Partner: Mr. Matsumoto

It was a cold stay at the lodge, but we survived anyway. The host, Mr. Tadaki prepared a set of breakfast for Mr. Matsumoto, while I cooked my brown rice porridge using the stove.

[Breakfast for Mr. Matsumoto,

[Since I was instructed to eat a day portion of "brown rice porridge" into 5 times, each time, I had to eat one fifth of a day portion. ]

It was a fine weather in the morning, and we could see Mt. Fuji clearly from the pass.

[The summit of Mt. Fuji,

I tried to take portraits with Mt. Fuji, but with my Samsung Dedital Camera, I could not take the portraits with Mt. Fuji.

Mr. Tadaki, the host of the lodge seems a nice photographer since he took many nice pictures such as fox and “Ten貂" or "Japanese marten."

After having breakfast, we began climbing the mountain.

The trails from the lodge to Daibosatsurei were completely covered with snow and the snow was completely frozen.

[George on the way to the ridge,

Since we put crampons under the boots, it was rather easy to walk on frozen snow. So, we walked toward the ridges and went forward to the peak of the mountain.

[A view on the way, 上りの登山路から見た風景、오르막 등산로에서 본 풍경]

We arrived at Daibosatsurei, the peak of the mountain at 9:17. There was a wooden monument, but it was surrounded by trees. So we could not enjoy nice views at all.

When we walked more toward Daibosatsu Pass, we came out to the clear ridges from which we had a marvelous views of Mt. Fuji and Kofu Basin.

The trails on the ridges from Daibosatsurei to Daibosatsu were the highlight of this hiking. We could enjoy the magnificient views of the surrounding mountains as well as Mt. Fuji and Kofu Basin. The contrast of the blue sky and the white snow was beautiful.

We arrived at “Kaizanso” lodge on Daibosatsu Pass at 10:17. “Kaizanso” was bigger and well facilitated lodge than “Marukawaso” but it was closed these days.

[George at Daibosatsu Pass,

We took a short break outside of “Kaizansho,” then took several pictures at the monument of the pass.

We began descending at 10:27 from the pass.

There was much snow along the descending trail. Soon after we began descending, we saw several workers with a loading shovel machine. They were working to get rid of snow from the trails.

[We saw a loading shovel,

Since it was Saturday, we saw many hikers coming up from the foot of the mountain.

When we came down to “Fujimisanso” lodge, it was 11:15. The lodge was still covered much much snow.

[Fujimi Lodge,

We came out to the paved road at 11:35, then we walked along the paved road for a while.

But it seemed much longer than the trail for the hikers. So, we resumed to walk along the trail.

At around noon, I asked Mr. Matsumoto to use the gas burner to cook brown rice porridge.

[Cooking "brown rice porridge",

I saw yellow flowers of “Lindera obtusiloba” (“Dankobaiダンコウバイ檀香梅” in Japanese and “Saenggangnamu생강나무” in Korean.)

[“Lindera obtusiloba”,

I saw this flowers in Korea a lot. So, it reminded me of Korean spring.

We arrived at the bus-stop at around 2 pm. Then we took a bus to the next stop and took a hot spring there.

It was “Daibosatunoyu” Hot Spring. It was the hot spring that many elderly people enjoy. It was a kind of “Super Sento” with the real source of hot spring.

After enjoying the hot spring, I made “brown rice porridge” again with hot water I got from the restaurant there.

We took a bus from the hot spring to Enzan Station after 3 pm. Then took Limited Express from Enzan to Hachioji.

From Hajiochi to Yokohama, we used Yokohama Line, then came back to Ofuna after 6 pm.

It was a nice trip and hike with Mr. Matsumoto as my first hike in Japan after April 1, 2014.

[Breakfast for Mr. Matsumoto,

["Kaizanso" Lodge,

[Mr. Matsumoto at Daibosatsu Pass,

[We saw a loading shovel,

[Cooking "brown rice porridge",

[“Lindera obtusiloba”,
