Date: Nov. 27 (Sat) 2010 Cloudy after fine.

Place: GeumJeongSan: GoDanBong (801.5m), Pusan, GyongNam Province

Course: Beomosa – Godangbong (Geumjeongsa) – North Gate – Wuonyobong- Uisabong – #4 Lookout - #3 Lookout – East Gate – Daeryukbong - #2 Lookout – South Gate – Ssanggebong – Paribong – Hwamyongdong filtration plant (7-hour hike)

Partners: 40 members including Sam, a British youth

It was the 294th regular hike planned by AhToSan. This time, Sam Stevens, a cheerful British youth joined our hike.

I saw him at Stammtisch on November 10 for the first time. He was wearing “Kilt” a skert-like germent.

He came to Korea only 3 weeks ago, yet he was courageous enough to join AhToSan hike. I guess he is an exchange student at KAIST. But he said he had studied a doctor’s course in Stockholm, Sweden. He would be back to UK 3 weeks later. That means he is only 6 weeks in Korea.

He was living at DCC (Daejeon Convention Center) which was close to South Gate Parking Lot. So, I met him at the Expo Bridge that morning.

The bus left at 6 a.m. and arrived at Beomosa Temple in Pusan at 9:30 a.m.

Sam was very much excited because it was his first experience to visit a Buddest temple.

Beomosa is one of the oldest temples in Korea. It is said to be built in 678. There are many newly-built Buddest images such as golden Budda, or silver statue Deity of Mercy. I understand that Sam was very much interested and exited since it was his first experience. But we came for hiking, not sightseeing, so we just did quick sightseeing of the temple, and began hiking.

However, we had a big event on the bus in the morning. It was the cerebration of Alain Delon’s 200th hike. "Alain Delon" is the self-decleared nickname of the present chairman of AhToSan.

I joined AhToSan in November of 2004. He joined the club several months later. We go hiking almost every Saturday. Frequency of participation is almost same. So, it was the 221st hike for me.

One of earnest members, Garyongbong is the owner of several bakeries. He made a special cake when they cerebrated my 200th hike. This time, he also made a very special cake with the letter of 200th. Alain Delon looked very happy with the cake.

After leving Beomosa, we had “Suzuki Time” at around 10:30 a.m. Now I prepared two bottles of chectnut-makgeolli and two packs of light green grapes and grape tomatoes. I also brought a set of plastic glasses which were useful to share makgeolli.

Then after walking 30 minutes since “Suzuki Time” we came to the ridge trail. The mountain is close to the city of Pusan, so we could see the high rising apartment houses, and a reservoir for clean water for the citizens.

[The view of Pusan from the ridge,

The we could see a tower like rock with spiral stairs. It was Godanbong, the highest peak in Geumjeongsan.

[A view from the ridge,

When I climbed the peak of the mountain, I felt so good and all feeling of weariness had gone. But it was very windy and it was very cold there.
We went over Godanbong and came to the North Gate. It was a rebuilt watchtower of the fortress.

We walked along the rebuilt walls of the fortress. Then we came to the 2nd peak named Wuonyobong.

We had lunch along the trail beween the 2nd and 3rd peak (Uisabong).
I felt very cold because of the strong wind. I would appreciate it if someone cooked spicy ramen. But Alain Delon did not allow us to use gas-burners. He was afraid of causing bush-fire, and I thought his judgement was correct. Anyway, we enjoyed our lunch without ramen.

To my surprise, Sam used chopsticks very well. He tried any food his fellow hikers offered. He even enjoyed spicy food like kimchi.
After the lunch, we kept walking along the walls of the fortress and watchtowers.
Then we saw a man riding a horse. He was a bushfire surveillance agent. He was a kind officer who allowed us to ride on his horse.

[A member on the horse,

The horse was also gentle. Sam said he had horse-riding experience. So he know how to treat horses. He pet the face of the horce and the liked it well.

Some members rode on the horse by turn, and others fed the horse with apple.
After seeing the agent with horse, we kept hiking two more peaks. They were Ssanggebong and Paribong.

It was a bit behind the schedule, and everyone hurried to the destination, but me. I could not walk fast and left behind the other members.

The 7 hour hike ended at 4:30 p.m. I was one of the last members to finish the hike.
The tippuri was “sashimi” and “meuntang” a spicy fish soup.

[We had "sashimi" and spicy "meuntang" after the hike,

We finished the party at 5 p.m. and came back to Daejeon at around 9 p.m.
It was my 56th hike for this year and 221st time with AhToSan in total.

[In front of Bamboo bush in the temple ground,

[Green grape and grape tomatoes for Suzuki Time,スズキタイムの青葡萄とミニトマト、스즈키타임의 청포도와 방울토마토 ]

[At the top of Godanbong、

[Sam petting the horse,

[We had "sashimi" and spicy "meuntang" after the hike,
