[We left the hotel at 8 am.

It was a fine day, and we headed for Hakone via Chigasaki and Odawara.

We made a short stop at Chigasaki by the seashore. It was a fishermen port. We wondered if we could buy some fried fish, but they were not selling any.

Then we stopped at Odawara Castle.

It was built during Sengoku Period (1467 – 1603), and destroyed during early Meiji Period (1868 -1912). It was rebuilt in 1960. The gate called “Tokiwagimon” was rebuilt in 1971, and the endeavor to restore the castle is still continuing now.

We had a short break at the Odawara-joshi park, and BJ and Marta went up to the top of the castle building. It was such a fine day, they could have a nice view of Sagami Plain and the Odawara beach.

After the castle, Kikko drove the steep slopes of Hakone and we went to Ōwakudani.

Ōwakudani is a volcanic site where volcanic activity is quite active now. Actually it was closed after we visited 6 months later (May 2015).

While Kikko was waiting at the shop, I guided my guests to the place where the smoke from the earth was coming out in the valley.

After having sightseeing at Ōwakudani” we headed for Hakone Shrine by Lake Ashi. Hakone Shrine is a popular place for year-end and new year period. There were many sightseers, and again, I guided my guests while my wife was waiting in the car.

Marta sent some time for choosing gifts for her mother and mother-in-law again. I noticed that there was a big picture panel of Ryuji Kashiwabara, who ran the 5th section (from the bottom of Mt. Hakone to Lake Ashi, all uphill running) of Hakone Ekiden in 2009 to 2012. He renewed the top record 3 times during the year.

After Hakone (Lake Ashi) on the way to the hotel in Izuyama, Atami Hot Spring, we stooped at a scenic point and took pictures of ourselves with Mt. Fuji.

Then we arrived at the hotel at 3:15 pm. We changed our cloths to the Japanese stype room wears. Then we relaxed and took hot spring bath and had drinks and food as appetizers.

Kikko brought some beverages including some wine and some food for "tsumami" so we had a little party before and after having hot spring.

[Having appetizer in the room,

We had big dinner at 5;30 pm. It is always nice to have so much delicious food prepared by professionals.

We enjoyed traditional Japanese dishes, and sake and beer, and talked and talked until nearly 8 o’clock.

We retired to our rooms at 8 pm. It is always nice to have so much food, but in terms of “health” I should strain myself, because of my diabetes.

(Sightseeing Guide),

[At Chigasaki Port,

[At Tokiwagi Gate,

[At Odawara Castle,

[Our guests at the castle tower,

[At the parking lot,

[In front of a gift shop,

[At Ōwakudani,

[On the way to Atami,

[Arriving at the hotel,

[In the room of the hotel,

[Having appetizer in the room,

[At the dining room,

[At the dining room,

[At the dining room,
