140909 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri 2nd Day (富士登山須走ルート第2日目 후지 등산 수바시리 루트 둘째 날)

140909 Climbing Mt. Fuji Subashiri 2nd Day

Date: Sep. 9, 2014 (Tue) Fine

Route: Hacchome “Edoya” – Kusushi Shrine – Kengamine (3776m) – Subashiriguchi Exit – Sunaharai Gogome – Subashiri Gogome Bus-Stop

Partners: Bernardo (from Mexico) and Mario (from Germany)

It was the 2nd day of my 6th hike to Mt. Fuji in 2014, We got up at 2 am and began walking up to the top of Mt. Fuji at 3 am.

I had my breakfast before the hike, but my guests seemed that they did not have much appetite, maybe they had slight mountain sickness?

Anyway, once we began walking, they were all right. The trail was not crowded at all, and we could walk smoothly to the top of the mountain.

It was the night of Super Moon. We had the beautiful full moon above our heads. To our surprise, we could see the shadow of Mt. Fuji caused by the Super Moon clearly. Again it was my first experience to see the shadow of Mt. Fuji by the moon!

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji by Super Moon,

It was not too windy that night. We could walk comfortably and we arrived at the top of Mt. Fuji (in front of Kusushi Shrine) before 5 am.

There are several lodges in front f Kusushi Shrine. But there was only “Oogiya” open that day. All other lodges were closed.

Also there were a few hikers at the observatory on the top of Mt. Fuji. We could sit at the bench in front of Oogiya.

But there were clouds in the direction of east that day. So we could not expect a beautiful sunrise. Therefore we gave up waiting for the sunrise at the observatory and began walking around the crater.

It is always difficult to climb up to Kengamine, the highest point around the crater. But while we were taking pictures at Kengamine, it began to clear the clouds and we could see “Kage Fuji” or the shadow of Mt. Fuji clearly.

We were really lucky, that we could see three different types of “Kage Fuji” at once. First, by the evening sun, the second, by Super Moon, and the third, by the morning sun!

We could see our own shadows on the rock around the crater, too.

I saw icicles hanging from the rock near the exit of “Ohachimeguri” to Subashiriguchi.

We enjoyed the down trail of Subashiri Route, too, since it is different from Yoshidaguchi Route. We could enjoy longer steps the down trail.

We went down to “Sunabarai Gogome” without much difficulties. When we arrived at “Sunabarai Gogome” we celebrated our hike with a can of beer for each, which Mario bought previous day.

We took 9:50 bus leaving Subashiriguchi Gogome Bus Stop and returned to Gotanda Station at 10:40. They took their luggage out of coin locker and we went to a coffee shop named “Fugetsu.”

There, they wanted to change their clothes, so I asked the coffee shop owner if we could use rest room to change the clothes.

She urged us to use the room upstairs. They were happy to use spacious room to change their clothes. I am happy that the owner (could be just a clerk, but I thought she was the owner of the shop) was so kind, showing the spirit of “Omotenashi” or hospitality of Japanese.

(Mt. Fuji)

[The shadow of Mt. Fuji by Super Moon,

[In front of Kusushi Shrine,

[On the top of Mt. Fuji,

[My guests in front of the crater,

[Bernardo at Kengamine,

[A group picture at Kengamine,

[Shadow of Mt. Fuji,

[In front of "Kagefuji", 『

[Our own shadow on the rock,

[Icicles around the crater,

[On the way down, 下山路にて、하산로에서]

[At "Sunabarai Gogome",

[Down trail near Gogome,

[The bus to Gotemba,

[A poster of Mt. Fuji,
