Destination (mountain): Mt. DaeCheongBong, SeolAkSan National Park
Hiking course: Hangyeryong – North-West Ridge – JungCheong Shelter (Lunch) – Osaek (14 km, 7.5 hours, personally it took 8.5 hours for me.)
Partner: 24 AhToSan members plus Chinhansaram from Seoul
The destination is Mt. DaeCheongBopng (1708m) in SeolAkSan National Park.
It was my first experience to walk from Hangyeryong to DaeCheongBong via North-west ridge, then walk down to Osaek entrance. Total hiking distance was 14 km and standard time was 7.5 hours, but it took me 8.5 hours.
I woke up at 3 a.m. and had breakfast and prepared for the hike. I left my studio apartment at 4 a.m. and arrived at the bus stop at 4:30.
The chartered bus left at 4:40 and there were only 25 participants this time (20 vacant seats.) I guess it’s because the hike was too long and too tough.
We arrived at Hangyeryong at 8:30 a.m. After taking group pictures, we began hiking. There was a steep stairs at the entrance, then there was a gazebo named “SeolAkRu.” We all put climbing irons there.
Mr. Hangyeryong, the planner of this hike, asked me to take his picture here. Then we began walking with climbing irons.
There was a memorial stone at the entrance of the trail there. It must be for those who lost their lives in SeolAkSan.
A lot of snow piled up all the way to Daecheongbong, but as I thought, those snow on trail were all stepped by hikers so it was not too difficult to walk on it.
About one hour after I began walking, I asked other members to take a rest, and I offered grapes and small tomatoes as usual. But there were only 5 or 6 people around me. Others were all ahead than us.
When I passed an iron bridge, I noticed someone looked like “Chinhan-Saram” who was not on the bus. It was indeed, “Chinhan-Saram” who came alone from Seoul. Since he lives in Seoul, he often does like this, but this time he has brown beard, so it was difficult for me to recongnize him.
Anyway, we were all happy to welcome him. When we reached at 2 km point, we took a rest and he provided “Gwamegi” or dried saury and special “makgeolli.” The brand name of makgeolli was “Chiljangju” and it cost 5000 won a bottle!
At this point, Mr. Gayongbong was the last hiker. We waited for him, but he did not drink any alcohole. In stead, he took a nice picture of mine and Mrs. Yoraeji.
When we arrived at the junction of three trails, it was 10:19. From this point to ChungCheong Shelter, it was called South West Ridge. The trail on this ridge was beautiful. We could see good command of SeolAkSan peaks all around us.
About 30 minutes later after the makgeolli break, we caught up with two of best AhToSan photographers; Mr. Geumgang, and Mr. Baegnihyang. We took our pictures each other and waited for Mr. Garyonbong.
At a point on the ridge, we waited for him for more than ten minutes, but Mr. Garyonbong and Mr. Geumgang did not appear. So we restarted toward ChungCheong Shelter, but I began to be left behind.
Actually, I could not see all who had gone before me, and I could not see either who had been behind me. I walked alone for more than one hour.
When I arrived at ChungCheong Shelter, I saw no AhToSan members at all. It was 1:15 p.m. I thought that all of them already left there. So I began eating my lunch there. It blew strong wind and it was very cold.
Then Mr. Geumgang arrived at the shelter. I was happy to see him. He asked me why I did not enter the shelter. Well I did not know there was a room underground. Mr. Geumgang went into the underground shelter and I followed him.
There I cound a dozen of AhToSan members there! I was extremely happy to join them and eat my lunch with them.
They treated me a bowl of hot ramen nudle! After having lunch we began climbing the peak of today’s hike, DaeCheongBong (1708m).
It blew strong wind outside the shelter. The wind became stronger and stronger as I climbed the mountain.
I was almost flown away because of the strong wind, and it was very cold. Later I noticed that the water in the plastic bottle was half-frozen!
I was wearing warm gloves with heat-patch but they were no use. I felt acute pain in my fingers. It was so painful almost torture, I felt.
Alain Delon happened to see me near the peak of DaeCheongBong. As he saw me in pain, he suggested me to hold, and open my fingers inside the gloves. It worked, yet it was still very cold.
I hated to take off my glove, and I asked Mrs. Yoregi to take my picture with my camera after another member, Mr. Amisan took her picture. Thanks to Mrs. Yoregi, I got my own pictures at the top of the mountain.
