"Status quo of COVIT-19 infection in NSW and extension of lockdown"

As of July 30, 2021, the cumulative number of infected people in Australia is 33,730 and the death toll is 923. The problem is that the number of newly infected people has not decreased at all even though the lockdown is strengthened, but rather the day before yesterday recorded the peak of 247 people. (Of which, NSW has 239 people, accounting for 96.7%.)

[Cumulative number of infected people in Australia、

Moreover, vaccination is currently only about 40% of the total population over the age of 18 (those who completed the second vaccination is18%.)

[Number of new infections,(last 2 weeks),

Under these circumstances, I finished the second vaccination with the AZ vaccine on the 9th of July, and my wife also finished the first vaccination on the 21 of July.
[COVID-19 digital certificate,

The lockdown this time is quite thorough, and not only restaurants/eateries but also shops other than those which deal with daily necessities are closed. We can not go beyount 5 km no matter the purpose is, and even for exercise, only up to two people can go together, unless you are the same family members.

I live in a share house, but the weekly cleaning service is also disallowed.

The last group trekking I participated in was the Wentworth Falls trek on July 3rd, the day the lockdown was strengthened, and group activities and travel over 5km were banned from 12:00 pm that day.

From the next week until today, I cannot go trekking with my friends and this situation seems to go on one more month. It is hard for me.

"Wentworth Falls trek before strengthening lockdown"

Lockdown had already begun before Saturday, July 3, but the number of people who could go together was up to 10. And we could go to the Blue Mountains area then. So, Joe Song, a member of Saturday Hikers, called for the trek to Wentworth Falls that day.

[My Korean trekking friends at Weeping Rock,

In addition to Joe, the participants of the day were Mr. Lim, Korean missionary Rev. Kim, and Joe's friend Mr. Lee, who joined for the first time on the day, and myself. Another regular member, Isaac, was absent.

[At the 2nd bottom of Wentworth Falls,

Wentworth Falls is the largest of the three major Blue Mountain Falls, Katoomba Falls and Leura Cascade, and is the largest of its size. Wentworth Falls has 3 stages; the first, second and third tiers.

We went down the steep stone stairs to the second stage frist. Then we went on National Track and went down through the slacks stairs, to the bottom of the third stage.

[Rev. Kim at the slacks stairs,

From there, we took a track at the bottom of the valley called "Wentworth Pass" toward Emperes Falls, crossed several creeks downstream of the waterfalls, and had lunch near Emperes Falls.

At Emperes Falls, young people use robes to descend the waterfalls. It will be cold at 5 degrees Celsius or less at this time of year, but it will be okay if they wear wet suits.

[Near the Empress Falls,

The trail from Emperes Falls to Conservation Hut has recently undergone a major refurbishment, making it a pleasing track.

Conservation Hut is a restaurant with a panoramic view of the valley, but we have never used it because we always have our own lunch box.

The trail from Conservation Hat to Wentworth Falls Station is rather flat and about a 30-minute walk. My daily walking distance on this day was 15.6km, the number of steps was 24,530, and the number of floors was 69.

"Trekking alone in Lane Cove National Park"

Lane Cove National Park is on the Chatswood West side, where my eldest son's family lives, less than 2km from the national park. So when I was living with them, I used to go there many times a week.

After that, when I got to know The Great North Walk, I became to know that the third to fifth sections of this 260km track were in this national park.

The share house I currently live in is on the east side of Chatswood Station and takes about an hour to access.

On Saturday, July 10th, when lockdown regulations were tightened, I walked alone on the fourth section of the Great North Walk, and on my way back, I walked on the riverside walk across the Lane Cove River.

Along the way, I met many people walking and running in the park for exercise. All follow the regulations and walk alone or with two people, but in the case of a family, three or more people are allowed.

On this day, after leaving the share-house in the Chatswood East, I crossed the Pacific Highway via Chatswood Station and headed for the trackhead at Ferndale Park.

This track is "Rail to River" track from Chatswood Station to the Lane Cove River, the trail I walk almost every morning.

Upon arriving at the Lane Cove River, I entered the "The Great North Walk" track. At the entrance to the park is a guide post of The Great North Walk. "It is 18km from Sydney Cove and 3.2km to Magdala Park (the end of the 2nd section)".

[Guide Post of the Great North Walk,

When you enter the park, there is a gentle hill, and above that there is a park office and a cafe. Before the lockdown, the Bilbe study group which I belong, used to hold Bible every Wednesday morning.

