DR #191 “A wedding ceremony in Seoul and my favorite hiking gears”

On the first Sunday of November, there was a wedding ceremony in Gangnam, Seoul. I attended the ceremony with one of my old friends in Seoul.

I was dispatched to ETRI from October 1996 to the end of February, 1997 by InfoCom Research Inc., one of subsidiaries of NTT.

I regard this period as my 3rd phase of “youth” as I spent exiting days of fresh discoveries almost every day.

I began writing ROK (Report on Korea) and sent these reports to my friends mostly in Japan. I finished ROK in 1997, but re-started writing DR as you know, in 2003 when I began living in Korea again.

During the period when I was working at ETRI, I lived at a dormitory of ETRI and I met a lady (EJ) who was then a student of HanNam University, master-course. She was working as a translator at ETRI as a part time job.

She introduced me many Korean customs and cultures. She invited me to her hometown, Iksan, so I was introduced to her family, too.

After I left Korea, she graduated from the university and got married.

When I came back to Daejeon again in 2003, she was living with her husband and their boy in Daejeon. So, I visited the family.

A couple of years later, the family moved to Ulsan where her mother-in-law was. She was in Ulsan with her boy, but unfortunately, they got divorced for some reason.

Then she changed her name from EJ to NW, and moved to Uijeongbu with her boy. She also had a new profession, an English instructor at a provate institute.

Now I got news of her wedding in Seoul, so I decided to observe her wedding ceremony with congratulating mind.

I have two more female friends of NW’s generation in Seoul. One of them, MJ was willing to join me to attend the wedding ceremony.

So MJ and I observed NW’s wedding in GangNam, Seoul on Nov. 6.

MJ openly calls herself as my 3rd Korean daughter. Actually, I did not do much good things to them. Rather, MJ gives presents to me (and my wife) whenever she finds any reasons.

Recently MJ sent me a set of hiking gears (two shirts, three jackets and two trousers for hiking). Among them, I especially like the red and black shirt. If you visit my blog, you may notice that I wear it almost every hike since she had sent it to me.

So far, I have not used these jackets, because the weather has been warm this autumn. But it will be very cold from now on in winter in Korea. So I am going to wear these warm jackets while hiking Korean mountains in winter.

[With the bride before the ceremony,