When I began decending the mountain toward Osaek Entrance, the wind wasnnot blowing any more.
On the way down, I was accompanied with Mr. Geumgang and Mr. Baengniihyang, the two good photograhers, but they went down first.
It was almost 5 p.m.
We still had to walk from Osaek Entrance to Parking Lot, for about a couple of kilomers. Mr. Garyongbong suggested to take a taxi, and together with Mr. Sinchun, three of us went to the parking lot by taxi.
We were indeed the last three members. All other AhToSan members were already in a plastic covered restaurant and waiting for us.
We had wrap-up party at the restaurant with “Yugejang” or spicy meat soup and makgeolli.
When we all consumed Daejeon makgeolli, the vice president of AhToSan, Mr. Chilgapsan allowed us to drink Gangwondo makgeolli (made from corns.) I liked the Gangwondo makgeolli with nice smell of corn.
We left the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. and arrived at Daejeon at 10 p.m. It was my 7th hike of this year and totally 268th hike with AhToSan regular hike.
[After hike, while seeing pictures which other members uploaded on AhToSan web]
- A man with short-sleeves shirt on the top of Mt. DaeCheongBong!
- Pictures of great tit. I noticed this bird while walking alone. Other members also noticed the same bird and took its pictures.
- Some men who jogged the same course (snow-covered 14 km) and finished the race in 3 hours! There are supermen in Korea, I thought.

登山月日：2012年2月11日(土)快晴
登山地：雪嶽山(설악산)・大青峰(대청봉1708m)
登山コース：寒溪嶺(한계령)～三叉路～西北稜線(서북능선)～中青峰(중청봉)～中青退避所(중청대피소昼食)～大青峰대청볼～五色(오색)[14km, 7.5時間の予定：私は8.5時間かかった。]
同行者：アトサン会員24名+チンハンサラム(ソウルから単独現地合流)
目的地は江原道・雪嶽山。コースは寒溪嶺から1307峰を経由してクィテキチョンボン(귀때기청봉)との三叉路から右折。西北稜線を中青峰の側面を経由して中青待避所で昼食。その後、大青峰を超えて五色へ下る14kmで所要時間は7.5時間だった。
この日は3時起床。ワンルームは4時出発。南門は4時40分。参加者は25人。3回満席が続いたのので、今年になって初めて座席2つを一人で占有した。
寒溪嶺には8時半に到着。少人数ながら集合写真を撮影後、出発した。
登山道入り口からすぐ急階段で登り切った場所に雪嶽楼がある。みなここでアイゼンを装着。今回のリーダーの「寒溪嶺」が寒溪嶺を背景にポーズを決めた。
「雪嶽楼」から雪嶽山に向かっての登山口の中央には山岳事故で命を失った人々の慰霊碑があった。
積雪量は1mほどと思われるが、登山路は予想通り、ハイカーに踏み固められているため、歩きやすい。
1kmほど登った地点でスズキタイムにしたが、なにせ私は最後尾グループのため、仲間は5、６人しかいない。２つ用意したケースの１つも空かずに出発した。
