DR #196 “My Last Spring in Daejeon”

This is my 11th spring since I came to Daejeon in 2003. I quitted my job in Japan and got a job as “Invited Researcher” at ETRI from May 2003 to March 2006.

I lived in a dormitory of ETRI these days, then I moved to a studio apartment in Shinseongdong, about 3 km away from the dormitory in April 2006.

I began teaching Japanese at Daedeok College in March 2007. This is the 7th year since I began teaching Japanese and this is going to be the last year, since the school changed its curriculum.

The teaching hours became less by less since 3 years ago. I teach only 8 hours a week this year. Since my income is paid by hour-basis, all I get is about less than half of what I need to live here now. So, it is about the time to leave Korea and go back to Japan, I think.

But on the other hand, I enjoy my free time.

I have been listening to educational programs on radio since I came to Korea 11 years ago.

The equivalence of NHK #2 in Japan is EBS in Korea. EBS stands for Education Broadcast Station.

Now I listen to the following programs from Monday through Saturday.

5:00-5:10 Pocket Chinese

5:10-5:30 Japanese (Primary/Advanced)

5:30-5:50 Chinese (Primary/Advanced)

5:50-6:00 Pocket English

6:00-6:20 TOEIC

6:20-6:40 Easy Writing (English)

6:40-7:00 Listening Comprehension (English)

I usually get up at 4 am. Study One-Year-Bible in Japanese and Korean while checking my sugar rate in my blood and checking my blood-presser level.

Then I cook/prepare my meals and have breakfast while listening to the radio. Then I go out to walk in the woods on the nearby mountain (small hill). It usually takes 90 minutes to walk 4 km and do 4 different kind of muscle training (sit-up, push-up, chin-up and air-walk).

I think these everyday training is helpful for me to go hiking with AhToSan hiking club every Saturday.

Since this is the last year to enjoy my life in Korea, I especially adore the beautiful nature I enjoy every day.

This spring, I took pictures of cherry blossoms and forsythia along the river of my daily exercise as well as on the campus nearby university (KAIST).

DR 196号「大田最後の春」

日本での仕事を止め、ETRIの招聘研究員として大田へ来たのは2003年5月である。今年で11年目になる。

ETRIの契約が終わったのは2006年3月で、以来、ETRIの寄宿舎を出て新城洞のワンルームに住んで7年になる。

2007年3月から大徳大学の精密機械システム科で「技術日本語」を教えるようになって今年で7年目だが、精密機械システム科が昨年から精密機械工学科になり、「技術日本語」の授業も今年が最後である。

現在のビザは来年3月で切れるが、更新はなさそうである。ということは今年が大田で暮らす最後の年になりそうだ。

そう思うと季節の変化の１つ１つがいとおしい。

EBSラジオ(日本のNHK第2放送にあたる)を利用して韓国語、中国語、英語を学んでいるが、今年の改編で、最後の年の放送は下記のものを選んだ。(早朝の2時間である。)

5:00-5:10 ポケット中国語(今年から)

5:10-5:30 日本語初級及び中級(2004年から)

5:30-5:50 中国語初級及び中級(2004年から)

5:50-6:00 ポケット英語(今年から)

6:00-6:20 TOEIC攻略法(今年から)

6:20-6:40 Easy Writing(今年から)

6:40-7:00 耳が開く英語(昨年から)

3月からほぼ毎日4時に起床し、One Year Bible(聖書通読)のスケジュールに従って日本語と韓国語の聖書を聞くことから毎日の日課が始まる。

5時の放送開始時には毎日韓国の国歌である「愛国歌」が流れる。これはメロディーも詩もすばらしくすっかり気に入った。

そして最初の2つの番組を聞きながら朝食を準備し、食べ、3つ目の中国の放送をMP3で聴きながら、裏山に登る。残りの番組は裏山散歩及び筋トレをしながら聞き、90分後の7時にはワンルームに戻る。

これは唯一、朝9時からの授業のある金曜日も実行している。土曜日はアトサンの登山のため実施せず、日曜日は放送もないので休むことが多い。 3月いっぱいは5時半は暗いのでヘッドライトをつけて山に登った。 4月からはヘッドライトが不要で、朝の涼しさが心地よい。

4月にはテジョンハイカーズで何度もハイキングを共にした三木さんが日本へ帰国するため、水曜夜のスタムティッシュの集まりに、リーダーのジョンムと共に来た。

この日は日本語を熱心に勉強している屯山警察の閔(ミン)さんも勉強仲間の女性を連れて参加した。

日本へ帰るとこのようなミーティングが無くなるのも寂しい。

私の知る限りでは、大田ではKAISTと貨幣博物館前の炭洞川のほとりの桜がすばらしい。
