It was raining in the morning. AhToSan never cancels its hike because of bad weather. But it seems not the case for other hiking club.
[The guide map for climbing JangGunBong,
7 hikers from “Geumgang Hikers” joined us because their club canceled the bus because of the bad weather.
When I checked AhToSan web in the morning, there were 35 applicants, so I can use two seats for myself. I was surprised to find out that the bus was almost full and no vacant seat, it was because we picked up 7 hikers from other club!
Dispite of the weatherforcast, it was getting clear and fine as we approach the destination. When we arrived at “Gusuri” the parking lot, it was fine, a nice weather!.
[At the bottom of the rocky trail,
It seemed that it rained a lot on the previous night because the water in the river was prenty. Some part of the trail was under the water and we had to jump such places.
[At the ridge, looking down the village,
Nowadays, I always feel tough when I climbed uphill at first. Yet I managed to follow the main group, and could provide my fruits and makgeolli with my fellow hikers when we had short breaks on the ridge.

When I arrived at the top of JangGunBong almost noon, I was one of the last members. Most of other memebers were already arrived and began having lunch there.
[Eating lunch together, 昼食時間、점심시간][At the top of JangGunBong, 将軍峰にて、장군봉 정상에서]
I joined the last members, with Geumgang, the photographer, and “Haengbuk” or “Happiness” and enjoyed lunch together. “Chomwa” cooked ramen and “Gaul ilgi” or “Autumn Diary” took some ramen for me. Come to think of it, she gave me a jar of home-made “Gochujang (고추장)” That’s very kind of her.
[My breakfast on Dec. 5 with Gochujang (left)、
The group from Geumgang Club cooked “Oritang” or “duck soup” and one of them gave me a piece of duck meat. It was very delicious!
After having lunch, some of us went to “Saja Bawui” or “Lion Rock.” I followed “Jeongjeong” the strong female hiker and took some pictures there.

Then I joined the top group and went on ridge hike as well was the downhill hike and never dropped out. I regained my confidence and enjoyed the hike very much.
When we came to the famous “Skull Rock” I even climbed the rock and reached at “mouth” of the skull, while “Jeongjeong” climbed higher part of the skull (nose?) and got our pictures by other hikers.
[At the Skull Rock,
It took us for about 2 hours to go down to the parking lot. Jeongjeong went down first and when I arrived at the bus, she was already cooking “kimchi chige.”
She told me that AhToSan came to the same mountain in November 2005. I checked my diary, but I did not join at that time. So it was my first experience to climb this mountain.
[JangGunBong and the dried persimmons,
We enjoyed the wrap-up party until 3:30 and came back to South Gate Parking Lot at 5:30 p.m. “Sansalang” gave me a ride to Sinseongdong, so I came back at around 6 p.m.
[Jeongjeong is preparing for the wrap-up party,チョンジョンが打ち上げパーティの準備をしている。 [At the wrap-up party, 打ち上げパーティにて、뒤풀이에서]
It was my 62nd hike for this year, and my 262nd AhToSan regular hike as total.
PS:The photographer, Geumgang wrote after the hike as below:
[With Mr. Geumgang, the photographer,

“The clearness after the rain was just like today.” We could enjoy the blue sky and the white clouds fully in our hearts.
Those who gave up this hike because of the rain predicted must have regretted a lot by seeing our pictures.
The luck we had, was given to those who never gave up the hike whatever the situation seemed bad. That fact I realized deeply in my heart today.
I also thank those who had brought a lot of delicious foods to lunch and the wrap-up party, too. We became happier or got additional happiness because of those who prepared good foods.
To those who happened to join us today, I would like to say, please come and join us again. I was very happy to have you today. It was a heavenly given chance to know each other.

[A group picture before the hike,
[The water in the river was overflowing,
[At the ridge,
[The last approach to the top of the mountain, 頂上への最後のアプローチ、 정상을 향한 마지막 도전][JangGunBong, 将軍峰、장군봉]
[At the Skull Rock,
[JangGunBong and the dried persimmons,
[The wrap-up party at the parking lot, 駐車場で打ち上げ、주차장에서 뒤풀이][At the wrap-up party, 打ち上げパパーティにて、뒤풀이에서]

I like hiking very much. I used to go hiking with a Korean hiking club named “AhToSan.” This blog introduces mostly my hiking activities in Korea and Japan, and Sydney in Australia. As of January 2020, I live in Sydney suburb. I go Blue Mountains and bush walk in Sydney area.
