Sydney Report #6 “Mountain Guide for Sydney Hikers: Mt. Fuji and Mt. Yari” #1 Kamakura Sightseeing”

I have been climbing Mt. Fuji since 2006 every year. It was my 13th year and my 20th and 21st hike to Mt. Fuji this year.

Just like last year, I guided Korean people to the mountain. There were 8 people last year, and 12 people this year! Six of them were Sydney Hikers, four of them were their wives, and two men from Daejeon this time.

Moreover, for all people from Sydney, I guided them to Kamikochi (1,500m) and Mt. Yari (3,180m).

As for the 1st day (7/23), I saw them all at Haneda International Airport. First, I guided them to Kamakura, my home town.

First, I took them all to the 4th floor of Enoden Building where Kamakura Sightseeing Association Office is. I asked them to keep their luggage. There were two Japanese female clerks who spoke good Korean language. They were kind and gave us favor.

Then I took them to a restaurant called “Saizeriya.” My guests from Sydney were all surprise and happy to know the set lunch menu (Italian dish with rice or bread, vegetable salad and soup; 500 yen) reasonable and delicious.

They were all happy without heavy luggage and being content with lunch and we began sightseeing by walking “Dankatsura” road to Tsurugaoka Hachman Shrine.

We all climbed the stone steps up to the shrine, then walked down to Genpei Pond, then walked through “Komachi Dori” and returned to Kamakura Station.

We took Enoden train to Hase, then walked to “Daibutu” or “Great Buddha” and visited Hase Kannon Temple.

We came back to Enoden Building before 5 pm, and they got their luggage back and we headed to Numazu, a little town at the foot of Mt. Fuji by Tokaido Line from Ofuna.

Some of us had difficulty because the train was jam packed, but only first 40 minutes or so. We arrived at the hotel in Numazu at 18:40.

After checking in at Numazu Grand Hotel, we went to a “Yakitori” restaurant had a little party there. Draft beer tasted good!

It was my first day as a tour conductor and “Mountain Guide” for Sydney Hikers.
