110702 Mt.

Hiking Date: July 2 (Sat) 2011, Cloudy

Destination (mountain): Mt. Jungwon (800m), Yangpyong, Gyeonggi-do

Hiking course: Shinjeomri – Yongjongbong – Shinseongbong – Jungwon Valley – Jungwon Waterfall – Jungwon 2ri (14km)

Partner: 31 + 3 from Seoul

The destination was Mt. Jungwonsan in Yangpyong, Gyeonggi-do. Chinhangsaram and Purim and Cris came from Seoul and joined us at Shinjeomri. Cris and I were only foreigners (non-Koreans) among 35 members.

Chongjong was celebrated by AhToSan for her 200th participation of AhToSan regular hiking. She is the 3rd member who reached the 200th among more than 1000 AhToSan members.

[The three members from Seoul joined us,ソウルから別途来た三人が現地で合流した。

“Lion” and “MacDonald” joined us after a long absence (a couple of years.)

This was the first hike planded by “Yoyu.” So he explained the hiking course on the bus.

[A kind of lily, Lilium medeoloides or a morningstar lily、

However, he could not lead us to the right direction which he planned. He took us to the neighboring mountain called “Yongjongbong”(a part of Jungwonsan, anyway) and we could not go to Mt. Jungwonsan.

[During a short stop and rest, 途中で少し休憩、도중에 조금 휴식]

The trail from Shinjeomri to Yongjongbong was steep and rocky, therefore it was a bit hard course. I climbed the rocks using both hands, mostly with Cris.

[Cris climbing the up-trail,

We all reached at the top of Yongjongbong at noon. There was a sign written in Hangul, but “Alain Delon” told me the meaning of each letter: “Yong”is Dragon (龍), “Jong”is Heel (踵), “Bong” is Peak(峰). I admire him for his knowledge about Chinese characters.

After having lunch,“Yoyu”explained the change of the course, then I started with the members of the top group. Cris was also in the top group. While climbing the long slope, Cris and I were alone, apart from other Korean hikers.

When we were walking on the ridge, I slipped a littel, and about to fall into the cliff, Cris sceemed a bit, but fortunately I could stay on the ridge. I realized that I was always at the risk of accident, and I became more careful for the rest of the hike.

It seemed that Cris and I were beteen the top and 2nd group of AhToSan. When we were having difficulty to go down through the rocky valley, the people of the 2nd group caught up with us.

[The 2nd Group caught up with us, 第二グループが我々に追いついた。

At the bottom of the valley, I saw several remains of furnaces which were used to make charcoals some decades ago.

Then we came to the river, and a big waterfall named “Jungwon Waterfall.”There were many sightseers, not hikers, enjoying water-play (jumping into the water).

[At Jungwon Waterfall,

We did not jump into the waterfall, but we did jump into the river in the downstream.

Cris also jumped into the water and enjoyed the bathing with “Ttowa” and “Chomwa” the young couple.

After enjoying the bathing, we soon came to the final destination: Jungwon 2ri.

When I came to the bus stop, I noticed a Japanese style house. It says “Owari Sanjan.” “Owari” is the old name of Nagoya area. It is also a sir-name in Japan.

It was a Japanese restaurant run by a Japanese couple whose name was “Owari.”

Then I noticed that “Lion” and “MacDonald”were beckoning me to join them. They were having a private small party, ordering “Pajon” and “makgeolli.” When I joined them, they introduced the owners of the restaurant, Mr. and Mrs. Owari.

I enjoyed the small party with Lion and MacDonald and their friend, first. Then I joined the big party with all AhToSan members.

We finished the wrap-up party at 5:15 p.m. Those who came from Seoul, took a public bus from there to Seoul. The rest of us came back to Daejeon at around 8 p.m.

It was my 38th hike for this year and my 246th regular hike of AhToSan as the total number.

[At the starting point,

[Along the trail,

[The up-trail was rocky and difficult,

[At the peak of Shinsonbong,

[on the ridge、稜線にて、능선에서]

[The remains of furnace for making charcoal, 昔の炭窯の跡,옛날 숯가마터][At Jungwon Waterfall, 中元滝にて、중원폭포에서]

[Cris also jumped into the river,

[Name-board of Restaurant "Owari"「

[MacDonald and Lion and Mr. Hong,

[Japanese body-armor at Owari Restaurant,

[Cheongjeong came to pick us up, チョンジョンが我々を迎えに来た、정정이 부르러 왔다.][The wrap-up party with "jokpak" or "trotters" and "makgeolli"トンソク(豚足)とマッコリの「ティップリ」、뒤풀이는 족발과 막걸이]
