The first hike in Korea after a month vacation for me was BukBawiSan. It was not far from Daejeon, so we left the south gate bass stop at 7 am.

AhToSan chartered a new deluxe bus with 37 seats.

[The newly chartered bus,

The bus was full, no vacant seat. Two members on the waiting list, went by their own car.

AhToSan provided a pack of bean rice and dried sea-weed for breakfast, too. It was a pleasant surprise for me.

On the way, they celebrated the 100th hike for Ruchi and Minju with a cake with candles.

[We celebrated Minju's 100th hike,

There were two different courses proposed. A course is a 10 km hike and B course is a 5 km hike.

I took the easier course, B course hike with 15 other members.

Among A course, some people did not go to Bakchuibong, and made a short cut. They were C course members.

We arrived at Water-Mill Service Area at 9:30 am. 21 members of A (and C) courses got off there. The bus kept running for about one hour and arrived at Mweak Lodge at 10:30 am.

We had a group picture among B course members, and Yoyu called a shout “A-Toyoiln Sanekaja (Let’s go mountains on Saturday!)”

We walked a gentle uphill road for about 30 minutes, then began entering the woods.

After 11 am, we had “Suzuki Time” among B course members.

I noticed a yellow wild flower looked like Nikko Kisuge, or “Zenteika”or "Wasuregusa." In Korean language, it is called “Wanchuri.”

[Close to the ridge,

There were many mushrooms in the mountain as well as pine trees. Many of pine trees had scars on their trunks. They are the marks of Japanese colonial days. The Japanese military forces tried to gather resin oils from pine trees.

[Pine trees with scars,

It must be in 1944, so nearly 70 years ago. I was amazed the living power of those pine trees.

We arrived at the summit of BukBawiSan at 11:47, so it took only one hour and 10 minutes.

We had lunch after passing the summit of BukBawiSan.

[Lunch near the summit,

Then several fast hikers of A course came and joined us. Most of other members came after the fast hikers, but they did not join us. They kept going.

We enjoyed nice views of the mountains such as Yongbong of WolAkSan and other peaks. The weather on that day was changing quickly.

Sometimes, we had sun-shine, but then cloudy. We kept descending after the summit of BukBawiSan.

When I heard the sound of river, it began raining, but it stopped soon.

I arrived at Water-Mill Service Area at 2:50 pm. So it was about 3 hours and half hike as they planned.

Most of B course members went into the river and enjoyed bathing in the river.

Then C course members came and joined them.

The valley and the river must be a famous for bathing because there were many people there.

Finally, A course members came down at Water-Mill Service Area at 3:30 pm and the chartered bus tried to pick us up then.

[After the hike, after the rain,

The road was narrow and there was many cars. So the bus driver had hard time to arrive at the service area.

[Near the watermill,

The bus came at 4 pm and we moved to the place for the wrap-up party.

We stopped in front of the National Park Center and had the wrap-up party there.

We had “suyuk” or boiled pork, and makgeolli and water melon.

We wrapped up the party at 5 pm and went back to Daejeon.

On the way back to Daejeon, it began raining really hard.

[It rained cats and dogs in Daejeon,

I walked for about 20 meters from the place where the chartered bus stopped to the sheltered public bus stop, but I got soaking wet.

I took 606 bus to Shinseongdong. When the bus arrived at Shinseongdong, it stopped raining.

[A map for the hiking courses,

[Ruchi made a speech for his 100th hike,

[We began trail walk,

[Hemerocallis fulva, the Orange Daylily,

[Close to the ridge,

[Pine trees with scars,

[At the summit of BukBawiSan,

[Mountain peaks of WolAkSan National Park,

[Lunch near the summit,

[After lunch on a ridge,

[After lunch we began descending,

[On the descending trail,

[On the descending trail,

[After the hike, after the rain,

[Watermill,

[Beautiful flowers at Watermill(Lycoris squamigera or "resurrection lily"),

[Rose of Sharon、

[AhToSan members in the river,

[At the summit of BakChwiBong、

[A grasshopper on a Dahlia flower,

[Patrinia scabiosifolia or Ominaeshi in Japanese,

[It rained cats and dogs in Daejeon,
