Rainy season in Korea is finally over. Now the summer hiking season has come.

Since the destination is far from Daejeon (200 km south east), AhToSan left South Gate Parking Lot at 6 am.

I went to the south gate by bicycle. When I arrived at Hanpat Arboretum, I noticed a lot of resurrection lilies were blooming.

These flowers are called “Natsu-zuisen” or “summer narcissus”in Japan, but in Korea, they are called “Sangsahwa” which means “Thinking-lover-flower.” I think Korean name is much romantic.

[Resurrection lilies near South Gate,

“Red spider lily” or “hurricane lily” is in the same family (genus), both originated from China, and their bulbs are poisonous.

AhToSan changed the bus again. The bus they chartered one week before was a red 37 seats bus. This time, a bit larger 44 seats white bus.

[The inside of the new chartered bus,

The driver was also different. The driver who drove 37 seat bus was young. I was surprised to see him drinking “makgeolli” at the wrap-up party. So, I should say he was not a qualified driver.

This time, the driver seemed much senior. He bought “Yakult” and “Tokk” or Korean rice cake for each member.

It seemed that AhToSan decided to provide a pack of bean-rice for breakfast every time. I like this new custom.

[The bus arrived at the destination,

Since we had two teams, A & B, we first took a group picture at 10:30 along the road.

[A group picture as the whole group,

Then A team members got off the bus, and began walking, while B team members stayed on the bus.

[Team A began to walk along the street, Aチームが道路沿いに歩き始めた。

I walked with A team members along the valley, until at the entrance of the trail. It was about 2 km downward street along the river.

[Touch me not, ツリフネソウ、물봉선]

It must be a famous place for playing in the river. There were many cars parking along the road. We arrived at the entrance of the trail at 11 am.

[We walked along the valley,

[We arrived at the foot of mountain at 11 am,

The first part of the trail was a steep slope. It was less then 20 minute walk, but I got exhausted. I had sharp pain in my shins.

However, when we reached on the ridge, Alain Delon called for “Suzuki Time,” I brought two boxes of grapes, and they ate them all.

["Suzuki Time" on the ridge,

Then I was almost left alone because everyone went ahead of me. J-nim kindly waited for me and gave me "Pocari Sweat" and encouraged me.

A couple of new members were also with me. They also encouraged me and shared their canned pineapple.

When we arrived at the place where the main group people were having lunch was 12:44. I ate my own lunch with J-nim, and the new comer couple.

[Lunch in the wood,

I put rice in my lunch box. I put instant miso-soup on the rice with “umeboshi” and add hot water. It turned out to be a nice bowl of “kuk-bap”or "soup with rice."

I also shared a Suntry Premium Beer with other members. J-nim brought a pack of oranges. It was fun to share food for lunch.

After lunch we resumed ridge-walk toward HyangRoBong. Again I became the last hiker.

My shins hurt me. Anyhow, I arrived at HyangRoBon and joined the main group at 13:42. I was the last hiker, but could be a member in a group picture.

[I joined the group at the summit,

There were many daylilies at around the summit of HyangRoBong. This flower was the best among other flowers of the day.

[Daylilies at the heliport,

I began descending, again as the last hiker. The president of AhToSan called me and asked me OK. He seemed to slow down his walking pace for me.

So, soon I caught up with him and J-nim, and another female member.

[At a crooked pine tree,

So we walked together for a while. Then the sky became dark and it began rain a bit with thunder.

[At "Thread Waterfall", 『

Fortunately, it stopped soon. We arrived at “Simyongri” at 14:50. We passed an unique place with a lot of rocks they call “Neodol Area너돌지대.”

[Rocky Area,

I saw a big toad along the trail. It moved slowly and went into the wood.

[A toad along the trail,

When I arrived at a point of "Valley Traverse," 3.8 km from HyangRoBong and 4.1 km to Bogyongsa Temple at 15:46.

That was the place where the nice view of the valley. There were waterfalls here and there.

When I passed the suspension bridge and took pictures of AhToSan members in the river was 16:14.

I did not enter the water pool or waterfall. But these members passed over me easily.

In spite of the pain in my shins, I climbed a rock on the cliff and took bird eye view of the pictures at 16:41, then I went down to the waterfall at 16:47.

[Looking down from the rock,

Final leg of the trail, I walked with J-nim. I took pictures of some new members at the temple.

I saw Ruchi in front of the Mountain Gate of Bogyongsa.

[The mountain gate of Bogyongsa,

There were shops and restaurant in front of the temple. I saw a cup of iced-juice by 2000 won. It tasted cold and very nice.

[Japanese style "Kagigori" or "slush",

I finally arrived at the parking lot at 17:49.

To my surprise, AhToSan members were sitting on nice tall stools at tall tables. Wow they upgraded the wrap-up party facilities!

[The upgraded wrap-up party,

KS couple were in charge of “wrap-up party” menu. They provided pig trotters and makgeolli. The new bus driver also provided peaches.

We ended the party at 6 pm and headed for Daejeon. But the bus driver proposed to stop at the beach of Tonghae (Sea of Japan).

We all were glad and enjoyed the sunset at the beach of Pohang.

We left the beach at 7 pm and arrived at Daejeon at 10 pm.

It was a long day, tired, but unforgettable day. It was my 39th hike of the year and as for AhToSan regular hike, it was my 321st hike.

[Resurrection lilies near South Gate,

[Red spider lilies or Hurricane lilies in Daejeon in Sep.,

[Resurrection lilies near South Gate,

[A pack of breakfast and tokk and yakult,

[The bus arrived at the destination,

[A group picture as the whole group,

[Rose of Sharon along the road,

[Team A began to walk along the street, Aチームが道路沿いに歩き始めた。

[We walked along the valley,

[We arrived at the foot of mountain at 11 am,

[The steep slope,

["Suzuki Time" on the ridge,

[Lunch in the wood,

[Recognition picture on the summit,

[A group picture at the heliport,

[Daylilies at the heliport,

[At a crooked pine tree,

[Rocky Area,

[A toad along the trail,

[The trail after "Valley Traverse"! 『

[AhToSan members in the river,

[Looking down from the rock,

[At the valley,

[At Bogyongsa Temple,

[The mountain gate of Bogyongsa,

[Japanese style "Kagigori" or "slush,"

[The upgraded wrap-up party,

[At Pohang Beach,

[The bus driver got rid of sands from each member,
