120901 “Wedding Ceremony of Chris and Hyejong”

Date: Sep. 1, 2012 (Sat) Fine

Place: “Today’s” in Goyang-si (the suburb of Seoul)

Participants: Parents and relatives of the couple and about 100 guests.

It was Saturday, but it was the day of wedding ceremony for one of my important friends, so I did not go hiking, in stead, I went to Seoul to attend the ceremony.

I met Chris in the ferry boat from Shimonoseki to Pusan on Feb. 14, 2012. I was on my way back from hiking trip to Mt. Aso with Mr. Matsumoto in Kyushu.

Chris is one of the most fluent speakers of Korean as Westerners. When I saw him three years ago, he was already a good speaker of Korean.

He said he had a Korean girlfriend and she taught him Korean and he was an eager student of the language. He has been an English teacher at a middle school in Seoul.

Although he lives in Seoul, I invited him to AhToSan hiking and he came all the way from Seoul to Daejeon to attend AhToSan hiking several times.

Actually he got “Best Member” status since he attended AhToSan regular hiking 10 times in the past three years.

It is our regret that he is leaving Korea for good. Chris and Hyejong will start their new life in Seatle in the state of Washington.

So, it might be my last chance to see him in Korea.

The wedding ceremony was held at an outdoor party reception place called “Today’s.” It is the outskirts of Seoul, and at the foot of Mt. Bukkansan.

It was a fine day after the rainy days. So, their wedding was blessed by God. The reception style was completely Western style. Althouth there was no pastor or priest, it was a civil wedding without religion.

Chris and Hyejong have been steady for at least 3 years. That made me think of my own case. I saw my wife in March of 1970. We joined the same English training camp held in Hachioji. They we met several times in the following three months and we were at the wedding ceremony on June 28 of the same year!

Well, a wedding day is not the goal, but a starting point of the rest of their lives.

I cencerly hope their successful marriage life from now on.
