We arrived at “Rim Edge” where “viewing platform” is. It’s really a terrific scene of historical view of earth.
Now we went down to the canyon from the high plateau. This reminded me of “Iroha” slope in Nikko. After landing on the bottom of canyon, we headed for a town called “Sedona.”
Sedona is located at the sacred power spots of native Americans where they had strong “healing power.”
According to the guide, Sedona became popular among Japanese sightseers since Namie Amuro visited here with her boyfriend several years ago.
Sedona is popular not only for Japanese, but also many Americans. 4 million people visit this town during a year, they say.
There are several regulations including the hight and color of buildings. We saw a green sign of McDonald shop which was red in the other places.
While having a free-time for leisurely stroke, Kikko dropped in a boutique named “Dahling It’s You Boutique” and did shopping for dresses for dance.

After leaving Sedona, we stopped at a railway station of Grand Canyon Railway. There was a steam locomotive at the station, but it seemed only for “exhibition.”
We had all-you-can-eat buffet lunch at a Chinese restaurant named “ABC Restaurant” on our way to Las Vegas.
We happened to see a quarterfinal of World Cup South Africa game, Spain vs Paraguay. We saw the crucial moment of Spain’s goal there.
“If Japan won the game against Paraguay, we could see the game between Spain and Japan there, what a shame!” I thought.
We kept going for several hours in the wilderness and arrived at Las Vegas at around 4:30 pm. We checked in “Paris Las Vegas” which was under “the Eiffel Tower” in Las Vegas.
The lobby looked like a museum. There were beautiful pictures hanging on the walls. But there were no sofa or table. It’s just like a big hall. The first foor of the hotel was a casino where there were a lot of slot machines and tables for pokers.
The internect connection was available, but cost $15 for a day. It was a nice room and I took a picture of Kikko who wore the dress she had bought at Sedona during the day.
After checking in, we went to a designated restaurant named “LA VILLAGE BUFFET” on the first floor.
The first floor was just like the outside of Paris in the evening. The ceiling was painted just like the sky of Paris.
After the dinner at LA VILLAGE BUFFET, we went out for the night tour of Las Vegas. We were supposed to start at 8 pm, however, the guide came 15 minutes late because of “overheat” of his own car. Nobody complained and we patiently waited for him.
The first attraction was illumination show at Fremont Street, downtown. It started at 9 pm and lasted for about 10 minutes.
They played songs of “Doors,” and we heard the voice of Morrison who died in his 30s. The final music was “The Star-spangled Banner” because it was the eve of Independence Day.
After seeing “illumination show” we went to “Stratosphere Hotel & Casino.” The hotel has the tallest tower (350m) in the United States. We went to the observation decks which were above 108th floor of the tower.
The sights of Las Vegas from the observation decks were wonderful. There were several attractions even above 350 meters from the earth as below: (Quoted from Wikipedia.)
The top of the tower has two observation decks, a restaurant known as "Top of the World" (revolving restaurant), and three thrill rides:
Big Shot at 1,081 ft (329 m) is the highest thrill ride in the world.
Insanity, opened in 2005, at 900 ft (270 m) is the second highest thrill ride in the world; it dangles riders over the edge of the tower and then spins in a circular pattern at approximately forty miles per hour.
SkyJump Las Vegas, a controlled descent, Bungee jumping-like ride that will allow riders to plummet 855 ft (261 m) attached to a high speed, descent wire. SkyJump opened on April 20, 2010.
X-Scream at 866 ft (264 m) is the third highest thrill ride in the world.
We finished the sightseeing at around 11 pm and went back to the hotel. However, my wife and several other colleagues of the tour went on farther sightseeing: FOUNTAIN SHOW in front of Bellagio Hotel. I saw a part of the show from the bus on our way back to the hotel. But she was not satisfied with it, and got off the bus and saw three more times until the very last show at midnight. She came back to our room at almost 1 am midnight.