When you pass this cafe, you will find the entrance to the bushwalk track and another guide guide post, which shows the distance to the destinations of the course in the park as below.

- Fiddens Walf Oval 1.7 km
- Blue Hole 4 km
- DeBurghs Bridge 4.2 km
- Thornleigh Oval 11 km
- Lane Cove River weir via GNW/Riverside Walk 9.3 km
[The Lane Cove River,

This solo trekking was a course that took GNW # 4 to the DeBurghs Bridge, crossed the bridge to the opposite bank of the Lane Cove River, and went along Riverside Walk to the weir (dam.)

[At DeBurghs Bridge,

The total walking distance per day was 24.1km, the total number of steps was 34,186, and the total number of floors was 44. The horizontal direction was long and the vertical direction was less momentum than regular Blue Mountains trekking.

In any case, I hope the pandemic will be settled sooner and the day of free trekking with friends on the Blue Mountains will return as soon as possible.

[Cumulative number of infected people in Australia、

[Trends in NSW Infections (Last 2 Weeks),NSW州の新規感染者数の推移(過去2週間)、NSW 주 신규 감염자 수의 추이 (지난 2 주)]

[COVID-19 digital certificate,

[A distant view of Wentworth Falls,

[At the bottom of Wentworth Falls,

[Mr. Lee at the slacks stairs,

[Near the Empress Falls,

[At the Lane Cove Natioanl Park,

[Guide Post of the Great North Walk,

SR # 36 "Sydney Lockdown Again" "Grandchild's 21st Birthday Event and the 51st Wedding Anniversary" "Castle Head on the Narrow Neck Peninsula Again"

" Sydney Lockdown Again"

As of June 28, the cumulative number of people infected with the new corona virus in Australia is 30,343 and the death toll is 907. The total number of infected people was 29,663 and the death toll was 910 on May 6, which was reported in the previous SR # 34.

[Confirmed cases, cumulative coun,

The negative number of deaths is a statistical problem, with the increase in the number of infected people being 680 in 53 days. The problem is the increase in the number of infected people in the city.

For the past three months, the number of infected people in the state of NSW has been zero, but on June 16th, a limousine bus driver carrying international flight crews was positive in the city. Since it was discovered, the number of infected people has begun to increase, from 2-3 two weeks ago to 20-30 in recent days.

[Daily New Cases in past 14 days,

The NSW government has declared a blockade of cities, including the Chatswood (where we live) and Blue Mountains areas, for two weeks from 6 pm on June 26 to midnight on July 9. The main points of the stay-at-home order are;

1. You are not allowed to go out for any reason other than the following essential reasons.

(1) Indispensable shopping such as food

(2) Medical care and compassionate reasons (including new coronavirus vaccination)

(3) Outdoor exercise (10 people or less)

(4) Indispensable commuting to work / school

2. The regulations during the same period have been announced as follows.

(1) Community sports are prohibited during the above period

(2) Weddings are prohibited from 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 27

(3) Funerals are subject to the 4-square meter rule, and the number of people is limited to 100 or less. Mandatory wearing a mask when performing indoors

What surprised me most was the ban on weddings. All scheduled events have been canceled or postponed. All restaurants can provide only take-out, the church returned to zoom services, public facilities are closed, Japanese association Taichi gatherings, ukulele concerts, and bible classes are cancelled.

However, with the strong government leadership, we hope that the containment of the mutant strain of Corona virus will be successful and that the closure will be successfully lifted in two weeks later.

"Grandchild's 21st Birthday Event and 51st Wedding Anniversary"

Our eldest son and his wife are blessed with children and have three daughters and one son. The eldest daughter turned 21 this year. Her birthday party was held at a Singapore restaurant in our neighborhood.

[Singaporean Restaurant Haidailao Hot Pot,

Our granddaughter has a steady since junior high school, and it is a dinner party with her boyfriend. Fortunately, there was a time limit of one hour at the event before the lockdown declaration, but we enjoyed it.

[Birthday Party for our oldest granddaugher,

The food is a "hot pot", which is like a Singaporean style "shabu-shabu". If you make a special order, the cook will come to your table and give you a performance of spinning udon noodles.

[The cook's performance at our table,

Our 7-year-old granddaughter's favorite was a speaking robot that carried food and empty dishes while going back and forth among tables.

