I was stimulated by Holy Spirit, and could not sleep well. I kept praying at night and even in the morning. Since I prayed in voice, I was afraid that my wife could not sleep well. Since he was the solo driver for the day, I also prayed that she had a good sleep.

As I promised Shigeko, we got out of the hotel at 5 am and went out in the town for a morning walk. Shegeko walked very fast. We stopped at the gate of a castle-like building. When I asked a guard who happened to come out of the gate for permission to take a photo, he kindly opened the gate and encouraged us to go inside the gate.

Shigeko and I returned to the hotel room before 7 and we all checked out at 7 am. We hit the road in the glow of the sunrise.

When it became one hour after we began driving, we felt hungry and dropped in a fast-food restaurant along the road. It was a nice breakfast.

First, we drove through stock farms. We stopped at one of sheep farms and saw herds of sheep.

Then we came into the roads in the woods. It tooked like a jangle. Then Hajime made a phone call to the smartphone which Kikko was using as a navigator.

He monitored our location and noticed that we had been driving in the woods, not along the beach (Ocean Road). My wife adjusted her directin and we headed for Appolo Bay.

At last we came out to the beach at 10:40 am. It was a beautiful white sand beach. We took several pictures there, and drove along Otway Coast.

We arrived at the coast from where we could see two big rocks in the sea. They are a part of “Twelve Apostles.”

Then we drove into the woods again and stopped at a small restaurant from which we could see a small cove. That restaurant was a post office for the villege. We bought some postcards as well as stamps there.

We had pumpkin soup and pizza at the restaurant. The soup was good and warm but pizza was a bit too small and thin.

It began raining a little bit. After having a short break, we arrived at the main part of “Twelve Apostiles”

They were a group of beautiful rocks in the sea. The rocks are constantly being eroded by the waves. So I could not count 12 rocks and the scens are different from the pictures of postcard which I bought at the restaurant/post office one hour ago.

We spent more than one hour and walked along the seashores. It was well facilitated by wooden trails and there was even a heliport for sightseers.

After having sightseeing at Twelve Apostles, we decided to head to the airport. On our way to the airport, we came to a small town with the population of a few thousands.

There, we dropped in a nice restaurant named “Waves.”　We ordered special menue of the day “300 sirloin steak” and “Fresh Tasmanian Oyster.”

They tasted good and also enough volume. The ladies also ordered bottles of local beer. That was the last main event in Victoria and we headed for the Avon Airport.

Hajime and Louise came to see us at Sydney Airport. They picked us and drove to NBL first, then went to Chatswood, their home.

前夜、霊的に刺激を受け、ほとんど眠れなかった。深夜も早朝も声に出して祈ったため、同室の喜久子もほとんど眠れなかったのではと危惧した。

5時前に起床し、6時には小林さんとホテルを出て、キングスドメインまで歩いた。途中、お城のような建物があったので写真を撮ろうとすると、ちょうど中から出てきた制服の男性が、門を開けて中に入って撮影して良いと言う。どうも高校の建物だったようだ。

我々は7時ごろミント・アパートをチェックアウトして朝焼けの空を見ながらオーシャンロードのドライブに出発した。

出発してから約1時間後、朝食を提供しているファーストレストランに入り、朝食をとった。

その後は牧場また牧場の風景。羊の牧場の１つに車を停め、羊の群れを眺めた。

Then we came やがて、車は森林地帯に入り、海は見えない。すると肇からナビ中のスマホに着信あり。どうもこちらの現在位置が彼にはわかるらしい。彼が喜久子に教えたルートとちがう道を走っているため、心配しての連絡だった。

結局、アポロベイを目指して進み、無事、海岸に出た。

きれいな砂浜でしばらく写真撮影休憩。Otway Coast海岸沿いに走り、昼ごろ十二使徒のうち２つの岩が見える海岸に出た。

その後、ふたたび森林地帯に入り、入り江の見える丘の郵便局を兼ねた食堂で小休止。ここで絵葉書や切手を買い、パンプキンスープとピザを注文した。

このころ小雨が降りだした。そこから十二使徒海岸までは15分ほどで、ここがこの日のメインプレイス。海岸に沿った岸壁上にできている遊歩道を写真を撮りながら歩いた。

ここでは約1時間ほど費やし、ゆっくり写真撮影もした。海岸に沿って歩きやすい木道が整備され、付近には観光用のヘリコプターを飛ばすヘリポートもあった。

このでの観光後、後は早めに空港へ向かうことにした。途中、人口数千人の町に入り、「ウェイブス」というレストランに入り、その日の特別メニューの昼食を注文した。

すなわち300gのサロイン・ステークとタスマニア・オイスターだ。女性陣はこれに地ビールも注文した。質・量ともに満足するディナーとなった。

空港へは18:00頃到着し、帰りの便はせかされることなく余裕で搭乗した。シドニーへ戻ったのは10時ごろで、肇とルイースが夫婦で出迎え、我々をピックアップしてNBLへ立ち寄り、チャッツウッドへ向かった。

