121110 WolChulSan (月出山월출산809m), YongAm(霊岩영암), JeonNam(全南전남)

Hiking Date:Nov. 10, 2012 (Sat) Cloudy

Destination (mountain): WolChulSan (809m)

Hiking course: CheonHwangSa – Gureum Bridge – CheonHwangBong (809m) - Baramjae – GuJeongBong (711m) – Silver Grass Field – Dogap Valley – Dogapsa Temple

Partner: 44 AhToSan members

Since the destination was far from Daejeon, we left South Gate at 6 am.

WolChulSan was my first hike with AhToSan in November 2004. Since then, this hike was my 4th hike to this mountain.

So, I knew the course well, yet it was always hard for me to reach up to CheonHwangBong.

[A group picture at the entrance of the trail,

I was already the last hiker when I arrived at the famous “Bridge of Cloud.” Yet I caught with some of the members who were taking pictures there.

The trail from the bridge to the first peak before CheonHwang was made by steel steps and very narrow and steep. Therefore it was a kind of traffic jam or hold-up and I could walk very slowly.

Since there were almost no hikers who came down the steps, some of AhToSan members climbed the steps rapidly on the wrong side (left side) and I followed them.

When we came up to the first peak, we took a short rest and I offered my fruits for other members.

[Short break "Suzuki Time" on the rock,

Then a member took a bottle of makgeolli from his bag and I also offered pettitoes which I bought previous night.

After having a short rest, we went down to the valley, then went up to the ridge. After having steep up and down twice, I arrived at CheonHwangBong, the highest peak in Mt. WolChulSan.

[A view from the trail on the ridge,

There was a wide space on the top of the mountain, but there were also many hikers there. I gave up to take my self picture at the big stone monument and joined AhToSan members to have lunch there.

[Lunch at the top of CheonHwangBong,

It was a cloudy day and very storng wind. So I felt almost winter esp. on the ridge.

After lunch, I hurried to the next peak. Many AhToSan members came after me and went ahead of me.

When I arrived at the next peak called GuJeongBong, I was alone again. But I met the fast hikers came down from the 2nd peak. I quit going to the 2nd peak, and took a short rest with them.

Then we went on the ridge walking in the strong wind. The area is called “Baramjae”which means “Windy Pass.”

After passing “Baramjae” I came to the area with a lot of silver grasses. I rember these area when I came last time. I was with other AhToSan members when I came last time, but this time, I was alone.

So, I hurried to the final destination. When I came down to the Dogap Valley, I saw some AhToSan members taking rest while drinking beer. So I joined them.

[I caught up with AhToSan members in the valley,

Then it began raining. The autumnal color in the valley was beautiful, but we hurried to the final destination because of rain.

[I arrived at DoGapSa around 4 pm, 4

Fortunately, it did not rain hard. Whe I arrived at the parking lot, it was 4:30. I was the 2nd from the last hiker.

We had a wrap-up party until 5 pm and went back to Daejeon at 9 pm.

It was my 57th hike for this year and my 295th AhToSan regular hike.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

["Gureum Bridge" or "Bridge of Cloud", 『

[Short break "Suzuki Time" on the rock,

[A group picture at the stone monument, 『

[At the top of CheonHwangSan,『

[Lunch at the top of CheonHwangBong,

[At the trail on the ridge to GuJeongBong,

[I met some members near GuJeongBong,

[I caught up with AhToSan members in the valley,

[I arrived at DoGapSa around 4 pm, 4

[The president of AhToSan called me at the bus,

[We had a simple wrap-up party with pig trotters and makgeolli,
