One of my international hiking friends, Michael (German) visit Japan on business. He came to Kamakura with one of his Korean colleagues to see me.

I saw them at JR Ofuna Station at 9:50 and went to Kamakura with them. BG is a young gentleman who looks like my good friend in Daejeon, BJ. He has small kids, and wanted to buy some sightseeing gifts for them.
First, we walked through “Dankatsura” to Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine. “Dankatsura” was built duing “Kamakura Era (1185 – 1333)” when samurai began Shogunate regime.

There are rows of cherry trees along the Dankatsura. They were replanting these cherry trees, so we could not walk the promenade.

When we climbed the stone stairs to the shrine, I guided them to another small shrine beside the main shrine. It is called “Maruyama Inari-sha” and there were a pair of fox statutes. Foxes are regarded as the messengers of the god.

On the way back from the shrine to Kamakura Station, we walked through “Komachidori「小町通り」.” It is a kind of shopping street, and there are many small shops selling “omiyage” or snacks.

Michael enjoyed buying some snacks, and BG, his colleagues spent considerable time to choose “gifts” for his family, esp. for his daughters.

We took “Enoden” tram train at Kamakura Station and got off at Hase Station. I guided them to Great Buddha, and Hase Kannon.

We dropped in a music box store and I bought some music boxes for my Korean friends. BG also bought a music box as a gift.

Then we took Enoden tram again and got off at Enoshima Station. We took Shonan Monorail and went back to Ofuna.

We hurried “Yamaneko Restaurant” where my wife and her students were having lunch. We joined the party.

Michael and BG were very much welcomed by my wife and her students. They are mostly senior ladies, and love to speak English.
After having lunch, they still have time before taking a limousine to Haneda Airport. So I took them to Ofuna Kannon near Ofuna Station.

They took 15:50 bus to the airport. So the time was limited, but I hope they enjoyed this short sightseeing in Kamakura and Ofuna.

Next time, I would like to visit Michael in Germany.

韓国・テジョンに住んでいたころのドイツ人の山友達のミカエルとその同僚のBGさんが出張で来日し、その休暇時間に鎌倉・江の島を案内することになった。
我々は大船駅南口改札にて９:50に待ち合わせした。久しぶりにあうミカエルは職場の同僚で韓国人のBGさんと時間通り現れた。
まず、JR横須賀線で鎌倉へ向かい、段葛の脇の道を歩いて鶴岡八幡宮に案内した。(段葛は改修工事が始まっていて通れなかった。)

鎌倉案内において鶴岡八幡宮へ最初に案内するのはごく典型的なコースでどのように案内するかはゲストの反応次第で決める。

若宮宮の舞殿の鶴岡八幡宮の左隣の稲荷(丸山稲荷社)へ連れてゆくと、ミカエルは狐の像にエプロンがかけてあったのに興味を示した。神社の門衛のような1対の狐のが面白いようだ。

鶴岡八幡宮から鎌倉駅へ戻るのに小町通りを歩いたのは正解で、団子などのスナックを買い食いするのが楽しかったようだ。

BGは、家族、特に娘の土産に招き猫の人形を頼まれたらしく、かなり時間をかけて選んでいた。

ようやく土産を買ってから、江ノ電で長谷へ向かい、お決まりのコースで大仏と長谷観音を案内した。

長谷観音の見学ののち、オルゴール堂で次回、私が訪韓した時に、韓国の友人たちに贈るオルゴールを３つ買った。BGも１つ買った。

その後、江ノ電で江ノ島駅まで行き、モノレールで大船に戻り、妻とその英語クラスの女性たちが待つ山猫レストランへ向かった。

彼女らはコース定食で我々は和食定食だった。一応英語を学んでいる教え子たちなので、生の英語の練習ができてよかったようだ。

また、ミカエルやKSは日本人たちとじかに話ができてよかったようだった。
食事が終わっても3時前で、羽田行きのバスの出発まで時間があったので、大船観音へ連れて行った。
大船観音はずいぶん久しぶりだったが、入場料が300円とは高いと思う。
同じ入場料の長谷寺に比べればみるべきものは10分の１ぐらいなのだから料金は150円ぐらいが適当だろうと思った。

ただ、最近、鎌倉市民である私には特典があることを知った。それは市内の65歳以上の老人に配布されている「福寿手帳」を見せると、拝観料が無料になることだ。これは市内の大部分の観光名所(長谷観音、大仏)で通用するし、大船観音も例外ではない。
さて、我々は本日最後の観光を終え、大船駅の空港行きリムジンバスのバス停に向かった。羽田行きのバスは毎時20分と50分があり、彼らは予定した16:20の1本前の15:50のバスで空港に向かった。
ミカエルはドイツ土産のアドベントカレンダーやドイツからわざわざ持参してくれたドイツ製瓶ビールをくれた。

彼の母国、ドイツも近い将来、ぜひ訪問してみたいものだ。[注：この夢は2015年8月に実現した。]
