[A group picture before hiking, 登山前の団体写真、등산전의 단체사진]Typhoon #14 once headed for Korean Peninsula, redirected toward Japanese archipelago, so we could enjoy hiking here.
I climbed Gayanan with AhToSan on Nov. 19, 2005. I was working at ETRI at that time, and Ms. Nari Oh joined this hike with me. But this time, we walked the newly opened the trail after being closed for 35 years!
Since the mountain is famous for autumn color, and the trail was very popular, heavy congestion was forcasted. So, AhToSan staff members decided to leave Daejeon 2 hours earlier than usual, which means at 5 a.m. All foreingers gave up this hike, but the chartered bus was completely full. The spirits of Korean hikers are high!
I wake up at 3 a.m. and cooked rice and prepared for the hike.
It was a cold day. It seems that the winter hike has begun already.
My condition was not great, yet I could managed to walk in the middle. Though I could never catch up with the top group, but I was not in the last group of the hikers.
We bagan hiking at 7:30 a.m. Until the lunch time, a man who usually reads books on the bus, accompanied with me.

[At SangWangBong (Mt. Gayasan), 上王峰(伽倻山の主峰)にて、상왕봉(가야산의 주봉)에서] After the lunch, a lady whose nickname is “Angel Park” walked with me. It is good to have someone with you so that you can get your pictures by your partner.

But after the beautiful temple, “Haeinsa,” I was completely left alone. I was not sure where the bus was. So, I called one of the staff members. She told me where the bus was.
We waited for the last person to be back to the bus. Then we moved to a good place for Tippuri Party.
Tippuri menue: yukgaejang, hot spicy meat stew, and soju.

Nearby the Tippuri spot, the local women were selling local products. One of them was selling something sound “Police” in Korean. I consulted my dictionally and it is “Akigumi” in Japanese. According to Wikipedia, its English name is “elaeagnus umbellate” or (autumn olive.) The woman said it good for your health, and it cost only 2000 won. So I bought them.
The bus stopped at apple peddler on the way back to Daejeon. Some of AhToSan members bought big apples from the peddler. When the bus arrived at Expo Parking Lot at Daejeon, “Park Angel” who walked with me in the latter half of the hike, gave me 5 big apples which she bought from the peddler. How sweet of her!
This was my 51st hike for this year, and my 217th hike with AhToSan in total.

[A group picture before hiking, 登山前の団体写真、등산전의 단체사진]台風14号が日本列島の方へ行き、関東地方が暴風雨。しかし韓半島は台風の影響はない。
本日の山行地の伽倻山は2005年11月19日に当時勤めていたETRIの職員、オナリと参加して以来二度目だが、ルートは35年ぶりに閉鎖が解かれたというルート。
紅葉の時期でもあり、多くの人出で渋滞の恐れがあったため、近場にもかかわらず出発を2時間も前倒し、南門を5時に出発した。
それでも44人満席で、韓国のハイカーたちはすごい。ベルナルドら外国人はみなあきらめて、私だけが参加した。
3時に起床して飯を炊き、弁当を用意して出発した。
韓国の山は今週から実に冬山登山の気配。登山地では最初から最後まで(ごく一部区間を除き、)上着を脱ぐことはなかった。
体調はいまいちで、登りの時に息が切れるのは相変わらず。だが、風景の素晴らしさのためか、主要カメラマンの三人(アランドロン、スーパーマン、金剛)は常に私より後ろで美女たちのポートレートを撮りまくっていたようだ。
私はといえば、先頭グループからはかなり遅れ、それでも最後尾グループよりは前を終始歩いた。

[At SangWangBong (Mt. Gayasan), 上王峰(伽倻山の主峰)にて、상왕봉(가야산의 주봉)에서] 前半同行したのはいつも一人でコンスタントに歩く読書家の男性。後半はたしか「パクチョンサ」というニックネームのややふくよかな女性と海印寺の化粧室まで同行した。

今回は苦しかったとはいえ、最後尾グループに属することなく終始中間として歩いた。
渓谷に出てから海印寺にでるまでの道はずっとパクチョンサと同行。前後に新会員がいたが、人見知りしてあまり話さなかった。
[Haeinsa Temple, 海印寺、해인사]最後にバスをさがす段になって完全に一人になり、博物館を過ぎたところで心配になり、総務のチョンジョンに電話した。モッチョンが適切なアドバイスを日本語でしてくれて、博物館を過ぎてから一般道路を右にゆるく上ったところの駐車場がわかった。
ティップリは場所を移して、慶尚北道の大きな石の碑がある場所であつあつのユッケジャンだった。ただ、飲み物は焼酎だけで、物足らなかった。
初めて参加した1948年生まれの정하범氏が話しかけてきた。一期一会の人となるか、今後交際するかは彼次第だ。
[With a man of my generation, 同世代の鄭さんと、동새대의 정하범씨와 함께]ティップリの近くで野菜などを売っていたアジュンマから「ポリス(보리수)」を2000ウォン買った。辞書を引くと「菩提樹」と「アキグミ」があった。当然これは後者。ほろ苦い味がする。

ティップリは4時半ごろまでで切り上げ、南門には7時半ごろ戻った。途中、バスは露店のりんご売りの前で止まり、多くの会員がりんごを買っていた。
私はそのおこぼれにあずかり、南門で別れるときにパクチョンサから特大りんご4個もらった。