2010年7月３日(土)ツアー5日目、快晴。5時半にモーニングコール。6時の朝食前に荷だし、朝食後、7時にはバスが出発。グランドキャニオンの別のスポット、セドナへ向かった。
展望台のあるリム・エッジには8時前に到着。リム・エッジから見下ろす峡谷が相変わらず素晴らしい。
この後、この峡谷の下へ、いろは坂のようなカーブの続く道を下った。セドナは峡谷の谷あいの町で、ガイド氏によれば、アムロナミエがお忍びで来てから日本人の間で有名になったという。
また、インディアンの間では不思議な治癒力のある場所として長く知られた場所で、強力な磁場があるとのこと。「パワースポット」というらしい。
セレナは観光客相手の町だが、京都のように建築規制をして、たとえばマクドナルドのMマークがグリーンというような色彩規制もしているらしい。
街中での休憩時間に、喜久子はDahling It’s You Boutiqueでダンスの衣装の調達に余念がなかった。
セレナを出てから、グランドキャニオン鉄道の駅に立ち寄り、トイレ休憩。ここのSLは実際に動くのではなさそうだ。
昼食は、ABCレストランという中華バイキング。ちょうどW杯でスペイン対パラグアイの準々決勝をやっていて、スペインが決定的なゴールを押しこむ場面を見た。
パラグアイ戦に日本が勝っていれば、スペインの無敵艦隊との試合を見ることができたのに、残念。
さらに砂漠内を走ってやがてラスベガスに到着した。フランスをテーマにしたと言う「パリス」で美術館の中のような受付ロビーだった。
しかし、通常あるべきソファやテーブルがいっさいない、単なるホールのような作りで、そもそも入口から受付まで行く部分がカジノになっていて、人々がスロットマシンやポーカーに興じていた。
残念ながらカジノは撮影禁止。ホテルではケーブルに寄るネット利用が可能だが、15ドルと成田空港の3倍だった。
ホテル到着は午後4時半。チェックイン後、前回のホテルで失敗した部屋の中での記念撮影をした。喜久子は昼間購入したドレスを着て撮影。
さて、チェックインしてから1時間後、夕食のため1FのLE VILLAGE BUFFETというレストランへ行ったが、ものすごい人でごったがえしていた。
夜のラスベガスツアーは7時55分集合。しかし、ガイド氏が自分の車のオーバーヒートで出発に15分遅れるというハプニング。それでもこのツアーの人々は強く非難する人はいなかった。
このツアーの最初のハイライトは9時から始まったアーケードの電飾ショー。
すごい衣装をした男女がそれぞれ記念撮影をするごとに客からチップをもらうシステムでわれわれもやや盛りをすぎたようなバニーガールと記念撮影。
電飾ショーはドアーズの歌で、ボーカルは麻薬におぼれて30代初に死んだ伝説的なロックスター・モリスンの歌だった。みごたえ、ききごたえがあった。また、喜久子はツアー仲間の女性と電飾ショーの下でダンスを始めた。

最後は独立記念日前夜祭ということで、「星条旗」で締めた。
このあと、地上350メートルもあるストラトスフィア・タワーの展望台。ここは地上108階までエレベーターで上り、さらに1階あがった屋外の展望台がすごかった。
松本氏が言う1000万ドルのラスベガスの夜景は、シカゴのシアーズタワーでみたものよりも見ごたえがあった。さらにすごかったのはここの遊具で、①地上300メートルで乗り物に乗って、前後のスライド、上下の揺れを経験するもの、②さらに上から下への座ったままでの落下体験、③花の蕾のような座席に内側向きで座っているとそれが回転に連れ開き、地上を見下ろしながらの絶叫マシーンがあった。
このほかにバンジージャンプもあるという恐ろしい遊具の数々。あとでロスのガイドに聞くと、これらは30歳以上の特に男性には恐ろしすぎて不向きということだった。
このあとホテルへ戻ったが、約半数のツアー客は「パリス」の近くで15分ごとに行われる噴水ショーを見るために途中下車。喜久子は当然のごとく途中下車。
私は部屋に戻って風呂に入ってからネットを見て寝た。しかし、喜久子が戻るまで寝付かれず、金縛りにあうような悪夢から覚めたところで彼女が戻った。12時50分だった。
