Destination (mountain): Gyeryongsan (鶏龍山계룡산845m)
Hiking course: Shinwonsa (Temple) – Yoncheonbong Pass – Gwaneumbong – Jayonseongseung – Sambulbong – Gapsa (Temple) Total 10 km

March 1 in Korea is a national holiday commemorating March 1st Movement which happened on March 1, 1919. So, Taejonhikers often plan a whole-day hike as I joined the one in 2004 with Alan.
That time we went to Mt. Jiri, stayed overnight and climbed Chonwangbong (1915m). We also celebrated Alan’s 72nd birthday that day. Oh, it’s already 8 years ago!
This time, Jong-Moo planed a full-day hike to Gyeryongsan in Gongju.
Since Gyeryongsan is close to Daejeon, and easy to access by bus to Donghaksa, I often climbed this mountain.
Jong-Moo planned this time, completely opposite side of the mountain, starting from Shinwonsa and ending at Gapsa.
Only 5 of Taejonhikers came to KAIST Main Gate parking lot at 9:30. A new-face, Lewis is a strong American guy, wearing half-sleeve shirt which surprised me a lot.

Lewis seems to have intrests in Budism, and he met Jim at a temple near Gyeryongsan.
We went to Gapsa first, and left George Furst’s car there and headed for Shinwonsa.

Gapsa and Shinwonsa, both temple were founded in 7th century, and together with Donghaksa, the three famous temples in Gyeryongsan.

It was my first visit on Shinwonsa. There was “ChungOkDan” where during Jeoseon Dynasty, people gave ceremony to the gods of Gyeryongsan.

After having sightseeing around the temple, we began hiking at around 11 a.m.

It was a fine day without strong wind. While walking up to the pass, we felt rather hot and just like Lwise, we took off our oulter cothes one by one.

We arrived at Yoncheonbong Pass at 12:45. We had lunch there. We spent time leisurely there and then we began walking toward the main ridges of Gyeryongsan at 13:22.

We arrived at Gwaneumbong at 13:45. We could see nice view of the mountains very well. Then we began walking on the ridge called “Jayonseongseung” toward Sambulbong.

George Furst broguth a nice camera and it took him more time because he took many pictures.
Lewis was the most active. He went ahead of others, and he made the top of Sambulbong. Others went close to the peak, but without reaching the top, we began decending the mountain.

There was quite amount of snow on the trail from Sambulbong to Geumjandi Pass, and we had to use climbing irons there. Only Lewice did not need to use them.
When we arrived at Yongmun Waterfall, it was still half-frozen. It looked nice though.

We finally arrived at Gapsa at 16:45. The free water at the temple tasted good.

We came back to the parking lot where George’s car had been parked at 17:07.

George drove us to Shinwonsa, and Jong-Moo got his car and the hike was finish.
It was my 11th hike for this year.

同行者：李鐘武、アエラ、ジョージ・ファーストおよびルイースの4人
3月1日は1919年3月1日の三・一独立運動を記念する公休日で「三一節」と呼ばれている。公休日なのでテジョンハイカーズがハイキングを企画することが多い。2004年のこの日は、アランや友人たちと中山里から智異山の天王峰に登った。ちなみに3月1日はアランの誕生日でもあり、この時はアランの満72歳の誕生日を祝った。私もあと8年後、果たしてアランのように、元気に天王峰に登れるだろうか。
さて、李鐘武がTaejonhikersのために本格的な登山を計画してくれたが、参加人数が少ない。KAIST正面玄関横の駐車場に9時半に集まったのは、鐘武のほか、ルイース、アエラ、ジョージ・ファーストと私の五人だけ。
それでも集合写真撮影後、ジョージ・ファーストと鐘武の車に分乗して出発。2台で出かけた理由は、登山の開始地点と終了地点が異なるためだ。
まず、甲寺へ行き、ジョージの車だけ駐車し、5人が鐘武の車に乗って新元寺へ向かった。甲寺駐車場到着は10:25、新元寺駐車場には10:40に到着した。

新元寺の案内文によれば寺の発祥は百済時代の651年にさかのぼる。有形文化財31号の五重の石塔や、李朝時代に国家として鶏龍山の神に祭事を行った「中嶽壇」などがある。
またこの「中嶽壇」と並行するように鶏龍山を背にしてずっと小型の「鶏龍山神祭壇」が設置されているのは、アトサンのような山岳会が「始山祭」や「終山祭」などの祭事ができるように、比較的最近になって設置したものと思われる。

この辺はまだスタートしたばかりで余裕があり、寺や「中嶽壇」の建物も美しかったため、ゆっくり見学しながら進んだ。
「古王庵」へ400mという標識を通過したのがちょうど11:30で、この辺から本格的な上り坂の登山路となる。また、上りが続いたため、とても暑く、みな上着を脱いだ。ジョージ・ファーストはついに半袖シャツ1枚になった。

ようやくという感じで「蓮天峰コゲ」に着いた時は12:45でここで昼食にした。ルイースはキウイを始めキムパプやナッツなど他のハイカーと分けて食べられるものを多く持参し、実際に他のハイカーに分けた。私は今回はトースト・サンドイッチとコーヒーにした。沖縄の黒あめは数個ずつだったせいか好評だった。

ここではかなりゆっくりとして、出発は13:22。鐘武の判断で、ここから簡単に甲寺へくだるのではなく、観音峰～三仏峰峠経由で甲寺へ向かうことにしたため、アトサン級の本格的な登山となった。
観音峰では石標付近が込んでいて、そちらはあきらめ、三仏峰方面をバックにいい写真が撮れた。

峰々を結ぶ急こう配の稜線は梯子が整備されているので、問題ないとはいえ、足を踏み外せば大ごとになるので注意が必要。
途中、クムジャンディ・コゲへの近道は残雪が多く、鐘武が危険と判断し、遠回りだが道幅の広い三仏峰コゲ経由にした。しかしこちらも残雪が多く、三仏峰付近はとうとうアイゼンを着用した。

いちばん元気なルイースだけはアイゼンなしでも大丈夫だった。結局アイゼンはクムジャンディ・コゲまで着用した。
ここでやや長い小休止をとってから自然石の急坂を下って新興庵へ。この建物はまだ真新しく、赤と青の「丹青」がまだ塗っていなかった。

ここから甲寺までも1.3kmほどあり、中間に龍門滝がある。この滝の氷結は半分ほど溶けていた。春が近い。甲寺に着いたのは16:45。

ジョージ・ファーストは、甲寺の門前市場で焼き栗とマッコリを購入、全員にふるまった。

駐車場で最後に写真を撮ったのは17:08となっていた。ここから全員がジョージの車に乗り、新元寺には17:20、KAISTには18:00過ぎに戻った。
日が伸びてまだ十分に明るいのは嬉しいことだが、徒歩で新城洞に帰ったため、ワンルームに到着した時はすっかり暗くなっていた。今年11回目の登山である。
