“Uchimakiso” is facilitated with natural hot spring. So the guests can use the hot springs whenever they like. Therefore, I took the both twice on the previous night, and once more in the early morning. I could see stars in the sky from the open air hot spring there.
They prepared breakfast for all of the guests at the big hall with “tatami” mats. Seeing that I was not good at sitting cross-legged, a hotel employee brought a small chair made of bamboo. I was very much impressed by her good service.
Mr. M and I were the first guests who came to the hall. We were followed by two young ladies who seemed to be Chinese. So “Uchimakiso,” the traditional Japanese inn, seems international. They served us raw eggs, but they served fried eggs for them.
Mr. M and I checked out at 9 a.m. and went to JR Aso station by bus. Then we took a local train to Musashizuka, and changed train to the limited express train named “Ariake.”

“Ariake” has “green-car” and “reserved-seat” cars and ordinary cars. We went to an ordinary car. To our surprise, inside of the ordinary car, there were several staterooms or compartment. There is a spacious table with a table lamp. We liked this stateroom very much, so we had a little party, having left-over wine and snacks from the hiking.

Mr. M came from Karatsu, Saga prefecture. But he kept company with me all the way to Moji. He even took me to JR Mojikou (Moji Harbor) and had sightseeing there with me.
Moji Harbor is close to Shimonoseki. They are famous for “Fugu” or “balloon fish” dishes. We had “Fugu Zousui” or “balloon fish porridge” and “Fugu tempura” with draft beer.

After saying “good-bye” to Mr. M at Moji, I hurried to Port Shimonoseki. The boat left the port on time and the return-to-Korea voyage was very smooth. It was not crowded at all. Actually there were only 3 guests in the cabin; a Korean businessman, a big young Caucasian, and myself.

I happened to talk to him at the lobby, “May I sit by you.” Then he answered, “Yes, of course” in Korean. C is an American from Seattle in Washington. I was surprised because he spoke good Korean. He teaches English in Seoul, but he has been in Korea for only one and half years! We watched a succor game “Korea vs. Japan” on a big screen in the lobby together, while drinking beer. I bought Korean beer at a convenient store in the boat, while he bought Japanese beer "Ashahi" at a vending machine in the lobby. We kept talking in Korean, and watched the game. Most of passengers on the boat were Koreans, so they had cheers and happy cry every time Korean players did good job. The result of the game was Korean’s come-from-behind victory with 3 to 1.

I asked the secret of learning Korean so successfully in a short time. He said that he had a Korean girl friend in Pusan. No wonder he learns Korean so quickly. Anyway, he seemed very happy when he landed on Pusan.

I like hiking very much. I used to go hiking with a Korean hiking club named “AhToSan.” This blog introduces mostly my hiking activities in Korea and Japan, and Sydney in Australia. As of January 2020, I live in Sydney suburb. I go Blue Mountains and bush walk in Sydney area.