June 28, four days after this event, was the 51st anniversary of our marriage. I made a reservation at a Japanese restaurant that I don't usually go. I tried to use the voucher distributed by the NSW state government to residents, but during this time there was a lockout declaration and we could not eat in.

[Our 51st Anniversary at the share house,

We had no choice but to take out the dishes and celebrate at the dining room of the share house just like last year.

"Castle Head on the Neck Peninsula Again"

The Narrow Neck Peninsula is a plateau on a cliff that can be seen on the opposite side of the "Three Sisters" from the famous Echo Point Lookout in Katoomba.

The reason why it is called a peninsula is probably that it looks a peninsula that protrudes in the sea-like Jamison Valley.

I walked on The Narrow Neck Truck twice in March. At that time, I walked looking for the "pink flannel flowers" that bloomed after the bush fire.

I also walked on this track twice this month. The first (June 11th) was the day after it snowed on the Blue Mountains, and there was still snow on Katoomba.

[The snow remained in Katoomba,

[Snow capped Blue Mountains,

On that day, I turned back about 6km away from the locked gate, trying to reach Clear Hill, which is 9.5km away from the gate. In fact, if I walk 9.5km one way, it will be 19km round trip. Including access to the truck head, it easily exceeds 20km, which is impossible at this time of the year.

[The Narrow Neck Track with traces of wildfire,

So I thought that it would be good to go down the Golden Stairs in front of the Narrow Neck Track, to the Federal Pass, and walk back to Katoomba.

[At the entrance of Golden Stairs,

However, when I came to Golden Stairs with four Saturday hikers, I found that the road to Katoomba was closed.

[A part of the track is closed,

So we had no choice but to walk to "Castle Head" again. On this day (June 26th), the wind blew very strong as it was in March.

However, trekking with friends is fun. Especially for one of them, Isaac was his first tiem to walk on this track, so he must love it.

[Isaac on the Narrow Neck Track,

Last time when I walked the Castle Head Track, it was muddy track from the Narrow Neck Track. But this time, I found the track up-graded after construction work, thanks for the conservation effort of NSW government.

[Jamison Valley as seen from Castle Head,

The area was damaged by a large wildfire from 2019 to 2020, and you can see many trees regenerating with sprouts from the burnt trunk along with the burned trees.

Castle Head is a dead-end cliff, from which you can see the Mount Solitary directly in front of you, and the Ruined Castle we climbed into the forest that leads to it.

[At Castle Head,

Everyone took pictures at such a superb view point, but the wind was strong and it was a bit risky to stay there for a long time. We quickly withdrew from the dangerous zone. We found a place where the wind was not too strong, and we had lunch there.

The walking distance on that day was 16.4km, the number of steps was 25.952, and the number of floors I climbed was 102.

The Sydney expanded metropolitan area, the Blue Mountains Area, etc. were locked down at 6 pm that day.

[Confirmed cases, cumulative coun,

[Daily New Cases in past 14 days,

[Birthday Party for our oldest granddaugher,

[A group picture after the party,

[Our 51st Anniversary at the share house,

[The "Yakiniku Bento" we took out, テイクアウトした焼肉弁当、테이크 아웃 한 불고기 도시락]

[The snow remained in Katoomba,

[Snow capped Blue Mountains,

[The Narrow Neck Track with traces of wildfire,

[At the entrance of Golden Stairs,

[A part of the track is closed,

[Isaac at Castle Head Track,

[At Castle Head with Saturday Hikers,

"A Beatles Song & Total Lunar Eclipse in Sydney

On the night of May 26th, I participated in the ukulele concert held at the nearby Dougherty Community Center once a month. This month's theme was "Beatlemania! BUSK, The Beatles Night" and I requested "When I am Sixty-Four". I used to sing this song as "a monthly song" at the Kamakura English Club in late1970s.

“When I'm Sixty-Four" by The Beatles

When I get older losing my hair

Many years from now

Will you still be sending me a valentine

Birthday greetings, bottle of wine?

If I'd been out till quarter to three

Would you lock the door?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me

When I'm sixty-four?

You'll be older too

And if you say the word

I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse

When your lights have gone

You can knit a sweater by the fireside

Sunday mornings go for a ride

Doing the garden, digging the weeds

Who could ask for more?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me

When I'm sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight

If it's not too dear

We shall scrimp and save

Grandchildren on your knee

Vera, Chuck and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line

Stating point of view

Indicate precisely what you mean to say

Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form

Mine forevermore

Will you still need me, will you still feed me

When I'm sixty-four?

