“Healing Power that Pains Have”
(Pains Have Healing Power)
When we have problems and stresses, we suffer from them. But God uses them to complete the purpose of our lives.
Let us think about the cases of Manasseh. God used Assyrian military forces to give great pains to him. In his agony, Manasseh began to pray to God. (2 Chronicles 12, 13)
God listened to his plea and restored his throne. It is clear what we should learn from Manasseh’s case. Recovery was done through pains. Lord used Assyrian forces as “whips of rebuke.”
David said that his sufferings were from the hand of God. He wrote as below:
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.(Psalm 119:67)
It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.(Psalm 119:71)
These parts showed how God’s words became “light for feet” for David. How David obtained the life of prayers and became a man who walked after God? According to his won confession, it was through “pains” and “sufferings.”
“If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.” (Psalm 119:92)
This is an amazing inspiration. David was saying, using various words, as below.
“I know that God allowed these sufferings and pains on me so that I could be healed from my own foolish and meaningless deeds. If there were no fear inside of me, if there was no necessity to face these problems, I would not become as I am now. God knew my mind and he knew how he should treat me so that I mind was directed toward him.”
You may think as below, “It is difficult to accept your idea. Why, the God of love, allowed terrible things happened to David, whom he loved. If God loves me, how he allows these terrible suffering come upon me!”
In reality, what David said was the life-giving truth. He was saying to us, “If we cannot see that Lord is working on the situations surrounding us, and if we cannot understand Lord’a road of justice is leading us by his hands, our faith must be broken and destroyed after all.”
These words from Psalm touch upon these problems.
Psalm 66:10-12 (NIV)
10 For you, God, tested us;
you refined us like silver.
11 You brought us into prison
and laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a place of abundance.
Psalm 34:7
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
When David went through sufferings, he saw especially the hand of God on his pains. He knew that God was doing something of eternity.
In fact, he understood that our sufferings were for healing us and making us fixed.
Lamentations 3:32, 33
32 Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.
33 For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.
Jeremiah said, “God sometimes punishes us and it can be agonizing. But God himself feels pains in his heart.” Literally it means “Lord’s mind is not there” in Hebrew.
Lord’s mind is not for punishment, but for healing from punishment. Many Christians may think when they face sufferings that they are under the Satan’s attack. But Satan cannot do anything against children of God, unless he gets permission from our Lord.
God allow us suffer from all kinds of troubles. When Satan asks God to attack us, he cannot do so unless God makes the wall of our defense low. Lord told David as below;
Psalm 89:20-22 (NIV)
20 I have found David my servant;
with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
21 My hand will sustain him;
surely my arm will strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;
the wicked will not oppress him.
God says “It is not the matter what kind of trials God faced. He must be released when God’s time came. Let the world know that Satan can not grind anyone down unless he gets my permission.”
Lord is always with his people when they face trials. People of God always have appropriate way to respond to their problems in the time of sufferings.
That is to have a mind of curiosity. “What does Lord want us understand?” That is the question to have in our minds.
Through long time of experience, when the time of suffering comes, I went to my Lord with open-minded.
Then I ask him “What does this mean? What are you going to show me? I shall do whatever you tell me.”
The Holy Spirit always tells me. “Obey God, then the heaven will be open and everything becomes clear to you.”
Our salvation is not fragile. Even though we have been saved, we had not been cleansed completely. We still have many problems which prevent us from being filled with abundance of God, such as secret venery, greediness, indolence to God’s calling.
When God shows us what we have in hour hearts, such as lack of patience, sins attaching to our minds, small but serious compromises, they become arduous, that we should know about it.
Psalm 119:76-77 (NIV)
76 May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
Whatever the sufferings are severe, God does something good to our insides. When we become humble in our hardship, God gives us wonderful inspirations with his compassion. We do learn important lessons when we have deepest pains. When I stop depending myself and rely on my Lords compassion, believing He will solve my problems, I got solutions through his compassion.
Below is the words of promise for those who are in agony.
2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Psalm 103:8-14 (NIV)
8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.