グレート・オーシャン・ロード（Great Ocean Road）はオーストラリア南東、ビクトリア州沿岸に走る道路（ジーロング 〜ウォーナンブール間）、建設は第一次・第二次世界大戦間の大恐慌の時期に帰還兵の仕事に政府が計画した。

全てつるはし、シャベル、ダイナマイトを使って人力で16年かかって完成した。

バス海峡とインド洋の最高に美しい景色が楽しめる。 十二使徒、ロンドン・アーチ を含む素晴らしい自然岩の景観が楽しめる。ピーターバロにビジターセンターが作られた。

速度制限は場所によって 80km/h から 100km/h だが、多くの場所で急なカーブがあり制限速度まで届かない。 2車線（片側1車線）道路、左側通行。

Melbourne is the 2nd largest city after Sydney in Australia (the population of Melbourne Metropolitan area is about 4.08 million as of June 2010), yet it was my first visit of the sity.

Hajime bought tickets (Sydney – Abaron) on the net and he sent us to the airport in the morning of July 11.

The departure time was 7 am, and we barely made it at 6:55 on board.

Four of us got seats all together, but my seat was not “window” seat. So, I read a book named “Aino Kisai (愛の鬼才)” or “Genius of Love” written by Miura Ayako.

My wife happened to recommend to read the book because one of her Christian friends recommended.

The book is non-fiction life history of Kyuzo Nishimura (1898 – 1953). I began reading this book before the trip. But I read the part of the book which touched upon “abstention from drink.”

I felt God’s voice through this book, and could not help but crying on the board.

I realized my sinful nature and tendancy, and began praying seriously to Jesus to help me not to sin, especially by tongue. (My son is a good model not to sin by tongue.)

We arrived at Abaron Airport at 8:30 am, and we could rent a car at the airport.

Hajime let my wife to use his smartphone for car-navigation and communication tool. But my wife was not get used to use a smart-phone, so she called his son at his office.

My son patiently instructed my wife how to use the smartphone as a navigator. I was again very much impressed by his patience.

My wife struggled with the smartphone for about an hour, then finally it worked. She could put the date into the navigation and drove easily to the town of Melbourne.

The next problem was the reservation sheet my son gave to her. She remembered the name of the hotel as “Mint Melbourne” but we could not find such a hotel.

One of three ladies, S was keen on directions and she pleaded that she saw a building with the sign of “M.”

I checked it and found it as “Mint Resort Appartment” not “Mint Melbourne.” Actually it was the hotel my son reserved.

So we could check in at 2 p.m. It was still before noon. So we dropped in a nearby restaurant and had “branch” there.

Then we had a kind of sightseeing by driving in the city. My wife drove the car along the rail of tramcars.

We went around the city twice, then we saw a big green part of King’s Domain.

My wife parked in the park while rest of us made a quick sightseeing.

The first thing we noticed was a statute of a nurse. It was a statute of Edith Cavell (1865 -1915)

I checked about her by internet and found out as below: Edith Louisa Cavell was a British nurse and patriot. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from all sides without distinction and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during World War I, for which she was arrested. She was subsequently court-martialled, found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad. Her execution received worldwide condemnation and extensive press coverage.

Thus we visited the residence of Governor of Victoria, the Shrine of Rememberance, etc.

After having a quick sightseeing, we checked in the hotel at 2 p.m.

Then all ladies went out for shopping while I stayed in the hotel.

When all ladies came back from shopping, we had a little party in the hotel.

I used to like drinking very much. But I prayed not to commit sin, then my appitite for achohole was gone. Strangely I did not get thirsty for any kind of alchohole.

At the dinner table, I confessed my sin to all ladies including my wife that night.

Spiritually I got very much excited, and could not sleep. I uttered my prayers until late at night. I was afraid that I bothered my wife’s sleep too much that night.

