Mt. TaeHwaSan (泰華山태화산423m), Gongju(公州공주), /General Meeting(総会)

Hiking Date: Dec. 17 (Sat) 2011, Fine

Destination (mountain): Mt. TaeHwaSan (423m), Gongju, ChungNam Province

[A group picture before the hike,

Hiking course: Magoksa Parking Lot – Magoksa – HalInBong (TaeHwaSan) – NaeBalBong – River – Magoksa Temple – Parking Lot

[Cris joined us from Seoul, ]

Partner: About 50 AhToSan members (Cris and I were only foreigners.)

[Cris with AhToSan members,

This time AhToSan chose a small mountain near Daejeon. Gongju is a neighboring city of Daejeon, so the bus left at Expo Sought Gate at 9 a.m.

[JeongDaun Family,

I left my studio apartment at 7:40 and walked to the South Gate. It took me just one hour.

Since AhToSan performed “Thank-gods-for the safty hike” ceremony, we did not need lunch box. Moreover, I forgot to buy fruits for the break time. Therefore I used smaller bag. Anyway, I forgot the tripot for self-timer pictures.

[The alter of "Thank gods for the safe hike" ceremony, 『終山祭』の祭壇、『종산제』의 제단 ] Cris came from Seoul after 6 months break. He came from the opposite direction to the bus stop. He sat by me and studied Hangul by reading Korean newspaper.

[The president performed "chol" at the alter, ]

The bus stopped at Gongju to pick up those who live in Gonju. Some members went to the mountain by their cars. Therefore, participants were about 50 members.

[Members performed "chol" at the alter,

On the bus, we cerebrated Minju’s 50th hike award. At the end of last year, she made 23 hikes. So she made more than 27 hikes this year. The cake was delax, and we shared pieces at the party.

[Old facility of "ondol" heating system of the temple,

We arrived at the parking lot at 10 a.m. We saw a beautiful mountain gate of the temple on the way.

[The top of Taehwasan (Halinbong)、

The river near the temle was frozen. We began climbing the mountain while seeing the temple on right side.

After climbing about one hour, we reached at the peak of Taehwasan, called “Hal-in-bong (423m.) I was in the last group.

[Boiled pork devoted to "Thank gods for the safety hike ceremony,『終山祭』の供え物:スユク、종산제의 수육]

We continued to walk along the ridge, and at the next peak, lower than the first peak, we performed “Thank-gods for safty hike this year” ceremony.

I guess it was my 7th participation of this ceremony. The 7th president, SanSalang performed “chol”or “ceremonial bow” then JeongDaun, the vice president performed “chol” with her husband.

This time, too, Cris performed “chol” at the alter. All Christians excused themselves avoiding “chol” to the mountain gods. I also avoided this ceremony.

We had prenty of food to share after the ceremony. I brought my own lunch box, but I kept it for the food next day.

After the ceremony, I walked with Cris all the way to the final destination.

[A group picture after the ceremony, 「終山祭」後の集合写真、「종산제후 단체사진] After reaching the 2nd peak (NaeBalBong) we came down from the mountain and walked along the river.

There were “silver grasses” in the river bed and part of river water was frozen. They were beautiful.

We also visited Magoksa Temple. It was also a beautiful temple with old stone pagoda.

We finished hiking before 3 p.m. and we began the general meeting at 3 p.m.

They began the ceremony with sining national anthem "The Song of Love for the Country."

They awarded the three most frequent hikers; Smile, Hangeryong and Yoreji. Then they awared Special Award to me! Actually I participated 39 hikes this year and totally 264. As long als participation frequency, I am the best AhToSan member. They gave me a nice warm cap for my bailed head.

[They awarded me as "Special Award" for the most frequent participation,

They introduced 5 presidents for the past 7 years; Hao-chonsan, Kaizer, Cholompem (3 times), Alain Delon, and SanSalang. Then they released the new president: JeongDaun. She is the first female president in AhToSan history!
[Former President, San-Salang and New President, JeongDaun,

The new vice-president is “Chilgapsan”and I was appointed as a special consultant again.

We had a lot of foods and drinks, but unlike last year, there was no “karaoke” time.

The party was over at 5 p.m. and we came back to South Gate at 6 p.m.

[After the party at the parking lot, 忘年会の後、駐車場で、송년회후 주차장에서] It was my 65th hike for this year and 264 hike as AhToSan regular hike participation for me.