苦痛の持つ癒しの力
問題やストレスに悩むとき、私たちはとても苦しいけでども、神は私たちの人生における目的を全うするためのそれらを用いられるのです。
マナセのすべての悪事を考えてみましょう。第2歴代誌33:1-10 神はマナセにアッシリアの軍を用いて大変な苦痛をもたらしました。この苦痛の中でマナセは祈り始めたのです。」33:12、13
神はマナセの叫びを聞かれその王座を回復された。マナセの話から学ぶべきことは明白です。それは苦しみを通って回復が起こったのです。主はアッシリア軍を攻め入れさせ、叱責のための鞭として用いられた。
ダビデ王は彼の苦しみが神の御手からくるものであると言いました。ダビデは記しています。詩篇119:67、71
この箇所は神の言葉がダビデにとってどれ程足の灯になったかを物語っています。彼はどうして素晴らしい祈りの人生を手に入れ歩むものとなったのでしょうか。ダビデ自身の証しによればそれは苦しみを通してだと言っています。
「もしあなたの御教えが私の喜びでなかったら、私は自分の悩みの中で滅んでいたでしょう。」詩篇119:92
これは驚くべき啓示です。ダビデは様々な言葉を用いて次のように言っているのです。
「私にはわかっている。神さまが無意味で馬鹿げた肉の行いから私を癒すためにそれらを許されたのだ。もし私の内側に恐れを置かれなかったなら、これらの問題に取り組む必要がなかったなら、今日の私はなかったのだ。神は私の心をご存じで、どうすれば私の思いが主に向かうのかをご存じであったのだ。」
あなたはこう思われるかも知れません。
「それを受け入れるのは難しい。愛なる神さまがどうしてダビデに恐ろしいことが起きるのを許されたのか。もし、神が私を愛しておられるなら、何故今私が直面しているようなひどい苦しみを許されるのか。」
現実にはダビデの言っていることはいのちを与える真理です。彼は私たちにこう言っています。「主が私たちの状況に働きを行って下さるということが見えず、私たちの状況においても主の御手によって義の道が導かれていることを信じずにいれば私たちの信仰は砕かれ破滅するしかないのだ」
次の御言葉はこの問題に触れています。詩篇66:10-12, 34:7
ダビデが苦しみを通り抜けた時、彼は殊に痛みに対する御手の働きをみました。何か永遠なることを行っておられるのだとわかっていました。
事実、彼は私たちの通る苦しみは私たちを癒すためであり、整えるためであると理解しました。哀歌3:32,33
エレミヤはこう言っています。「神は私たちを懲らしめられることもあり、それは苦しいものです。しかし、神はご自身も心に痛みを覚えておられるのです。」この箇所のヘブル語の意味は文字通り「主の心はそこにない」というものです。
主の御心は懲らしめにあるのではなくそこからもたらされる癒しにあるのです。多くの信徒は苦しみに直面するとすぐさま自分がサタンの攻撃にあると考えます。しかし、実際のところサタンは主の許しなしに神の子たちに対して指一本上げることはできないのです。
神こそが私たちの苦しみを許されるのです。サタンが私たちを攻撃したいと願う時、先ず神が私たちを取り巻く守りの壁を引き下げなくてはなりません。ダビデについて主が言われたことはこうです。詩篇89:20-22
「ダビデがどのような試練にあったかということは問題ではない。それらを通して彼は神の時に解放されるのだ。私の許可なしに悪魔はなにびとをも苦しめることができないことを世に告げよう。」
主はご自分の民が試練に遭う時必ず共にいて下さいます。神の民にはどのような苦しみの時にも用いることができる適切な応え方というものがあります。
苦しみの時の正しい応え方は好奇心旺盛な心にあります。そのような心は「主はこのことを通して何かを伝えようとしておられるのですか？」と聞くのです。
長い年月を通して私は苦しみが来る時には心を開いて主のみもとに走って行き、「これは一体どういうことですか？何を見せようとされているのですか？あなたの言われたことはどのようなことでも行います。」と聞くことだと学びました。
聖霊は例外なく私に教えて下さいます。「従いなさい、そうすれば天が開かれて全てがはっきりする」と示されたりします。
私たちの救いは危ないものではありません。ただ、救われていると言っても私たちは完全に聖められているわけではないのです。神の豊かさが私たちの内側に溢れるのを妨げてしまう様々な問題を私たちは抱えています。それらは秘密の情欲、貪欲さ、神の働きに対する怠惰など心の問題です。
神が私たちの心の中にあるものを示してくださるとき、―忍耐の無さ、心に付きまとう罪、小さいけれども深刻な妥協など、―私たちはそれは苦しみの時に耐えがたきものとなるということを知っておくべきです。詩篇119:76,77 私たちがどのような所を通ろうとも神のあわれみはそこにあります。詩篇145:8,9
苦しみがどれほどひどくても神は何か特別で良いことを私たちの内側に行って下さる。苦しみの中にあってへりくだるとき神は憐みをもって素晴らしい啓示を与えて下さいます。最も深い痛みを持っている時こそ大切な事を学ぶのです。物事をどうにかしようとするのをやめて主が解決して下さることを信じ、御旨を行って下さることを委ねることだけにしたときに主の憐みが臨みました。苦しみのある方のために聖書の約束の箇所です。第2コリント4:17、詩篇103:8-14