Ho!

Steve, the organizer, nominated me to sing, but I don't have the courage or skill to sing while playing the ukulele. I asked an advanced player to sing, and I sang in a soft voice and played only the chords that I could play.

[At Dougherty Community Center、

The melody of "When I am Sixty-Four" is light, and I thought the lyrics were in the distant future for me at that time, but I will be 74 years old this year!

[The Super Moon on the shared house,

When I returned to the share house with a melancholic feeling, there was the super moon above our room where the lunar eclipse had already begun.

[My wife and neighbors looking up the sky,

My wife has a backache, so it is difficult to look up at the sky. However, this time was 20:30, and the moon was still above the east. Both of us have never experienced such a clear lunar eclipse.

[The total eclipse of the moon,

We talked to the neighbors of the share house and watched this sky show together. The "total lunar eclipse", in which the moon completely falls in the shadow of the earth, lasted for about 20 minutes from around 21:30, and we enjoyed the mystery of universe while remembering the creator who created this beautiful cosmic order.

"Sydney Gulf Trekking Part II"

I introduced 5 sections of Sydney Gulf trekking in SR # 34. This time, I will introduce the following two sections.

"# 6 From Manly Beach to Dobroyd Head"

Date and time: April 30, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Departure point: Manley beach, ferry terminal

Destination: Dobroyd Head in North Harbor

In the morning, there was a guided bushwalk sponsored by the City of Willoughby, and I walked through Chatswood's Blue Gum Reserve from 9:30 to 12:00.

[Bush-walk with a guide,

After returning to the share house and having lunch, I immediately went to the bus stop in front of the station and took the # 144 bus to Manly. The bus departed at 13:00 and arrived at Manly at 13; 50.

My bushwalk mentor, Chang, arrived at 14:00 on a ferry from the Olympic Park. It takes him two hours from the Olympic Park.

Manly Ferry Wharf is quite large. A sales clerk was handing out ice cream tasting samples. There was a small art gallery on the outskirts of the beach in the direction of trekking and there was a functionally designed toilet with shower rooms.

[A toilet house at Manly Beach,

There was a sign of "Manly-Bondi Walk" next to the art gallery, and it was a course that walked alternately on the road and the coastal promenade.

There are many trail runners on the coast. Also, there are many luxurious apartments. There was a place where a huge rock and a tree were entwined on the way, and a thick rope was hanging from the branch of the tree, and it was possible to play Tarzan.

Chang got on the rope. He has a child-mind.

[Chang playing Tarzan,

We walked for about two hours and took a break on the beach with the "No Nude" sign. I took out a tapper containing persimmons that I got from Chan last time and put purple potatoes in it and we shared them. Chang gave me hard persimmons this time. They are astringent persimmons that turn into sweet persimmons when ripe.

Australian magpies and a water dragon are begging for the potato skins we throw away.

[An Australian magpie,

For some reason, the facility connecting this coast and the promenade was permanently struck by crossbars, making it impassable, so we rowed bushes without roads and went out to the promenade.

[A view from the truck near the destination,

Closely ahead of this beach was Dobroyd Head, the final destination of the walk, where there was a large field for children to play. Here, Chang asked the residents for the location of the nearest bus stop and we boarded from the bus stop in front of the tennis court.

We got off at the town of the bus route between Manley and Chatswood. I broke up here with Chang, took the # 170X express bus to the City to Wynyard, and took the train back to Chatswood. During this time the sun set. I have finished a long trekking day.

The daily walking distance was 16.6km, the number of steps was 27,173, and the number of floors was 37.

"# 7 From Spit to Dobroyd Head"

Date and time: May 14, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Departure: Spit West Reserve

Destination: Dobroyd Head in North Harbor

I took # 144 bus from the bus stop in front of Chatswood station. I told the driver to let me off at Spit West Reserve. I arrived at 13:30 in about 45 minutes.

It was very windy, but I ate lunch on a bench with a table and waited for Chang. He arrived at 2 o'clock.

We started trekking from the reserve across the Spit Bridge.

[The Spit Bridge on regular time, 平時のスピット・ブリッジ、평상시의 스핏 브리지]

This bridge opens several times a day for tall vessels. Just at that time, I heard the horn, then, the bridge was gradually opening, and the ships passed by.

[When the bridge is open,

On the trekking course, rocky areas and sandpits appear alternately. We went off the well-maintained trekking course and took a break along the rocks where we could see the opposite bank.

