110508 Shine of Tai Gogon Wan and Museum of Ancient Chinese Chariots

[Sightseeing, China, Taian→Zibo→Qingdao]

Date: May 8, 2011 (Sun) Rain then cloudy

Itinerary: Taishan International Hotel – Shrine of "Tai Gong Wang - Zibo" - Museum of Ancient Chinese Chariots → Quingdao

Partner: 30 Koreans and two Chinese guides and Mr. Matsumoto (& a guide)

It was raining with thunder in the morning. I felt a bit disappointment because it was a day for hiking another mountain, Mt. Laoshan, but it’s in the afternoon. We had sightseeing until noon.

After having breakfast at 6:45, we left the hotel at 7:30 a.m. First, we headed for the shrine of “Tai Gong Wang.”

“Tai Gong Wang” is not a real name. His real name was Jiang Ziya (Chinese: 姜子牙, Pinyin: Jiāng Zǐyá, Wade-Giles: Chiang Tzu-ya.

It is said that when Jiang Ziya was jobless and fishing in the river, King Wen of Zhou (Chinese: 周文王; pinyin: Zhōu Wén Wáng) found him and hired him as military advisor, saying “You are the one my grandfather wanted me to hire”which “Tai Gong Wang”meant.

Jang turned out to be the excellent military advisor and assisted King Wen and his son, King Wu very well. Later, he became one of the most successful Priministers of Zhōu.

There are as many as 103 different sir names came after Jiang Ziya. The 13 Korean President, Roh Tae-woo visited this shrine during his term (1988–1993.) Many of AhToSan members checked their own sir names by reading the explanation of each sir name hanging on the wall.

The next singhtseeing place was “Zibo Museum of Ancient Chinese Chariots.” This museum is located just next to a highway which connects Jinan and Qingdao. Acturally, they discovered a lot of chariots and horses (bones) which had been buried for more than 2000 years when they were constructing this highway in 1990.

During the long period of Chinese history, “The Warring State Period(403 BCE)” came after “Spring and Autumn Period(771-403 BCE).”So, the exibitions are things of more than 2000 years old. That’s indeed, impressive!

There are many exibitions of “viecles” and “chariots” mostly pulled by horses, but some of them were pulled by elephants and camels, which show how international China was then (more than 2000 years ago!)

I was especially impressed when I saw the exhibition of chariots and horses in the state that they found in 1990.

It rained outside, but most of sightseeing were indoor, so we could enjoy this itinerary very much.

After visiting this museum, we moved to Qingdao, then we had lunch at a restaurant, then, we climbed Mt. Laoshan in the afternoon.
