100306 Mt.

[Mt. DongSeokSan in Jindo, Jeollado Province, it looks like Alps, doesn't it?

March 6, 2010.

Jindo is located in the south-western tip of Korean Peninsula. It is the 3rd largest island after Jejudo and Gojedo. It takes 5 hours by bus, so we left Daejeon at 6 a.m.

When we started hiking at Cheonjongsa Temple, it was a bit raining. We met other hikers who gave up hiking because of rain and difficulties of trail.

This is my 2nd hike at this mountain (Mt. Dongseoksan 240m). It was one of the most difficult hikes among more than 200 hikes in Korea for me. The reason of difficulty was the steepness and lack of facilities such as ropes and chains.

[Mt. Dongseoksan is not very high, yet, very steep、

But Korean trails are developing year after year. Now this mountain is well facilitated with ropes and chains. So, it is not dangerous to climb this mountain at all.

It is true that the weather was not good for hiking. But the spring rain washed trees and grasses. I found “jindalle” or Korean azalea blooming already.

After the 4 hour-hike, we went to “sashimi” restaurant, and had “sashimi” of trout and sole. Sashimi was prepared on a big dish, placed just like a big flower.

This time there were 2 foreigners beside me: P from Germany and A from Uzbekistan. P joined AhToSan several times before, so it seemed an easy hike for him, but it was A’s first hike, therefore he looked very tired, though he is still in the middle of 20s.

The number of total hikers for this hiking was 29, and the fee was 35,000 won including "sashimi" party.
