110504 Busan Sightseeing (釜山の観光)

Travel Date: May 4 (Wed) 2011

Place: Busan

Sightseeing course: (1) Daejongdae Course, (2) Hae-undae Course

Partner: Mr. Matsumoto

My Japanese hiking pal, Mr. Matsumoto, decided to join AhToSan to go trekking in China. The trip to China is from May 5 to 10, 5 stays and 6 days. So, I went to Busan to see him at the port on May 4.

I ate the last portion of left-over “sujebi”from the last hike on May 1 as my breakfast, then hurried to the subway station by taxi. I arrived at the station at 5:05 however, the first subway started at 5:30 and arrived at Daejeon Station at 5:50.

The KTX train for Busan left at 6:31 and arrived at Busan at 8:16 (7 minutes delay, but they do not care at all! No announcement for the delay, and no apology! Quite different from Japanese railway service.) Anyway, I hurried to the Busan International Terminal and arrived at the harbor at around 8:30.

Mr. Matsumoto was waiting for me at the loby on the 1st floor. Then we walked to Busan Station slowly. He had a big bag, and several small bags with him.

We put our bags into the coin locker, and took City Tour in Busan. There are 3 courses available for a day. 1) Daejongdae Course, 2) Midtown Course, 3) Haeundae Course.

When I came to Busan with Alan, we took 2) and 3), so this time I chose 1) and 3). City Tour costs 10,000 won (about 800 yen) and the ticket is good for all three courses, and can use any time for the day.

The first bus was an open-air style, without roof. It was a fine day, so we could enjoy nice views from the top seats.

We got off at “75 Square” where there were well-facilitated stairs and roads for strolling to the beach. We walked along the pathways to the beach. There were dozens of big ships on the blue sea-water, and some women divers working near the shore.

Then we rode on the next bus and went to “Daejongdae.” “Daejongdae” was named after King Taejong Muyeol (602 – 661) who won the war against Baekjae ((Hangul: 백제; Hanja: 百濟, Korean pronunciation: [pɛk̚tɕ͈e]) (18 BCE – 660 CE) and Yamato (Japan) with the help of Tang Dynasty (China: 618–907).

We took much time of sightseeing in Busan here. It used to be an island called “Yeongdo”but, now it is connected with two big bridges with Busan. It is the southern tip of the peninsula, and the part of Busan Bay. The scenery of the sea, and seashores were very beautiful, esp. because it was a fine day.

We walked around the island (about 5 km) and it took us for an hour. We fully enjoyed the stroke-trekking around the island, so after the walk, we just returned to the station.

We could use of our one-day ticket, without paying extra money. So, we took the another sightseeing bus of “HaeUnDae Course” and this time we did not get off at all, but just enjoyed seeing the scenary from the window.

We took 4:30 pm KTX and went to Daejeon. We arrived at my studio apartment at 6 p.m., then we went to the public bath house. There, both of us had “Ttemili (a body-scrubber) Service.” It costs 11,000 won (about 850 yen). It was his first experience. I use this service usually once a week.

I went Stammtisch to see my foreign friends in Daejeon, while Mr. Matsumoto waited for me at my room. We enjoyed “Asahi beer” after the meeting at my room. This was the pre-China Trip party with Mr. Matsumoto.
