130214 The 9th day of US Trip: Mercer Island and Seattle Market

Date: Feb. 14 (Thu) Little rain, then cloudy

Sightseeing Place: Mercer Islands and Seattle Market

Partners: Chris’ friend and Haejung/Chris

Chris went out to work at 6:30 am. Chris’ neighbor and his mother’s good friend, Lady A took me to the tour of Mercer Island and Seattle. Haejeong, his wife accompanied with us until Chris took over their role in the afternoon.

Lady A, a neighbor and Chris’s mother’s good friend came to Chris’ parents house at 9:30. Chris had asked her to take me around Seattle on behalf of him.

Lady A and her husband had been in London for 4 years, and returned to Mercer Island only recently.

She drove a red car. Lady A and Haejeong took us to a park (Vulunteer Park?) with a lot of plants and greenhouse. There was a castle-like building in the park.

Then, they took me to Hiran M. Chittenden Locks, Lake Washington Ship Canal.

Soon after passing the entrance of this facility, there was an educational hall, where we could see video to learn the history of the ship canal, etc. So we saw this orientation-video.

When we visit the canal, one pleasure boat was in the process to go into the lake. So, we stopped for a while to see the boat was locked, then the water level became high, then they opened the gate for the boat.

After seeing the boat, shifted and leased, we walked to the “ladders for fish.” Since it was not the season for salmons to come, we could not see any fish in the window.

We had lunch at the cafe named “Lockspot Café” and Lady A and I had salmon chowder combo, while Haejeong ordered “fish & chips.”

After the lunch, Lady A took me to the several view points of Mercer Island from where we could see Seattle skyline well.

Then we went to downtown Seattle. She parked her car near the corner where Chris work. Until Chris finished his work, they took me to the market tour.

Chris came out from his office at 2 pm and took over the guide of the market.

The market place is always interesting for me. We walked through the market and walked along the harbor. Then came back to the market.

We went back to Mercer Island and Chris’ parents’ home by using the public transportation just like the previous day.

That evening, Lady A and her husband invited us for their house party.

Their house is only 5 minute walk distance from Chris’ house.

I was surprised at the size of the house. Their kids were already grown up and they are living only by themselves, there were nearly 10 bed rooms!

We had a nice dinner at the living room. Later, their daughter came with her pet dog.

Mr. A was working at the embassy in London for 4 years, and Mrs. A has her won profession. She is from Netherlands and had an experience of living in Alaska. Their son has a twin babies who were a boy and a girl.

I was just amazed the richness of their house and life style. I had a great honor of having such a guide for me.

[At the fish ladder,

[Salmon chowder combo,

[Below are the pictures at the market,

[With Chris and his neighbors,

[Their daughter's friendly dog,
