Sightseeing City: Hakodate

After having breakfast, I went out to visit Morning Market. It was just in front of JR Hakodate Station. It reminded me of Korean market.

There were more sales persons than guests. When I entered the market place, several sales persons came to me to appeal their products.
The 2nd shop from the entrance was named “Naritaya.” The young guy was very good at selling his products.
He discounted the price of hairy crab. I bought one weighed 570 gram with 2500 yen. It was a good price. The sales person also sold “Mentaikou” or “seasoned cod roe” with 2000 yen. I thought it was a bit expensive. But it tasted very good.

After shopping at Morning Market, I went back to the hotel, and packed my luggage. Then went out to the town again.
I headed for “Hakodate City Museum of Northern People” first. It was about 30 minutes on foot toward Hakodateyama. There was only one visiter, me at the museum. So a gentleman at the museum came to explain the exibitions to me.

I noticed that it was not only Ainu, but several Northern tribes lived in Hokaido or Russian side of the continent or islands.
After visiting the museum for Northern People, I visited Hakodate City Museum of Literature.

One of my favorite poets, Ishikawa Takuboku lived in Hakodate for about 100 days in 1906. He got a relatively stable job as a substitute teacher at a elementary school. But when the big fire destroyed the school, he lost his job. He moved to Sapporo or Otaru in Hokkaido since then and finally he moved to Tokyo via Yokohama and died because of illness at the age of 27.
So the whole 2nd floor of the museum was concentrated on Takuboku collection, because he died in April 1912. This year happened to be just 100 years since his unseasonable death.
After visiting Hakodate City Museum of Literature, I went back to the hotel and had early lunch there.
I took 13:56 Super Tokkyu “Hakucho” and came back to Tokyo by Hayate of Tohoku Shinkansen at around 8 p.m.
It was a nice trip to Hakodate, Hokkaido.

[Hakodate City Museum of Literature,