[A group picture before the hike,

[The mountain gate of Magoksa Temple,

[Some members joined the hike by their own cars,

[AhToSan awarded Minju as her 50th hike,
[The top of Taehwasan (Halinbong)、

[AT the trail on the ridge,

[The alter of "Thank gods for the safe hike" ceremony, 『終山祭』の祭壇、『종산제』의 제단 ] 毎回同じ手順で行われる。

[The president performed "chol" at the alter,

[At the last peak with Cris and other members,

[The old "Ondol" facility,

[At the frozen river near the temple,

[Green Snake and Ttowa and Chomwa、『

[They awarded me as "Special Award" for the most frequent participation,

111211 BingGeSan(ビンゲ山빈게산), Sutongol(ストンコル수통골), Daejeon(テジョン대전)

Dec. 11 (Sun) 2011, Cloudy,

Destination (Mountain):

Hiking course: Sutonggol Parking Lot – BingGeSan – The junction of three trails – (Observatory on the ridge to GeumSuBong) – Sutonggol BongGa Restaurant

[At KAIST Main Gate Parking Lot, KAIST正門駐車場にて、KAIST정문 주차장]

Partners: 13 (5 USA, 4 Koreans, Ausie, Canadian, Chinese and Dutch.)

[At the entrance of the trail to BingGeSan,

This was the 11th hiking with Taejeonhikers I joined this year. This year, Alan kindly planned light hiking in the afternoon of Sunday so that I can join him after attending morning service at the church.

[At the guidepost which says 1.2km to BingGeSan,ビンゲ山まであと1.2kmという里程標、빈계산까지 1.2 km라고 표지하는 이정표]

Alan has been working for the institute of nuclear fusion research center for more than 10 years. Since he was born in 1932, he is going to be 80 next year. So his institute decided not to extend the contract for him.

[Alan explaining the mountains at the ridge,

I met him in the fall of the first year when I came to Korea 9 years ago (2003). I seemed to be fell in love with his healthy way of living.

He introduced me “Stammtsich” meeting which has been held on Wednesday. It’s a casual meeting in English and foreigners and Koreans joined this meeting for casual talk in English.

[Those who followed Jongmu at the observatory,

He also introduced “caving” to me. I joined him for caving totally 12 times in the years of 2004 -2006. (Later, I freferred to attending Sunday church services and AhToSan on Saturday.)

[On the way to BingGeSan,

I also joined Taejeon hikers hikes which Alan has planned from time to time.

It is really a big shock that he leaves Korea for good. I will miss him in a great deal. But that is the reality of life. We have “hello” and “good-bye” at every moment.

[At the top of BingGeSan,

This time, he planned for the light hike to Sutonggol in Daejeon.

I came to this area a dozen of times with Taejeon hikers, or alone.

[Alan and "Pipi"

This time, we had quite an international team: 14 members from 7 countries.

Bingesan is one of the most easiest mountains in Sutonggol. But the course directly from the parking lot to the peak of Bingesan was new to me.

[At "SutongGol BonGa" the duck restaurant,ストンコル本家にて、수통골본가에서 ] The trails in Sutonggol were well facilitated just like other mountains. And there were many people enjoying the light hike.

It was about one hour hike from the parking lot to the top of Bingesan. Jongmu, who is a good hiker, suggested to climb another mountain, GeumSuBong. But it took too much time if we went to all the way to the top. So he suggested to the observatory on the ridge.

[At "SutongGol BonGa" the duck restaurant,

Mr. Dongseon Choi and I did not follow Jongmu, but all other hikers followed him. (I was a bit tired after the hike on previous day with AhToSan, and Dongseon was not used to hike more than one hour.)

[Mr. Choi ordered the dinner very well,チェさんがたいへん上手に料理を注文してくれた、최동선씨가 료리를 잘 주문해주었다.]

So Dongseon and I went down to the “duck restaurant” first and waited for others. Thus we had much time to talk each other.

I found out that Dongseon was born in Nov. 1947. So he and I were born in the same year!

He is a retiree from a junior college and enjoys traveling abroad with this wife. How nice!

He is planning to travel to USA next year. I would like to visit Alan in Tenessee next year, too.

We arrived at the duck restaurant called “SuTonGol Bong-Ga” at 4 p.m. and others came to the restaurant at 5 p.m.

[At the duck restaurant,

I always enjoy the food they provide there. George Furst and Haekyong did not follow Jungmu, but they went home to fetch their dog, Pipi.

They joined the party, but some members went home without attending the party.

-----------------------------------------------------

[At KAIST Main Gate Parking Lot, KAIST正門駐車場にて、KAIST정문 주차장]

[Those who followed Jongmu at the observatory,

[At the duck restaurant,

[The last dish was "clear soup with dough flakes" in the jar,

The duck dishes with plenty of vegitable tasted good. We also ordered a kettleful of “makgeolli.”

This was my 64th hike for this year. Alan drove me back to KAIS at about 7 p.m.
