140718 Sightseeing in Yokohama (Yamashita Park, Hikawamaru, China Town, etc.)

140718 Sightseeing in Yokohama (Yamashita Park, Hikawamaru, China Town, etc.)

Date: July 18, 2014 (Fri) Fine

Itinerary: Ofuna – Yokohama – Yamashita Park – Hikawamaru – Minatogamieruoka Park – China Town – Yokohama –Ofuna

Since Haekyung had dance lesson only in the evening, I took her to Yokohama for sightseeing.

I went to see her at the hotel lobby in the morning. Then we went to Sukiya Restaurant for breakfast.

Japanese style breakfast is healthy and reasonable price. It consists of rice, miso-soup, baked fish, some vegetable, and natto. It costs 280 yen (about 3 dollars.)

It takes only 15 minutes from Ofuna to Yohohama by JR train. We headed for Bay Quarters in East Exit.

We took a boat ride called “Sea Bass” but the first boat left at 10 am. We had about 30 minutes to kill. We had coffee at the harbor.

The boat ride from Bay Quarters to Yamashita Park gives passengers nice views of Minatomirai 21 District, such as Landmark Tower, Continental Hotel, Marin Tower, and Yamashita Piers, etc.

[Landmark Tower,

Haekyung liked the sceneries very much and I took a lot of pictures.

There is the ocean liner once used for travelers coming from USA or going from Japan to USA.

[Hikawa Maru,

The name of the ship called “Hikawamaru” and the missionaries who led me to Jesus Christ about 40 years ago, Mr. & Mrs. Walter took this ship several times.

[At the entrance of Hikawamaru,

I remembered the fact and was interested in seeing the inside of the ship. So we decided to go inside the ship.

Recently they renovated the inside of the ship, making it more like the original shape.

[The first class cabin,

Soon after the entrance, there was a small movie theater. We could learn the history of the ship in English. So it was very educational.

The banks in the ship looked like dormitory bedrooms. But the first class cabins were like small hotel rooms.

The dining room for the first class passengers was also good and the food looked very nice.

We could see almost every part of the ship including engine rooms and the room of the captain.

We spent more than one hour for the sightseeing.

Then we walked to Minatogamieruoka Park through Yamashita Park and France Park District.

Walking distance might be about 2 km, and it was a bit hard for my guest. We walked slowly and having short breaks several times.

The view from Minatogamieruoka Park is one of my favorite views in Yokohama. We could see the Bay Bridge, Yamashita Port, Marin Tower, etc.

Then we went to Osanagi Jiro Memorial Museum. There was a coffee shop called “Muteki” on the first floor. We took a bit long rest at the coffee shop.

There were many cat dolls since Jiro Osanagi liked cats. Haekyung liked such cute dolls and goods which cats were printed.

[Uji-kintoki ice-cake,

She also had a kind of ice cake called “Pat-pin-su” in Korean or “Korimizu” in Japanese. It was “Uji-kintoki,” ice cake with red beans.

She also enjoyed shopping at the restaurant, then we walked to China Town, which was another 2 or 3 km away.

[At China Town,

There are many Chinese restaurants at China Town, but mostly expensive. We just visited “Kanteibyo” or the Shine of Shoki” at the heart of China Town.

We took a train from China Town and went back to Ofuna via Yokohama.

It was 3 pm when I took her to her hotel in Ofuna, so Haekyung had a couple of hours to rest for her dance lesson in the evening.

I enjoyed watching Sumo on TV at home.

[Hikawa Maru,

[The dining room,

[The engine room,

[A walnut tree at French Park,

[Coffee & Uji-kintoki ice-cake,

[At China Town,

[At China Town,