[Epacrips flowers along the truck,

I shared my usual roasted sweet potato with him. He gave me two fine persimmons following the last time. I was told that I should wait for a few weeks because it is not ripe yet.

After passing this rocky area, we climbed the rocky area and entered the promenade of the regular route. We continued trekking for about two hours and arrived at Dobroyd Head, the same destination as last time.

[At Dpbroyd Head,

As before, we crossed a large field and headed for the bus stop beyond the tennis court. However, this time we headed to Manley Beach in the opposite direction of the last time.

This judgment is correct. There are # 144 buses from Manley Beach to Chatswood every 10 minutes, and Chang took a ferry to the Olympic Park. I sent a photo of the Spit Bridge by Kakao-Talk and he sent me a photo of the Harbor Bridge at sunset.

I arrived at the share house near 6 o'clock.

The walking distance on that day was 14.9km, the number of steps was 24,595, and the number of floors was 45.

"Coxs Cave Truck in Mount Victoria"

Dates: May 17 for independent preview, May 29 with Saturday Hikers

I went halfway through the Coxs Cave Circuit Track two years ago when I walked alone on some of Mount Victoria's tracks.

However, at that time I went to the Fairy Bower Track, which was blocked at the fork, and for me this circuit course was an unfinished course. Last month, I saw Miss K uploaded a photo of the iron ladder in front of the cave on Facebook, and I was interested in it, so I went there for the first time in two years.

Mount Piddington, where the track-head of this circuit is located, is about 2 km from Mount Victoria Station. Last July, I came to this place after walking along the Little Zigzag Circuit in Pulpit Rock with my fellow "Saturday Hikers".

[At Mt. Piddington Lookout,

Between Victoria Station and Mount Pidington is One Three Hill (1,111m above sea level), the highest altitude in the Blue Mountains area. This time, we headed for Mount Pidington, saw the magnificent scenery at this observatory, and then walked on the Cox Cave circuit track. The companions are Isaac and Rev. Kim. This time, we accompanied a Korean group of four, going in the same direction to Coxs Cave.

There is a car-accessible paved road to Mount Pidington, with a roundabout around the observatory.

We climb the observatory from the One Three Hill side and the truck entrance is on the other side. When we go down a few tens of meters from the entrance, there are arrows in both left and right directions, and down the left side, there is a waterfall hidden in a large rock.

Below this waterfall is a junction with the direction of Fairy Bower. The wooden bridge to Fairy Bower is decaying and is closed to traffic (it was the same two years ago).

If you turn right at the junction, you will find another fork further down the valley, and there is no sign here, but if you climb a little uphill on the right side, you will see the iron ladder and it says "Coxs Cave". There is a good sign.

[The iron ladder below Coxs Cave,

When we put our backpacks at this sign and climb the ladder, there is a trail that continues up, and Cox Cave is up the sloping mud slope. There is a small board with the words "Cox Cave" on the wall of the cave, and the eaves-shaped rock on the left side is the observatory. After that, there was a dead end, and after enjoying the view, we turned back.

[At the inside of Coxs Cave,

We returned to the ladder and climbed a steep truck for about 30 minutes with backpacks. Then we returned to the left and right branch point. The time we returned to Mount Pidington's observatory was 12:40, so it's just a two-hour trek. The group of four who accompanied so far, continued trekking toward Pulpit Rock.

I had lunch at Mount Piddington's table with my "Saturday Hikers" buddies.

I had a KEC (Kamakura English Association) zoom meeting scheduled for this day, so I broke up with my friends and took the train at Victoria Station at 14:18 to return.

[A carp streamer I saw in Mt. Victoria,

The two who accompanied me so far continued trekking in the direction of Palpit Rock, like the quartet.

[Autumm colors at Mount Victoria,

My walking distance on this day was 11.2km, the number of steps was 17,984, and the number of floors was 49, which was light for trekking in the Blue Mountains.

[At Dougherty Community Center、

「When I am Sixty-Four」

[The Super Moon on the shared house,

[My wife and a neighbor looking up the sky,

[Bush-walk with a guide,

[Art Gelary at Manly Beach,

[Taking rest at a beach,

[A eastern waterdragon,

[At Dpbroyd Head, the destionation,

[The bridge opening schedule,

[When the bridge is open,

[A flunnel flower along the truck,

[At Mt. Piddington Lookout,

[The iron ladder below Coxs Cave,
