The destination was Yonhwa-Bong, Yonhwado Island in Tongyeong City. It locates the south eartern part of Korean Peninsula near Busan, or Gojedo Island. Actually Tongyeong City consists of the part of peninsula and 140 small islands. Yonhwado is one of them.

AhTosan came this island on December 1, 2007. I joined this hike, so this is my 2nd visit to the island.

We arrived at the port in Tongyeong at 10:14, and began boarding at 10:40.

As soon as we took the place, we began eating and drinking, even before the ferry began sailing. I offered chestnut-makgeoli and some side dishes. But Bernerdo was taking pictures of seagulls on the deck. He did not join our drinking party.

We arrived at the island at noon.

The trail has been well facilitated than before. After walking for about 30 minutes, we arrived at the ridge. There, we had a short rest, and I offered Chile-grapes and Chinese orangies (kinkan).

While walking toward Yonhwa-bong along the ridge, a stranger began talking to me. He introduced himself as Mr. Wolyeong Jeong from POSCO. He reminded me of Antonio Inoki, a Japanese pro-wrestler.

We had lunch at a gazebo on Mt. Yonhwa-bong. I joined the big group, and enjoyed food which other members brought. I offered a bottle of imported wine and wiskey which I bought during the last trip to Kyushu.

We had a nice view from this area. So we took a lot of pictures including some group pictures. Then I began afternoon-hike with Bernardo and Boram/Hongjin, the Stammtisch members.

But they went a bit too fast, and went to the wrong trail. I followed the main group, and kept walking along the ridge. So we arrived at the farest part of the island (returning point) earlier then the three (Bernardo, Boram/Hongjin.)

They caught up with us anyway on the last hill on the way back to the harbor. The last part of the hike was the beautiful temple named “Yonhwasa.”

The “maehwa” or Japanese “ume” blossoms were in full bloom at the temple. Then we came back to the port.

Some members who came first were in the “Pojangmacha” or “vinyle-covered”restaurant and having “sasimi” with soju. Some of them invited me from the inside, so I had the last piece of sashimi and some sips of soju.

There were no rice field on the island. The residents make living on fishing. I bought 8 flatfish by 10,000 won (about 850 yen.) They turned out to be good side-dish for rice.

We went on board to the high-speed (hovercraft) boat for the return trip to Tongyeong. We had anoter party on the board with some makgeolli and sea-products.

We arrived at Tongyeong at 4:30 and had “Wrap-up party” at the parking lot. We had better (higher) tables than usual, and we enjoyed “Suyuk” with kimchi and more makgeolli by buffei-style party.

We left Tongeong at 5:30 and arrived at Expo South Gate in Daejeon at 8:45 p.m.

It was my 15th hike for this year and my 230th regular hike with AhToSan. (The fee of the trip was 39,000 won including the boat.)

今回の目的地は韓半島東端に位置する統営の蓮華島。「コッセンチュイ」が緩んだ朝。アトサンはいちだんと大きいバスをチャーターしたが、座席数は同じようだ。45人満席のはずだが、私の隣の席だけが空席だった。

統営までテジョンICから3時間もかからない。港には10:14に到着。10:40にはフェリーに乗船し、船が皆を出る前に船室で飲み食いを始めた。私も栗マッコリを提供。今回はオジンゴのつまみもよくはけた。

私は出航後、デッキに出て、しばらくカモメにセウッカンを与えるなどして遊んだが、潮風が冷たく、また暖かい船室に戻った。

蓮華島には正午に到着。蓮華島はこれで2回目だが、前回よりさらに整備が進んでいた。最初のピーク、蓮華峰に着く前の尾根の上で小休止。

今回はほぼ先頭だったので、多くの会員が私が持参した青ぶどうとキンカンを食べた。
この地点から蓮華峰へ行く間、浦項からきた50代の男性が私に話しかけてきた。POSCOに勤務する鄭ウォルヨン(정월영)氏でアントニオ猪木のような顔、がっちりした体格だった。

蓮華峰の亭子の下で昼食。ここでは持参したワインとシーバスリーガルを振る舞った。アランドロンは上質のチョッパリ。また、いつものように新鮮な野菜も多かった。ここが最も景色の良い所で、食後しばらく写真撮影を楽しんだ。

このあと、下り坂で、ボラムとベルナルドがそのまま下って、後から来たアトサン本隊と離れてしまい、最後に帰路で再開するまで会うことはなかった。私は本隊とともに、尾根を進み、山道が舗装道路に交わる地点で、以前、この島にアトサンで来たことを思い出した。

サンサランやアランドロンも以前来たときに同行したようで、彼らが私のあいまいな記憶をたしかなものにしてくれた。島のあちこちに薮椿が咲いていたが、まだ春の花は咲いていなかった。帰路の最後のピークでベルナルドやポラムたちが追いついた。

港に戻る直前、以前来たことを確信させる蓮華寺を再度、軽く見学した。ここは梅の花が満開だった。島は耕作地がほとんどなく、漁業で生計を立てている。カジャミ(カレイ)の干物を8匹1万ウォンで買った。
先頭グループは埠頭のポチャマチャに入って刺身で一杯やっていた。私は遅れて合流したが最後の一切れと焼酎数杯をごちそうになった。

帰りの船はフェリーではなく、高速船で、出航は4時。行きは1時間かかったが、帰りは30分。統営には4時半に到着したが、この高速船内でも呑兵衛が集まり、しっかり飲み会を開いた。

統営に到着するとそのままバスの駐車場でティップリをした。今回のバスには高級なテーブルや椅子が積んであり、高い位置でのビュフェ・スタイルのティップリとなった。ティップリのメニューは前回同様スユクとキムチだった。

バスは5時半ごろ出発。市内が渋滞して高速道路に出るまでに時間がかかり、途中2回の休憩で、南門には8時45分に戻った。

今回は今年15回目のハイキングでアトサンのトータルは230回目。会費は39000ウォンだった。
