110205 Trip to Kyushu, the first day (九州旅行第1日目)

Trip to Kyusu, the first day, Feb. 5 (Sat) fine.

I went to Kyushu again during the Lunar New Year Holidays. I took KTX from Daejeon to Busan on Feb. 4. The ferry boat left Busan Habor in the evening and arrived at Shimonoseki, Japan in the morning of Feb. 5.

I was the first person who passed the customs of Shimonoseki. I arrived at JR Shimonoseki station at 8:15 and called Mr. Matsumoto and told him that I arrived at Hakata at 9:35 a.m.

I saw him at JR Hakata station, then we put our bags in coin lockers and had a short sightseeing walk in Hakata.

First, we went to Oohori Park next to Fukuoka Castle (only ruins). I came to this park with Alan a couple of years ago. There were many jogging/marathon runners around the pond. We found a big object of yellow pumpkin made by KUSAMA Yayoi.

After walking in the park and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle, we went to the port area where we had “Nagahama Ramen.”

There is a fish market this area. The noodle of this ramen is thin so that the noodle can be cooked in a short time. So the customers can eat the ramen quickly during the bidding business at the market.

Customers also enjoy additional noodle called “kaedama” with reasonable price. It is possible because the soup of this ramen is rather thick.

I enjoyed eating this ramen with “benishoga” or “pickled red ginger.”

After having Nagahama ramen, we hurried back to Hakata station and took a special limited train “Sonic” which left at 1 p.m.

We change trains at Ooita to a local train of Higo Honsen at 3:09 and got off at Higo Takeda at 4:21 p.m.

I saw a beautiful set of Japanese dolls at the station. These dolls must be on exhibition until March 3rd, the day of “Doll Festival.”

We rent a car at Takeda, and Mr. Matsumoto drove to our first hotel “Kuju Kogenso” at the foot of Mt. Kuju.

The hotel is located within Aso Kuju National Park and there was a spa in the hotel. We could see Mt. Kuju and even stars from the open-air spa surrounded by snow.

The accommodation of the hotel must be more than 100. There were many guests staying that night.

The dinner was delicious. We enjoyed the dinner with beer.

We enjoyed seeing DVD which my 2nd son recorded when he traveled Kyushu with Mr. Matsumoto last year.
