101120 DuRyunSan (頭輪山두륜산703m), Haenam(海南해남), JeonNam(全南전남)

Date: Nov. 20 (Sat) 2010 Cloudy occationally fine.

Place: DuRyunSan (703m), Haenam, JeonNam Province

Course: Suaenojae – UiBong – DuRyunBong – UiBong Ridge – Maniljae - Daeheungsa (temple) – Parking Lot (6-hour hike)

Partners: 34 (No foreigner, except myself)

The mountain is located in the southern tip of the peninsula, so we left Daejeon one hour earlier, at 6 a.m.

I climbed the same mountain in May, 2008. The route was also the same, but this time, I took a short-cut, and spend more time at Daeheunsa Temple.

It took more than 4 hours and we began hiking at 10:30.

The first challenge was the slipperly rocky slop. Some members like this kind of challenge, but for me, it’s a bit too much.

Anyway, I could manage to be in the first group, and had “Suzuki Time” rest at the end of this rocky slope.

I offered grapes and grape-tomatoes as usual. This time, I bought imported light-green grapes instead of Korean dark-blue grapes. AtToSan people seemed to like them better. I also brought “chest-nut makgeolli” which was also popular among members.

Then we came to the ridge where we had a good command of views. We could see a lot of islands and mountains around us. I could walk much easier than usual. So I could be in the top group until the lunch time.

[On the ridge,

The leader of the top group was Jeongjeong, nice-looking lady who takes care of general affairs at AhToSan. She walks as the leader of the top group with walky-talky, and always smail when I try to take her pictures.

Jeongjeong decides where we have lunch. She decided the place for lunch, and the middle group and the last group joined us.

The first group was about to leave when the last group arrived, though. I was still in the first group and followed Jeongjeon.

We faced more challenges: the rocky places without ropes or chains. At such places strong members climb up on rocks first, and then help others by lending hands.

[Members help each other at difficult place、

At around 1 p.m., we came to the popular trail where other hikers were coming. That was close to the peak of DuRyungBong.

The trail was steep yet well facilitated by steps and rails. There was a natural rock bridge called “Kurum-tari” or “brige of cloud” near the peak. Then we reached at the top of this mountain.

While I was walking down in the crowed of hikers, I lost the sight of Jeongjeong and other first group people. Now I was in the 2nd group.

We came to cross-road at Maniljae. Since I had “cramp” while climbing the rocky trail, I chose the short-cut with another female member called “Yoreji.”

Yoreji is also a good hiker. She usually walks with the top group. But she also had “cramp” that day, so we took easier course.

[Gentle slope of the down trail,

Yoreji is a good cook and she often brings “special food” she makes at home. She gave me some dried persimmon while walking the down trail. They were very sweet and nice.

We had much time than others because we took a short cut. So we went to Daeheungsa Temple and enjoyed “sightseeing” at the temple.

It was a big temple indeed. It took nearly 30 minutes from the temple to the “mountain gate” of the temple. We arrived at the bus stip before 4 p.m.

The top group came to the bus at 4:40, and others came after 5 p.m. The tippuri were “odeng” and “deodeok makgeolli.” Since I arrived at the bus first, I was the one who ate “odeng” most.

We left the place at 6 p.m. and returned to Daejeon at 10 p.m. It was my 55th hike for this year and my 220th hike with AhToSan in total.

[Gentle slope without handrail、

[Lunchi Time along the trail、

[Gentle slope of the down trail,

[Tippuri Party at a gazebo in a parking lot,
