140817 Bingesan (418m), Sutonggol, Geryongsan National Park, Daejeon, Korea

Mountain: Bingyesan (빈계산418m)

Course: Entrance of Sutonggol – Small Sutonggol – Joint of three trails – Bingyesan – Parking Lot

Participants: 10 (5 from Korea,2 USA, UK, Canada and Japan)

I was staying at Toyoko-inn Daejeon. So, I took a bus to Shinseongdong (#606) and joined the morning service of (VRBC:Vision Realizing Baptist Church).

Two daughters of the pastor played the organ and piano, and the deacon with a cap was playing the guitar.

After the service, they held the regular luncheon and I joined them.

After the luncheon, a couple of church members drove me to KAIST main gate where Teajonhikers’ meeting place.

It began to rain, but 9 members came to join me. Jong-Moo (Korea) and George Furst (USA). They are the co-leaders of this group.

Mr. Cho and Ms. Sunflower of DJSG (Deajeon Japanese Study Group) also joined me.

David Churchill and his wife, Kijong and a young guy from UK and Tina from Canada also came. Tina usually comes with her husband and their boy, Pablo, but Pablo was busy working his homework, so he stayed at home.

Since it was raining, we took a safe and short course of Sutonggol; from the entrance through “small” Sutonggol – Bingyesan – Parking Lot.

George Furst came with his pet dog “Pipi”but the guard at the entrance stopped him. Since Sutonggol is a part of Gyeryongsan National Park, we are not allowed to bring our pets into the area.

So he had to keep Pipi inside of his car until we came down to the parking lot.

On our way to the joint of three trails, I found a relatively small size toad among the rocks. He must be happy to get rain and came out from his nest.

At the joint of the three trails we had a short break. Mr. Cho brought a bottle of home-made drink and we drank the veverage. I offered each members a piece of chocolate.

We arrived at the top of Bingyesan at 15:11. I took group pictures there, but it did not stop raining.

So we hurried to go down to the parking lot, where Pipi was waiting for her master’s return.

We arrived at the regular restaurant “Sutonggol Bonga” at 4:30 pm. I called Ms. Chae who came to Japan in May to learn social dance from my wife. She joined us at 5 pm.

Jong-Moo ordered smoked duck, Makgeolli (Korean rice wine), cider, and Sujebi (Korean style “Suiton”) and we enjoyed all dishes.

He collected 8000 won (about 8 dollars) each and I think it was really reasonable price.

The party was over at 5:30 pm and Mr. Cho drove me to Toyoko-inn by his car.

東横インを10時ごろ出発し、606番バスで新城洞へ向かった。「夢がある教会(꿈이있는 교회)」には11時ごろ到着した。

韓牧師の娘たちがピアノとオルガンを演奏し、帽子をかぶった執事がギターを演奏した。

礼拝後、おいしい昼食をご馳走になったのち、また韓牧師の娘夫婦の車でKAIST正門まで送ってもらった。

このころから雨が降り出し、それも最後までやまなかった。

このような天候にもかかわらず、George　Furstもジョンムもやってきた。また、ティナやコラムのほか、DJSの趙さんやヒマワリ姫も参加した。

また、めずらしく喫茶店経営者であるヒーソンも来たのには驚いた。

さらにデイビッド・チャーチルと彼の韓国人の奥さん、キム・ミジョンも参加した。ティナのご主人のジェインツは一人でサイクリングに出かけたという。

また、パブロは夏休みの宿題がまだ終わっていないので不参加ということである。

登山地は雨でも安全に登れると言う理由でストンコルにしたが、入り口でレインジャーに止められた。

理由はジョージ・ファーストの愛犬ピピをつれていたことで、国立公園内はペット連れ込みは禁止と言うことだ。

やむを得ず、ピピはジョージの車内に残してピンゲ山登山に向かった。

錦繡峰(금수봉クムスボン)三叉路まで登る途中の岩場にヒキガエルがいた。やや小ぶりだったが、写真を撮った。きっと雨が心地良かったのだろう。

三叉路では趙さんが、なんとかベリー(山イチゴ？)で作った自家製の飲み物を全員にふるまった。私は板チョコを2個ずつ全員にふるまった。

ビンゲ山山頂には3時過ぎに到着。ここで集合写真を撮ったころも雨がやまないので、さっさと山を下った。全員ずぶぬれとなったが、それでもストンコル本家へ向かった。

駐車場へ下山後、ジョージはピピを車から出し、ストンコル本家へ向かった。

ストンコル本家に着いたのは4時半ごろ。ヘギョンに電話してよければ合流するように告げた。

彼女は5時すごしすぎぐらいに合流した。ジョンムが注文をとりしきり、カモの燻製、マッコリ、サイダー、スジェビ(韓国風すいとん)などを注文。みな腹いっぱいたべて一人当たりの会費は8000ウォン(800円)は実にリーズナブルだ。

打ち上げパーティは5時半に切り上げ、帰路は趙さんが車で東横インまで送ってくれた。悪天候の中、参加してくれたすべての人に感謝にたえない。
