan Area.
“The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.” Psalm 145:17
May Lord’s support on Mrs. Eileen Walter and the bereaved family today and tomorrow and forever.

1. 湘南キリスト教会より by 古屋順史
アイリーン夫人とご家族の上に、また主にある皆様の上に主の恵みと平安がありますように。
「キリストは苦しみを受け、三日目に死人の中からよみがえり、その名によって、罪の赦しを得させる悔い改めが、エルサレムから始まってあらゆる国の人々に宣べ伝えられる。」（ルカ 24:46-47）
この御言葉の通り、日本という国の藤沢市のさらにこの辻堂東海岸の地にも、罪の赦しを得させる悔い改めが宣べ伝えられました。
主がこの地を御心に留めてくださり、福音を持ち運ぶ使者としてウォルター先生ご夫妻をお遣わしくださったのです。
古田牧師夫妻と協力して始めた、第一回目の集会から今年の5月16日で丁度50年が経ちました。湘南キリスト教会の礎となったその尊い働きに感謝しています。
ウォルター先生が如何に教会を愛してくださったかは、今も人々の口から聞くことができます。
帰国後も私たちのことをいつも祈りに覚えてくださり、教会の成長等を聞いて喜んでくださっていたことを伺っています。
先生が最後に湘南キリスト教会を訪問されたのは10年前の2004年6月3日です。その際、先生ご夫妻が宿泊された場所、最後に先生と別れた場所に新会堂が今月20日に完成します（現在の3倍の広さの土地に）。この建物の完成した写真を見たらまた喜んでくださっただろうと思わされます。しかし、もちろん先生は主の御もとにあって喜んでくださるでしょう。
ウォルター先生が示してくださった主の愛をもって、私たちも人々を愛し、主の御業を推し進めたいと願っています。
「主はご自分のすべての道において正しく、またすべてのみわざにおいて恵み深い。」（詩篇145:17）
アイリーン夫人の上に、ご家族の上に、主の支えが今も明日もその後も、いつまでもありますよう祈ります。

2. Message from SNCC by Tomoyuki Tachibana
I send my sincere greeting as the representative of Shonan Nozomi Christ Church (SNCC) to late Mr. Donald Walter who was recently triumphant in heaven.
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Walter, thank you for establishing and raising SNCC.
SNCC which you started 38 years ago in Ofuna, is still there, and we are having services every Sunday.
You started English Bible Class at George’s home, then Sunday morning service on the 2nd floor of Shonan English College.
I still remember Sunday moring services and Englis Bible Studies at Tamanawadai, they were so fun. “The unseen hand” always worked and He kept adding new members to SNCC.
I heard that Eileen was longing to join Mr. Walter in heaven, and we were very much encouraged by her words.
We believe that we will join you in heaven, too. May the protection and lead by Jesus Christ on Eileen, Mr. & Mrs. Swanson, and all brothers and sisters in Jesus in the States for ever.

湘南のぞみキリスト教会を代表して、天国に凱旋されたD・ウォルター先生に、ごあいさつ申し上げます。
D・ウォルター先生、そしてアイリーンさん。私たちのSNCCを産み育てて下さって、本当に、本当にありがとうございます。
大船の地で、38年前に誕生したSNCCは、今も変わらず礼拝が主に捧げられています。
鈴木泰次兄の家庭集会から始まり、湘南イングリッシュカレッジの２階では、あの大船観音を正面から見据えて、礼拝を守りましたね。玉縄台での礼拝や英語クラスも、とても楽しかったです。そして、いつも主の見えざる手が、新しい信仰者を仲間に加えて下さいました。
アイリーンさんが、D・ウォルター先生に再び天国で会えることを待ち遠しく思っていることをお聞きして、私たちもとても励まされています。
きっと、私たちも、天国でご一緒出来ると信じています。イエス・キリストの守りと導きとが、アイリーンさん、ロイスさん、クレイグ先生、そして信仰でつながる米国の兄弟姉妹の方々の上に、世々限りなくありますように。

3. Message from Hananoki Christ Church by Michio & Kayo Itoh.
I heard that Walter-sensei went to heaven from Shizuko (Furuta) san on May 4. You devoted your whole life to Japan as a missionary, and we realized aht we could not see you again on earth. We were filled with loneliness.
We wanted to visit Vancouver to see you on earth, but I myself became physically weak recently, and we could not fullfil our wish, so we regret that very much. We once again read your book “The unseen hand” which you wrote about your work in Japan.
Thank you for your fellowship and love to us and our family very much. Lord’s work began by you and Mr. & Mrs. Swandon is expanding in Shonan Area now.
The new church building of Shonan Christ Church will soon be completed on the land where once Kochoen was.
The construction for the new Shonan Lifetown Christ Church has also begun on the much larger land in Shonan Area.
Thinking of these facts, we were filled with thankfulness to the precious work done by Mr. & Mrs. Walter.
Our best regards to Mrs. Eileen Walter. We are sorry that we could not attend the service, but we pray for you in Japan.

