140909 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri 2nd Day (富士登山須走ルート第2日目 후지 등산 수바시리 루트 둘째 날)

140909 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri 2nd Day

Date: Sep. 9, 2014 (Tue) Fine

Route: Hacchome “Edoya” – Kusushi Shrine – Kengamine (3776m) – Subashiriguchi Exit – Sunaharai Gogome – Subashiri Gogome Bus-Stop

Partners: Bernardo (from Mexico) and Mario (from Germany)

It was the 2nd day of my 6th hike to Mt. Fuji in 2014, We got up at 2 am and began walking up to the top of Mt. Fuji at 3 am.

[In front of "Edoya" 『

I had my breakfast before the hike, but my guests seemed that they did not have much appetite, maybe they had slight mountain sickness?

[Guidepost at Kyugome,

Anyway, once we began walking, they were all right. The trail was not crowded at all, and we could walk smoothly to the top of the mountain.

It was the night of Super Moon. We had the beautiful full moon above our heads. To our surprise, we could see the shadow of Mt. Fuji caused by the Super Moon clearly. Again it was my first experience to see the shadow of Mt. Fuji by the moon!

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji by Super Moon,

It was not too windy that night. We could walk comfortably and we arrived at the top of Mt. Fuji (in front of Kusushi Shrine) before 5 am.

[In front of Kusushi Shrine,

There are several lodges in front f Kusushi Shrine. But there was only “Oogiya” open that day. All other lodges were closed.

[On the top of Mt. Fuji,

Also there were a few hikers at the observatory on the top of Mt. Fuji. We could sit at the bench in front of Oogiya.

[My guests on the top of Mt. Fuji,

But there were clouds in the direction of east that day. So we could not expect a beautiful sunrise. Therefore we gave up waiting for the sunrise at the observatory and began walking around the crater.

[My guests in front of the crater,

It is always difficult to climb up to Kengamine, the highest point around the crater. But while we were taking pictures at Kengamine, it began to clear the clouds and we could see “Kage Fuji” or the shadow of Mt. Fuji clearly.

We were really lucky, that we could see three different types of “Kage Fuji” at once. First, by the evening sun, the second, by Super Moon, and the third, by the morning sun!

[Shadow of Mt. Fuji,

[In front of "Kagefuji", 『

We could see our own shadows on the rock around the crater, too.

[Our own shadow on the rock,

I saw icicles hanging from the rock near the exit of “Ohachimeguri” to Subashiriguchi.

We enjoyed the down trail of Subashiri Route, too, since it is different from Yoshidaguchi Route. We could enjoy longer steps the down trail.

We went down to “Sunabarai Gogome” without much difficulties. When we arrived at “Sunabarai Gogome” we celebrated our hike with a can of beer for each, which Mario bought previous day.

We took 9:50 bus leaving Subashiriguchi Gogome Bus Stop and returned to Gotanda Station at 10:40. They took their luggage out of coin locker and we went to a coffee shop named “Fugetsu.”

There, they wanted to change their clothes, so I asked the coffee shop owner if we could use rest room to change the clothes.

She urged us to use the room upstairs. They were happy to use spacious room to change their clothes. I am happy that the owner (could be just a clerk, but I thought she was the owner of the shop) was so kind, showing the spirit of “Omotenashi” or hospitality of Japanese.

(Mt. Fuji)

[In front of "Edoya" 『

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji by Super Moon,

[In front of Kusushi Shrine,

[On the top of Mt. Fuji,

[My guests in front of the crater,

[Bernardo at Kengamine,

[A group picture at Kengamine,

[Shadow of Mt. Fuji,

[In front of "Kagefuji", 『

[Our own shadow on the rock,

[Icicles around the crater,

[On the way down, 下山路にて、하산로에서]

[At "Sunabarai Gogome",

["Fuji Azami" a kind of thistle,

[Down trail near Gogome,

[The bus to Gotemba,

[A poster of Mt. Fuji,

140908 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri Route First Day(富士登山須走ルート第1日目후지 등산 수바시리 루트 첫날)

140908 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri Route First Day

Date: Sep. 8, 2014 (Mon) Cloudy, occasional rain

Route: Subashiriguchi Gogome – Hacchome “Edoya”

Partners: Bernardo (from Mexcico) and Mario (from Germany)

It was my 6th hike to Mt. Fuji in 2014 and totally my 14th hike to that mountain. I checked the access to Subashiriguchi one week before. It was a rainy day, so I climbed only up to Rokugome (the 6th Station) that day and returned to the bus-stop at Gogome that day.

