We left Expo South Gate Parking Lot at 7 am. There were 37 participants including myself. All Koreans except myself.

The moutains were close to Daejeon, therefore, in spite of the long hiking hours, we left 7 am, just as usual.

In the bus on the way, we had a Best Member Reward, and a birthday cake celemony for Chilgapsan (Vice president of AhtoSan.)

He said it was his 25th on reverse, which means he became 52 years old. He is an honest and faithful to AhToSan man.

It was a foggy morning, but when we arrived at Gosari Parking Lot, there was no fog but a bit cloudy. Therefore it was relatively cool all day.

[Preparing for a group picture,

I came to Gosari Parking Lot before with Alan and Caving Group. The big stone monument and the restaurant are unique. They reminded me of the good old day memories with Alan and Korean cavers.

This day, I used an old camera which the time and date were wrong. I noticed the fact near noon, so the time and date were wrong until then.

From the parking lot till the entrance of the trail which leads to Shinsonbong, it was a paved road. When I saw a big rock, the letters “Joryongsan Natural Recreation Forest” written on it, there was a guide post which showed the direction of the mountain.

The trail in the woods were rocky and a bit steep. There was a stone stream on the right side. I was the last person among the whole group.

“Yoro” a kind staff member, accompanied me as usual. I began suffering from the symptoms of asthma then.

The stone stream looked wonderful. I asked Yoro to take my picture in front of it. Then about 10 people were waiting for me.

[In front of the "rock stream",

We had “Suzuki Time”when I offered fruits and other provided makgeolli. I could take a rest for about 10 minutes, but the symptoms of asthma became worse.

["Suzuki Time" break on the way, 登山の途中で最初の休憩、등산 도중에 첫번째 휴식 ]

It was really hard for me until I came up to the ridges, after having 2 hour climbing.

I arrived at the top of Shinseonbong at 11:30 with the president of AhToSan and Yoro. When we came to a rocky view point, a dozen members were having “Makgeolli Time”as if they were waiting for us.

[With Yoro on the top of Shinseonbong,

We arrived at Mayokbong at 11:45. After taking some pictures, we took a place for lunch in the woods on the ridge. About 20 people had lunch together.

["Jindallae" is sharing a roasted chicken with other members, 『

A female member (Jindallae) brought a whole roasted chiken. It was the biggest feast, and we shared our lunch. Korean lunch is always healthy, including a lot of vegitable.

After having lunch, we went on among big pine trees. One of them was so big, I and Alain Delon could not help but climbing on it.

[I climbed on the big pine tree,

At that time, I was completely recovered from asthma and I felt very good and pleasant. But among big pine trees, I noticed that there were those with big scars on the trunk.

These scars were put duing Japanese occupation period, in order to get pine resin oil to use as fuel for automobiles and even airplains.

[The scar given during World WarⅡ in order to take resin oil,

We continued the ridge walking. These rides are along “Baekdu Daegang” which means the big ridge from Mt. Baedusan in North Korea to Mt. Jiri in the southern parto of Korean peninsula.

We passed Mt.760 and arrived at East Gate at 14:15. It was 14:33 when we arrived at the foot of Mt. Bubong (“Bu” means “Kiln”and there are 5 peaks from #1 Bubong to #5 Bubong.)

[At the fork point of "Bubong Samgeoli, 釜峰三叉路にて、부봉삼거리에서]

[Rock climbing with the help of ropes,

To climb Bubongs required a lot of rock climbing using ropes, except the final peak of Bubong #6 Bong. The last peak was very steep and they facilitated iron ladder-like steps.

When we arrived at the final peak, it was already past 4 p.m. I was happy to end this hard climbing.

[On the Bubong 6-bong (final peak),

We began descending the mountais after the last peak, and then we came to the woods of beautiful white birches. I heard the sound of water running in the river.

Some AhToSan members were washing their feet and I washed my face in the stream. It was 16:50. I arrived at Donghwawon Service Area at 17:00. From Donghwawon, it was a broad way which went through the #3 gate. It was an old high way which old day students of Lee Dynasty, walked to Seoul to take “Gagyo” or “Imperial Examination.” There was a big “Tap” called “Book Rock”along the road. I vaguely remember that I came the same place with AhToSan hikers several years ago.

Anyway, I was delayed again this last portion of the hike and I was the last person to arrive at the goal “Gosari Restaurant.” It was 18:00.

The rest of the people were alreay there, having makgeolli and Tofu and kimchi for the wrap-up party.

We finished the party at 18:20 and went back to Daejeon at 20:00. It was my 30th hike for this year and my 283rd AhToSan regular hike.

[The birthday cake for Chilgapsan-nim,

[At Gosari Parking Lot,

[A group picture before the hike,

[A map which shows Korean Peninsula & Baektu Mountains (above) and the entrance of the trail to Mt. Shinseonbong (below),

["Suzuki Time" break on the way, 登山の途中で最初の休憩、등산 도중에 첫번째 휴식 ]

[The mountains of Bubong from the ridge,

[The top of Shinseonbong,

[A dozen of members having "Makgeolli Time" at the rocky area,

[At Mt.

["Jindallae" is sharing a roasted chicken with other members, 『

[I climbed on the big pine tree,

[The scar given during World WarⅡ in order to take resin oil,

[Rock climbing with the help of ropes,

[The steel ladder to the 6th peak,

[On the Bubong 6-bong (final peak),

["Book Rocks" with the explanation of "old story",

[The Saejae Third Gate,

[Mr. J and his son at the wrap-up party, 打ち上げパーティにてJ氏とその息子뒤풀이에서 J씨와 그 아들]