5月4日(日)に、古田静子さんより、ドナルド･ウォルター先生が天に召されたことをお聞きしました。宣教師として、日本のために生涯をささげられた先生の召天のお知らせをきいて、もう、この地上においてはお会いできないことを思うとさびしい気持ちでいっぱいになりました。
一度、お元気なうちに、バンクーバーにお尋ねしたいと願いつつも、私もからだを弱くし、実現できなかったことを残念に思っています。ウォルター先生の日本での働きについて、書いてくださった本をもう一度読み返しています。
家族ぐるみ、大変お世話になり有難うございました。ウォルター先生ご夫妻とスワンソン先生ご夫妻によってなされた主の働きは、今も日本の湘南の地を中心に拡大しています。
めぐみ胡蝶園のあったところには、湘南キリスト教会の新しい会堂がまもなく完成します。また、湘南ライフタウンキリスト教会も新しい広い土地に新会堂建設が始まっています。これらのことを思うとき、ウォルター先生ご夫妻がなさった尊い働きを思い、感謝の思いでいっぱいです。
アイリーン・ウォルター先生にも、よろしくお伝えください。ご葬儀には伺えませんが、日本の地においてお祈りしております。

4. Message from Shonan Lifetown Christ Church by Nobuhito Itoh(湘南ライフタウンキリスト教会よりby 伊藤暢人) Dear Swanson Sensei and Lois san, May 21, 14
As soon as I heard from Oyama san that Walter Sensei had died, one thought came to me. “Banzai, Walter Sensei! Now you have been with The Lord!”
Death may have virtually destroyed you (your body) . However, we know that you have overcome it. Because the Bible says, " Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?...But thanks to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
I thank The Lord that He let me meet Mr. & Mrs. Walter. If they had not lived in Chigasaki, Kiyo Sensei did not marry Michio Sensei. If they had not married, our SLCC did not exist now.
So I thank Mr. & Mrs. Walter so much as one of SLCC members.
God's comfort may abundantly be on the bereaved family and all the people who know Walter Sensei!

5. A Message from Katsunari Hayashi (Former member of SNCC)
This is a message to late Mr. Walter, Walter sensei from Katsunari Hayashi.
It is with regret that I have just heard of the passing of Walter sensei.
It is him who told me of ‘value system’ in life.
It is him who always said it is important to get a Christian wife.
It is him who said ‘Kats, you are unique, and that is good. It is good to have a unique idea and sometimes do differently from others.’
I met him and Mrs. Walter at age of 18, so I have known them for more than 30 years.
Value in life, it is a key where I find the value in life. Value is, I can say now, in the Lord and in the Words. I have paid attention to it, and I have got Christian wife according to his advice, which has been so good also.
And, when he says you are unique, it was always an encouragement word for me.
His loss is a shock for my family, me and Emiko and Aika.
His all-time closeness to the Lord and friendliness to us will be missed.

Donald Arlie Walter, 93, of Vancouver, WA, passed away My 2, 2014. He was born Dec. 23, 1920 to Arlie Dell and Nora Pearl (Whiteside) Walter in Prescott, WI. He went on to attend the Vancouver Business College, Prairie Bible College, and Warner Pacific College. Donald worked with the Evangelical Alliance Mission as a missionary pastor in Japan for 40 years, establishing three ongoing churches. Donald was the member of the Japanese International Baptist Church in Tigard, OR since 1996, and he also served as the honorary pastor. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and skiing. Donald is survived by his wife of over 73 years, Eileen (Sundem) Walter; son, Paul (and Debbie) Walter; daughter, Lois (and Craig) Swanson; four grandchildren, Eric Walter, Michelle Lacy, Kip and Kaj Swanson; and two great-grandchildren, Sienna and Ethan Lacy.
