140720 Sightseeing Guide in Kamakura before Breakfast
Date: July 20 (Sun) 2014 fine,
Place: Kamakura (and on our way to Hakone)
Guest: Haekyung Choi (Korean)
[Brief sightseeing at Kamakura before breakfast]
Haekyung had been staying at a hotel in Ofuna. She liked the hotel very much, but I could not reserve the hotel on Saturday.
As an alternative, I reserved a business hotel near JR Kamakura Station.
It was Sunday, so I took her a brief sightseeing in Kamakura before the church service in Ofuna.
I saw her at the hotel lobby at 8 am. Then leaving her luggage at the hotel, I took her to Hachiman Shrine.
On the way to the shrine from the main gate of the shrine, there is a Catholic Church. Some people were selling products of Tohoku area (311 disaster affected district).
I bought some vegetable and she bought some snacks of Fukushima.
At Hachiman Shrine, it was still early in the morning, so there were few sightseers and the place was quiet.
Lotus flowers were in full bloom in the ponds and we could see pink and white flowers of lotus very well.
There used to be a huge gingko tree beside the stone steps but it fell down when a typhoon hit Kamakura a several years ago.
It was my first visit after the tree fell down. There are some tillers from the root of the tree, and it seemed that they were growing well.
After having the brief sightseeing in Kamakura, I took Haekyung to Ofuna where my wife picked us up and drove to the church on the hill.
The service was to 10 am to 11 am, but it lasted until 11:15. My wife was waiting for us in front of the church, then took us to join her dance lesson group.
Nine of her students joined us to go to Hakone. We headed for Hakone with 3 private cars.
[From Ofuna to Hakone]
First, we stopped at a traditional Japanese style restaurant called “Nagoya” in Hiratsuka.
It was my first experience to visit his restaurant. It was a big Japanese style house and we had our reserved seats on the 2nd floor.
We had traditional Japanese “soba” noodle in different forms. I guess Haekyung enjoyed this a lot.
Then we dropped in another unique restaurant called “Ichiyajo Yokotsuka Firm.”
The location of this restaurant is very good. It is on the hill next to Odawara Castle. We could see the Sagami Bay, and one of my wife’s students bought a dozen of apple juice for all of us.
We arrived at the hotel in Hakone before the evening.

I like hiking very much. I used to go hiking with a Korean hiking club named “AhToSan.” This blog introduces mostly my hiking activities in Korea and Japan, and Sydney in Australia. As of January 2020, I live in Sydney suburb. I go Blue Mountains and bush walk in Sydney area.
