100702 4th day of USA trip (Grand Canyon - Monument Valley - Flagstaff) 米国旅行4日目(グランドキャニオン-モニュメントバレー-フラグスタッフ)

July 2nd (Fri) 4th day of the tour. Wake-up call rang at 4:15 am. We went to the another cite of the rim where many sightseers saw the sun rise.



During the free-time, we seemed to have walked the longest distance, therefore we were the last ones to come back to the bus.





During the walk, we happened to see the Japanese family from Kentucky again. My wife remembered the fact that their eldest child’s birthday was July 2nd, so we all sang “Happy Birthday to You” to Hirori who was born on July 2nd , 1999.









We went back to the lodge at 6. I noticed that there were no vegitable for the breakfast. So American breakfast that morning was not my choice, but fair enough.

We left Grand Canyon at 7:30 and headed for the next destination; Monument Valley.

On the way to Monument Valley, we dropped in Cameron where they sell craftworks made by native Americans (the Navaho people.)





After leaving Cameron, we arrived at Monument Valley at around noon. We went to a restaurant run by the Navaho people. I liked the vegitalian lunch there very much.



While having lunch, the weather had changed suddenly. It began raining hard, but just for a few minutes.



I visited a small museum of the Navaho near the restaurant. Then we began the Monument Valley tour by smaller vehecles.

The scenes of Monument Valley were fantastic. These scenes were familier to me because I saw them in the Western Movies such as “Wagon Mastor.”





During the Monument Valley tour, it rained from time to time, yet we enjoyed this tour very much.





After the Monument Valley, we headed for a town named Fragstaff.



We had dinner at a Western style restaurant named “Blackbarts.” At Blackbarts, waiters and waitresses are students of an art school. They sing and dance while serving the guests as waiters and waitresses. Their songs and dances were nice and terrific!




We had steaks and drinks (red wine for my wife and dark beer for me.)

After having pleasant dinner and time, we checked in a hotel in Fragstaff.

I could use “wireless internet” for free at my room. I liked this hotel, but the speed of internet connection was a bit slow, I felt.

2010年7月2日(金)ツアー4日目、モーニングコールは4時15分。4時45分に集合してバスで朝日を見るポイントへ向かった。



ここは峡谷沿いのフラットな高原で、崖の上に沿って峡谷を見下ろすことができる。







我々二人は最も遠くまで歩いたようで、日の出を見た後、もどると一番遅くなった。



戻る途中、昨日あった日本人の一家にまた会った。互いに写真を撮り合い、メールアドレスをもらった。また、今日は長女・ひろりちゃんの誕生日(1999.7.2)ということで、みんなで「ハッピーバースデートゥユー」を歌った。



ロッジへもどると6時ちょい前。6時からの朝食に並んだ。アメリカンブレックファーストには野菜が含まれていないのが不満だったが、まあ、仕方ない。

部屋へ戻って荷物を整理して7時半出発。次の訪問地、モニュメントバレーへ向かった。

バスはアリゾナ州へ向かって荒野を一路南に向かって走る。途中、1919年に開設されたというCameronに立ち寄った。



ここはインディアンの工芸品を主として売る土産屋で大部分のツアー客にはうれしいショッピングの機会。私はひまなので周りを散歩した。きれいな花と荒野が見えた。



Cameronを過ぎて2時間ほどで今日のメインのモニュメントバレーに到着。まず、ナバホ族の食堂に入り、「メキシカン・タコ」というベジタリアン風の昼食をとった。



食事中に雷が鳴り、にわか雨が降り出した。食事を終えた頃、ちょうど雨が上がり、簡単なMusiumを見学した後、モニュメントバリーの見学を始めた。









ここではアップダウンのある非舗装路を走るワゴン車に乗り替えた。このうち2台はオープンエア、1台はバンだったが、この時、空が曇り、またしても雨が降り出した。





雨がときどき降る中を約90分の観光は面白かった。まるで馬の背に乗っているような感じがした。





夕食はフラッグスタッフの「ブラックバーツ」という歌と踊りを見せてくれるレストランだった。

ここではウェイターやウェイトレスが芸術学校の学生たちで、見事な歌や踊りを披露してくれた。



また、飲み物のチョイスで出て来たのはライトとダークビールの大と小。ダークというのは黒ビールのことでかなり甘い感じがした。

喜久子はワインをボトルで注文。私はダークビールの大を注文。別の仲間がライトを注文したが、これが苦味のうまいビールだった。彼は苦いのが苦手と言うので私のダークビールと交換した。

夕食後にフラッグスタッフのホテルにチェックイン、無線インターネットが無料で使えるのがよかったが、速度がやや遅い感じがした。
