We woke up at 2 am on the 2nd day of Mt. Fuji. I could not sleep well because of snoring, but when I got up, I ate the bento breakfast before going out. I was the only person who ate the bento. All others put their bento into their bags.
We wore warm clothes and put spats on our feet, then began climbing the rest of the trail to the top of Mt. Fuji at 2:20 am. It was crowded as I expected, but not too crowd like jam-packed train, rather we walked smoothly and we arrived at the top of Mt. Fuji at around 4 am.
Actually it was not the real top of the Mt. Fuji (3776m), but in front of Kusushi Shrine at the altitude of 3715m. The top of Mt. Fuji is on the peak of the crater called “Kengamine” (3776m) the opposite side of the crater.
In order to reach at Kengamine, you have to walk 1500m more, and if you complete the perimeter of the crater, it is 3 km and it takes about 90 minutes.
Most of my friends got altitude illness and it seemed hard for them to complete this endeavor. When I asked if they challenged this extra walk, only two; Mr. Kim and Mr. Kang raised their hands. The rest of the three stayed at the lodge “Yamaguchiya” which is located next to the start point of down trail.
It was blowing strong wind, and I felt very cold. Yet we began walking around the crater after seeing the beautiful sunrise.
The sunrise was beautiful, especially the tornado like cloud was beautiful, reflecting the morning sun shine.
We passed Fujinomiya and the steep slope called “Umanose” and reached at Kengamine at 5:10 am. After taking pictures at the stone pole, we hurried to Yamaguchiya where the rest of our group waiting for us.
We got together at 5:45 and began descending the trail all together. The three hikers who stayed at the lodge on the New 7th Station were waiting for us, and all of us arrived at the 5th Station at 9 am.
Then another problem came up. Mr. Liu, who snored last night, dropped his cellphone somewhere. When I tried to report this to the police office branch, there was no policeman. But one of volunteers who collect contribution for the conservation of Mt. Fuji environment, helped us by calling “Edoya” where he used his cellphone last. “Edoya” employee answered that he found the cellphone.
When we went back to Gotemba Station, Mr. Lie and I went to the “Koban” police office and reported the facts. Later, the staff person of Edoya sent Mr. Lie’s phone to my residence by door-to-door delivery service pay on delivery.
I got his cellphone when we returned from a week-long hiking trip, and I handed it to Mr. Lie when I came to Sydney.

シドニーレポート 第8号 「富士山と槍ヶ岳 山岳ガイド」#3 「富士山須走ルート第2日目」
富士山本八合目の「胸突江戸屋」で睡眠不足のまま午前２時に起床した。前日の夕食時に江戸屋から渡された朝食の弁当を食べたのは私だけで、他の５人はリュックに詰めた。
防寒具を身に着け、下山用のスパッツも装着して午前2時20分に山荘を出発した。この日は頂上まで人の列が途切れることはないが、渋滞のため長く立ち止まるということもない程度の混みようだった。
順調に２時間ほどで山頂の北東側にある久須志神社前に到着した。空は白んで、東の空は徐々に赤く染まる。久須志神社前から下山口の手前の山口屋前までは登山者でごったがえすので通過。下山路の入り口を通過した先まで進んで記念写真を撮った。
久須志神社の標高は3715mで、日本最高峰とされる剣が峰(3776m)は富士山の火口をはさんで反対側にある。剣が峰に行くにはいわゆる「お鉢巡り」と呼ばれる火口一周トレッキングをしなければならない。
高山病に罹った体でこの「お鉢巡り」は厳しい。山頂まで来た５人に尋ねると、キムさんとカンさんの二人だけが手を挙げた。残る３人は山口屋に入って我々３人が一周するのを待つことになった。
この日の山頂の日の出は素晴らしかった。とくに竜巻のように渦を描いて天高く上がった雲は初めて見るものだ。ただし、山頂は強風が吹いて体感温度はかなり低い。
剣が峰の手前の急坂はかなりきつい。剣が峰の石標に着いて認証写真を撮った時刻は5:10だった。
山口屋に残った３人に合流したのは5:45で、ここから七合目まで下山すると、前日ここで宿泊した３人に合流した。
全員で須走コースの砂走を下って五合目に着いたのは9時ごろだった。
ここで、問題が発生した。前夜大いびきをかいた劉さんが、ケータイ電話を紛失したのである。
五合目には警察の派出所があるが、職員はまだ出勤していなかった。富士山環境保全協力金を募っている人に相談したところ、劉さんが最後にケータイを使った「江戸屋」に電話してくれた。
幸運なことに、江戸屋に電話をするとケータイの落し物があり、それが劉さんのものらしいことが判明した。
我々は五合目を9時40分のバスで御殿場駅へ下って、観光協会に預けた荷物を受け取ってから、駅前の交番へ行き、紛失届を申請した。
この時点では果して劉さんのケータイが戻るか不安であったが、実はこののち、江戸屋さんが私の住所宛、着払いで宅配手続きをしてくれたため、劉さんのケータイは私が受け取り、シドニーへ持参し、本人に渡すことができた。この件についてはめでたしめでたしである。