途中で鉄製の橋の部分で振り返るとチンハンサラムに似た若者が近づいて来たと思ったら、本人だった。いつもとちがい髭を伸ばしていたのですぐにわからなかった。彼は一人でソウルから乗り合いバスで来たのだった。
チンハンサラムが最後尾グループに合流し、2km地点でマッコリとクァルメギを提供。マッコリは「チルジャンジュ(칠장주)」という黒っぽいもので1本5000ウォンもする高価なものだという。大変おいしかった。
われわれよりさらに遅れて佳蓮峰氏が到着するのを待ってヨレジさんと出発した。佳蓮峰氏はアルコールはたしなないがクァルメギは食べたのだろうか。
寒溪嶺から2.3km地点でクィテキチョンボンと大青峰に分かれる三叉路に到着したが、10:19だったからほぼ2時間もかかったことになる。
この地点から中青待避所までの稜線は「西北稜線」と呼ばれる登山路で左右前後、どちらを向いても雪をかぶった山々が見える。
金剛さんは佳蓮峰氏を待ち続けたが、残りはさらに20分ほど進んだ尾根道のやや広い部分で休憩した。私の果物を出して2度目のスズキタイムにしたが、二人は来ない。10分ほど待ったが、諦めて出発した。
この後、私は後尾グループからも遅れ、後ろの二人には追いつかれることなく、一人で進むことになった。
海抜1610mのクッチョン(끝청)付近で12時が過ぎ、腹が減ったが、みな中青待避所で食事をしているだろうと思い、がまんして進んだ。
球状の構造物が3，4個見える中青を左手にみながらピークを過ぎると中青待避所、そして大青峰がよくみえた。この時点で午後1時を過ぎていた。
中青待避所に着いたのは1時10分。いつも食事をする外のテーブルにアトサンのメンバーはいない。もう後尾グループも食事を済ませて出発したのだろうと、強風が吹きつける中、やむなく一人で食事を始めた。
弁当を半分ほど食べ終わったころ、金剛さんが到着した。彼は退避所の中に入って見ろと言う。そこで、地下の待避所内に入ると、なんといたいた。アトサンの仲間が、チョンダウン会長もアランドロンも、約10人以上が昼食中だった。
ここで、仲間のテーブルに着こうとした瞬間、私の携帯電話が鳴った。新城サウナのハ・ボッキさんが私の腰痛を心配して電話を掛けたのだった。大丈夫だと答えて電話を切った。
仲間と食べる昼食がいい。自分の弁当のほか、アツアツのラーメンもごちそうになった。手洗いなど済ませてからしっかり支度を整えて大青峰に向かった。
ところが外はすごい風。文字通り吹き飛ばされそうになりながら、一歩一歩踏みしめて頂上を目指したが、とにかく寒い。
ホッカホッカカイロを入れてある手袋をしていても指が拷問されているように傷む。ようやく頂上についても手袋を脱げる状態ではなかった。
たまたまそこにいたヨレジさんに自分の認証写真を撮ってくれと頼んだら、彼女は快く2枚も撮ってくれた。感謝。
彼女の認証写真はアミサンが撮った。彼はこのような厳しい環境にも平然としていられる男らしい男。頼もしい。
極寒の世界は大青峰の頂上付近だけで、20mほど五色側へ下ると風も当たらず、寒さもそれほどではない。
頂上の一番厳しいところで両手の指が痛くて堪らなかった時、アランドロン顧問が私に近寄って、手袋を脱ぎ、指を握ったり開いたりしてみせ、手袋の中でそうやってみろと言う。そのとおりにしたら、痛みが消え、楽になった。
困っている人間を自然体で助けるこのような行為が私もしたいものだ。
下山途中ではしばらくの間、金剛さんと百里香さんの二人と同行したが、やがて離された。
バスははるか下の駐車場なので、そこまでタクシーを使うことにした。もう一人の会員(シンチュン신춘)と3人で乗ったが、韓国では割り勘はしない。すべてパン屋チェーンの社長である佳蓮峰氏が払ってくれた。
駐車場でアトサンのバスはすぐ見つかったが会員はいない。みな、すぐそばの食堂兼コンビニのビニールハウスの中にはいってティップリの準備中だった。
ティップリメニューはあつあつのユッケジャンにマッコリ。持参したマッコリがすぐなくなり、江原道特産のトウモロコシのマッコリを追加注文した。
このマッコリはこうばしいトウモロコシの香りがしてうまかった。我々が駐車場に着いたのは5時過ぎ。ティップリは5時半に切り上げ、大田へむかった。
南門には10時に到着。今年7回目、アトサン定期登山268回目の山行は長い長い一日となった。
[大青峰登山後記]
アトサンの他の会員が撮った写真で感心したものが数点。
私が「地獄へ来たのではないか」と思った極寒の大青峰山頂で、あの強風・低温の環境下で、半袖シャツ1枚で写真に納まっている山男がいた！
また、山岳マラソンと称して、おなじ14キロコースを3時間で走る超人がいた！
この2点は人間だが、私も見かけた小鳥の写真を、アトサンの写真家二人(金剛さんと百里香さん)がとらえていた。
この鳥は日本語では「シジュウカラ」韓国語ではパクセ(박새)そして英語ではGreat Titというらしい。
この鳥の鳴き声は年中聞こえるが、姿を現すのは雪に覆われた冬が多い。人を恐れないようで、すぐちかくまで来るのはまるで餌をねだっているようだ。