[Mt. Fuji Subashiri Route,

I checked the weather of Mt. Fuji by internet. It was “A” which meant good, but according to TV forecast, it would be cloudy, and occasionally rain.

As for the transportation, I planned the same schedule as I went previous week, but there was an accident along Tokaido Line, so we took the unexpected delayed train which came before the time I planned.

Yet we got off at the wrong station, Oiso ST, in stead of Kozu, because of my mistake. Fortunately the next train came soon, so we could arrive at Kozu ST in time.

We changed trains at Kozu for Gotemba Line, and we arrived at Gotemba ST as I planned all right. We had 20 minutes there for the bus to Subashiriguchi Gogome.

[Gotemba Line train at Kozu ST,

My guests were short of Japanese currency, so they went the Information Center and asked how to draw Japanese currency at a convenience store. They suggested to use convenient store, 7-11. They found a 7-11 store and drew Japanese currency at ATM there.

They did their work within 20 minutes while I was waiting for the bus. While I was waiting at the bus stop, an Asian traveler spoke to me. He was one of 4 Malaysians visiting Mt. Fuji for sightseeing.

They were all from Malaysia, and they said they had climbed Mt. Kinabalu (4,095m) before. They were friendly guys and they rushed from one side to the other in the bus, which the bus driver did not like, They driver warned not to stand while the bus was in running, in Japanese. I interpreted it in English so that they could understand.

[Friendly Malaysian on bus,

We arrived at Subashiriguch Gogome at 1:30 pm. Mario and Bernardo had lunch at a lodge/restaurant there. (I had my lunch box in the bus.) Mario ate “oyakodon” while Bernardo ate “yakisoba.”

[Friendly Malaysians,

I wanted to start climbing ASAP because I worried about arrival time of the lodge at Hachigome. But in order to prevent altitude sickness, it would be better to spend a little time when we got off from the bus.

[At Subashiriguchi Gogome,

Actually they were much faster than I, once we began walking. We could enjoy seeing many alpine flora, such as monkshoods or wild berries. I especially liked wild berries because they were tasty.

When we reached at Shichigome (7th Station), it began to rain a little bit. They rain never became heavy, and it stopped raining when we reached at Hachigome.

[Arriving at Hachigome,

We could see rainbows and the shadow of Mt. Fuji. It was my first time to see the shadow of Mt. Fuji in the afternoon.

[The rainbow after rain,

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji,

The shadow looked like Mt. Fuji with smoke from the top of the mountain. I really liked this phenomena and took many pictures.

[At the trail near Edoya, 『

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji,

We arrived at the “Edoya” lodge at 6:30 pm. So, we could reach at our first destination taking about 4 hours.

[We arrived at "Edoya",

We had supper at 7 pm. They provided warm steamed rice and hamburger and curry. We had beer with the supper and we went to bed soon after the supper.

[Supper at the lodge,

It was rather crowded even it was September. It is because most of other lodges were closed. We slept together at a corner of the lodge. I slept between Bernardo and Mario just like a sandwich.

(Mt. Fuji)

[Mt. Fuji Subashiri Route,

[Gotemba Line train at Kozu ST,

[Friendly Malaysian on bus,

[At Subashiriguchi Gogome,

[Bernardo at the sign of 2000m, 標高2000mの地点にて、해발 2000m 지점에서]

[Above Nanagome,

[The rainbow after rain,

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji,

[Supper at the lodge,
