Destination (mountain): DongSan(東山동산886m) & JakSeongSan(鵲城山작성산848m) in Jecheong(堤川제천), Chungbuk Province

Alex came to stay at my room from Daegu. Alex originally came from Bulgaria, he used to live in Daejeon, but now he teaches mathematics in Daegu, so he stays at my room when he joins AhToSan hike.
This time, my Chinese friend, Eric and one of my Korean students, Jangsu, joined the hike, too.
We left the bus-stop at Expo South Gate at 7 pm. There were only 25 applicants, so we had plenty of vacant seats. Yet, Eric sat by me, so we could talk each other on the bus.
We arrived at Seongnaeri parking lot at 10 am. I vaguely remember this area since I climbed the same mountain before.

We took a group picture in front of the big rock on which 4 big Chinese characters were written. It was the name of this valley.

When we came to the fork in the trail, there was another big rock on which the name of the temple was written. It was an unique rock, so I remember it clearly. It was 10:50 am.

We turned right and got across the stream, then we began climbing steep trail and rocks.

Soon we came to Namgeunseok which means “Penis Rock.” It did look like a huge “Penis.”

Korean people, both men and women, like this kind of natural formation very much. We took pictures with this huge “Penis.”

There was a little space to take a rest, so we had “Suzuki Time” here. I offered fruits, and some other members offered “makgeolli.”This time, we had a good cook with her homemade “Kimchi-jeon.”So, I offered “Asahi Super Dry” as well. We shared it, and then continued climbing steep trail and rocks.
One of good hikers, “Ruchi” had a charley horse in his leg. The president of AhToSan tried to help him, stretching his leg, or pressing some part of his leg. But Ruchi gave up walking full course, and he took a short cut to the destination.

We walked more on the up-and-down ridge for about one hour, then caught up with the faster hikers group, having lunch in the woods.
Eunchongpa, a strong hiker brought a burner and frying pan and cooked pork. We ate the pork wrapped withvegetable. It tasted very good.

After lunch, we continued a ridge hike which was relatively easy. We arrived at the peak of DongSan (886m) at 1:35 pm.
After DongSan, it was a downhill trail for about 30 minutes and we arrived at Saemokjae. We separated ourselves into two groups; one headed to JakSeongSan, and the other, not going to JakSeongSan, but just going down.

My group (two foreigners and my student) took the easier one, and we began descending the mountain.

We walked along the river and then we met Ruchi, we took a short-cup because of his cramped foot problem.

We all together came down to Muamsa temple. Since we did not go to JankSeongSan, we had more time than those who went, so we visited the temple and enjoyed a little sightseeing of the temple.

From the temple to the parking lot, it was a paved road, but quite a distance. It took us nearly one hour to return to the parking lot.

We (Suzuki group) joined the first group of the hikers and began wrap-up party with them. The manu were; “odeng” and “kimchi pokkum”and makgeolli and soju. I enjoyed the taste of makgeolli.

We finished the party at around 4:50 pm and we came back to Daejeon at around 8 pm.
On the way back to Daejeon, we stopped at GeumWolBong Service Area. We enjoyed taking pictures at this interesting rocky place, then went back to Daejeon.

Alex had to go back to Daegu, so it might be later than 10 pm when he arrived at Daegu.
It was my 18th hike for this year and my 311th regular hike with AhToSan.

今回は登山地が比較的近いので通常の南門7時出発。大邱在住のブルガリア人アレックスは私のワンルームに前泊。

4時半に起床、EBSを録音しながら出発準備。アレックスと前日買っておいたキムパプとカップラーメンの朝食を済ませ6時にワンルームを出た。
606番バスを待っている間に帽子を忘れたことに気づき、ワンルームへ引き返したため、6:15のバスを逃し、6:35のバスで南門へ向かった。
ちょうどアトサンの南門バス停に6:50に到着。すぐにエリックと大徳大学3年の優等生、朴壮洙が合流した。
壮洙は登山服と登山靴がそろっていたが警察官の兄のものを借りたそうだ。
参加者は25名ほどでバスの座席は余裕があったが、私のとなりにはエリックが座った。
目的地の堤川の城内里(ソンネリ)駐車場には10時に到着した。
城内里からゆるやかな登りの舗装道路を山に向かって進んで「霧岩渓谷」と大書した岩の前で集合写真を撮ってから霧岩寺に向かってさらに舗装道路を進んだ。

「千年古刹霧岩寺」という石碑は見覚えがある。ここに着いたのは10:50でここから山道に入る。

谷川を超えるとすぐきつい上りで、最初のポイントは「男根石」。この石に至る直前の崖は立派な木の階段道が整備されていた。

男根石の下がやや広く、アトサンの会員も多かったのでマッコリとフルーツの「スズキタイム」にした。 今回はヨレジさんがいたため、つまみにキムチジョンがあり、マッコリがうまい。アサヒスーパードライも空けて一口づつ分け合った。
男根石をすぎてもしばらく岩登りが続き、油断はならない。途中、ルチの足が攣ったようで、アランドロンが足を引っ張ったりしていたが、彼は山頂はあきらめた。

ルチは渓谷コースを一人で歩いたようで、我々が午後、セモクジェから下る途中で彼に会った。
けわしい尾根歩きをさらに1時間ほど続けて12時半ごろ、ややひらけた林の中で昼食をとっている先発組に追いついた。

今回は銀銃波が焼肉(三枚肉)を焼いて皆に振る舞った。山で食べる焼肉は最高である。

昼食後の尾根歩きは比較的楽なコースで、東山山頂には1時35分に到着した。

東山からセモクジェまでは30分ほどの下りでここで中間グループに合流したが、さらに鵲城山へ向かうグループと下山するグループに分かれた。

我々鈴木グループ(外国人＋壮洙)は下山するグループに入り、途中でルチに出会った。

霧岩寺についたのは3時ごろで、寺を見学してからバス停に向かった。

寺の下の岩の割れ目に泉があり、薬水場(ヤクスト)になっていて、飲み水を汲んだ。

また寺の下には桜草の花壇があり、スズキグループとルチで写真を撮った。
霧岩寺から駐車場までは舗装道路だが、距離がかなりあり、小一時間かかった。

バスに到着したのはほぼ4時だったが、鵲城山へ向かったグループがまだ戻っておらず、ピアノマンら本当の先頭グループと一足先に打ち上げを楽しんだ。
今回の担当はヨレジとKSだったようで、あつあつのおでんとキムチポックムはうまかった。

のみものはトンドンジュと焼酎で、わたしはトンドンジュをもらった。
ティップリは4時50分ごろきりあげ、途中、クムウォルボン休憩所で写真休憩をとり、大田へ戻ったのは8時過ぎだった。

アレックスは堤川から直接大邱へ向かうことはせず、大田ICまで戻ってから大邱へ向かったので家に着くのは10時過ぎだろう。
今回の登山は今年18回目で、アトサン通算の定期登山参加回数は311回目である。