メルボルンはシドニーに次ぐオーストラリア第2の都市(都市圏人口約408万人)だが、私は今回初めて訪問した。

息子にあらかじめ航空券(シドニー・アバロン間)の購入を依頼したが往路は朝7時の便で59ドル、復路は20:45の便で99ドルだった(ジェットスター)。

この日の行動はチャッツウッドの息子が5時前に起床して我々を乗せ、彼の車でNBLで客人2人をピックアップし、シドニー空港へ送ってくれた。

空港でのセルフチェックインを息子がしてくれて即セキュリティを受け、息子は搭乗口まで見送ってくれたが、出発5分前のファイナルコールにぎりぎりに間に合った。

乗務員からは「次回からはもっと早く搭乗するように」と注意される始末。しかし、ぎりぎりに搭乗が間に合って感謝。

機内ではウィンドー席はとれず、三浦綾子の「愛の鬼才」の読書に集中した。読み進むうち、自分の罪深さに思い至り、特に禁酒運動のところで感情移入してしまい、ひとしきり泣いてしまった。

ジェット機は予定通り8時半に着陸。レンタカーも無事に手続きを終え(側面と後部に引っかき傷があったので写真を撮り、カウンターのBenに確認を取ったが、チェックするわけでもなくオージーのやり方は大雑把)。

いざ、空港を出ようとすると、妻が息子から借りたスマホのナビの使い方が分からない。小一時間、悪戦苦闘した結果、職場で仕事中の息子に電話して助けを求めた。

私に輪をかけて機械音痴の妻は単純な操作もうまくいかない。息子が辛抱強く、冷静に状況を把握して適切な指示をする。その姿にもキリスト者として見習うべき態度をみて感動した。

空港からメルボルン市内の宿泊施設、Mint Melborneまではナビのおかげですんなりと行けたが、肝心のホテルの名前を書いた予約確認書がすぐに出ない。

『ミント』をたよりに周辺を探すとSさんがMという字をみたと言うのでその建物をみた。するとMint Molborneではなく、Mint Resort Apartmentとなっている。

フロントで確認すると間違いなく予約が入っていた。この時刻がほぼ11時だったが、チェックインは午後2時からで駐車場も満杯だと言う。

やむを得ず、路上のコイン駐車(1時間3ドル)をして、隣のホテルでブランチを食べた。

その後、メルボルン市内を路面電車の路線に沿ってぐるぐると2周した。

車で廻っているうちに目についた市内の公園地域に車を停め、花の多い公園を散歩した。最初に目についたものが白いナースの銅像でEdith Cavell, Oct. 12, 1915とあった。

ネットで調べると、エディス・カベル(1856年12月4日～1915年10月12日)は英国の看護師であり人道主義者。第1次世界大戦中、ベルギーを占領したドイツから脱出した約200人の連合国軍人を助けたことで有名で、彼女はドイツ軍によって死刑に処された。

さて、この公園はロイヤルドメインであって、邸宅はヴィクトリア州知事の邸宅で、すぐ隣は王立植物園と大きなThe Shrine of Rememberanceがあった。

後者は壁面に第一次世界大戦(1914-1918)の戦没者の慰霊、全面には朝鮮戦争(1950-53)及びボルネオ戦争(1962-66)の表記があったが、ボルネオ戦争についてはよくわからない。太平洋戦争末期に日本軍とオーストラリアが重点的に関与した連合軍との戦いがあった(ボルネオの戦い)が、年代があわない。

妻は歩くのが苦手という事もあり、見学中、車を停車しても車から出ることはなく、私と友人3人がこの公園を中心に散策した。

メルボルンはシドニーより南極に近く、真冬と言うのにシドニー同様温暖で、きれいな花が咲いていた。

市内観光は車を宿泊先に駐車して、路面電車で廻ろうと言う案もあったが、結局、チェックインができる2時までレンタカーで市内を回っただけで、チェックイン後は、女性陣は夕食のごちそうなどを買いにショッピングに出かけた。

私はホテルでみんなを待つ時間、機内で読んだ「愛の鬼才」とシドニーで息子が示した他者に使える姿勢、また、自分がこれまで愛の少ない者であったことを示されたことにより、自分の努力ではなく、キリスト者としてふさわしい行動がとれるよう祈りによって聖霊に依り頼めという事を示された。

女性陣がホテルに戻り、夕食の食卓となったが、この席は私の罪の告白の場となった。
