My wife reserved a “Family Bath” at the Hotel. It is an open air hot spring bath on the room.

[Open-air spa on the roof、

You can get nice views of the sea of Izu (a part of the Pacific Ocean) from the hot spring.

She originally reserved the bath for BJ and Marta, but Marta was not for it, so I took the bath with BJ in stead of her.

We could get fine views of the ocean indeed. We saw a fisherman’s boat in the sea and beyond that, we could see Hatsushima Island and the Tanzawa Mountains from the bath tub.

After taking morning hot-spring bath, we had breakfast at the hotel dining-room.

[Hotel breakfast、

It was a buff-style breakfast in the combination of Japanese and Western dishes. I had a typical Japanese set (rice, natto, grilled sermon, miso-soup) and some western dishes such as spaghetti, bread, etc.

[Hotel breakfast、

Again, we have to be careful, not to eat too much. We should always eat slowly, and chewing everything well, and try to eat a lot of vegetable. But it is always difficult to put into practice.

We checked out the hotel at 9:45 and were heading for Ofuna. On our way home, we visited “Yoroizuka Farm” near the remains of Ichiya-jo.

Ichiya-jo was built by Hideyoshi army when they attached Odawara-jo in late 16th century. They built that “instant” castle when they surrounded Odawara-jo.

“Ichiya” means one night. In reality, it took several days, but they built it secretly behind the trees. When the completed, they cleared the trees, so it looked to appear so suddenly for the eyes of defense soldiers in Odawara-jo.

The Ichiyajo was a kind of fortress, but the remains showed quite a good size, and there is a restaurant named “Yoroizuka Farm” nearby.

"Yoroi" means "armors" and "Zuka" means "tomb". Since it was a fortress during the war period, there were many armors left after the war. That is the etymology I guess.

On the way to the restaurant, we stopped in the middle of “mikan”or mandarin orange orchard. There was a local farmer, selling “mikan” and some vegitables for the visitors.

[Buying "mikan" oranges,

We stopped at the open-air shop and bought some "mikan" oranges for ourselves.

The location of the farm is very good. It is on the hill so visitors can enjoy good views of the Sea of Izu, and they put several animal monuments which were popular among kids.

A small ladybird beetle flew and stopped on Marta’s finger. It was so tiny and cute and Marta was really pleased to have it.

The owner of the restaurant operates an organic farming. They use the products from their farm for the ingredient for the dishes, and their bakery is also very successful.

[Lunch at Yoroizuka Firm,

The restaurant is always crowded. We bought cakes, soups, and some beverage and enjoyed them on the table outside.

After having “light” lunch, we headed back to Ofuna. On the way back to Ofuna, we dropped in “Suzuhiro(鈴廣)” which is famous for producing “Kamaboko(蒲鉾)”

Kamaboko

[Roasting "Kamaboko" machine,

“Suehiro” was founded during “Edo Period” and very famous for selling “Kamaboko”. We dropped in its headquarters, and my wife bought “high quality” gifts for her relatives in Yamagata Prefecture.

It is a Japanese tradition that kids visit their parents home during the New Year holidays. So he usually visits her mother who is over 90s now.

So while she was doing shoppings, our guests enjoyed sightseeing in the shop. Finally after the shopping at “Suzuhiro,” we went back to Ofuna.

We arrived at their hotel at 14:10, thus my wife’s mission was over. Their trip to Izu was over.

[Event in Ofuna]

The Shonan Nozomi Christ Church (SNCC) organizes choirs of Hand bell and vocal choirs during the Christmas season and they utilize for missionary events.

[Preparing for the performance,

The perform Christmas carols in front of Ofuna Station (West Exit where our church locates.) While they are performing caroling, other members pass out our church leaflets with Christmas story and the pastor made short speeches to passers-by.

Most of none-believers just passed by, but my guests stayed with me for about 30 minutes.

I noticed that some passers-by did stay with us. They could be believers, or non-believers, but they were encouraging to the members of SNCC.

After listening to SNCC choirs of Bell Music and vocal choirs, we headed for sushi shop to round up their trip to Japan.

There are several good sushi restaurants in Ofuna. My wife recommended “Hougyo (豊魚)” which locates on the second floor above a fishery market in Nakadori Street.

We went early, yet some people were already waiting for its open. We took nice seats around the counter and we could order whatever we like to the sushi master directly.

Since we had “light” lunch at Yokozuka Form, we had good appetite. Besides, the shushi there were very delicious.

We had many plates of sushi to round up this trip to Izu. After the dinner, I left them for being themselves, and I headed for SNCC to join the Christmas Party at the church.

[Open-air spa on the roof、

[Open-air spa on the roof、

[Hotel breakfast、

[Hotel breakfast、

["Daikon" radish,

[Buying "mikan" oranges,

[At Yoroizuka Farm,

[A small ladybird beetle,

[Shopping at Yoroizuka Farm,

[Shortcakes at Yoroizuka,

[The decoration for New Year's Day, 正月用の飾り、일본의 설날 용 장식]

[At Suzuhiro Headquarters,「

[Preparing for the performance,

[Preparing for the performance,

[Hand bell performance at the exit,

[At Sushi Shop in Ofuna,

[At Sushi Shop in Ofuna,
